Overall experience felt rushed. They only had one sake available and no pairing with the omakasa. Very unusual. The food was ok for the price but I would pay more and get a better experience. Best thing about the restaurant is the roof terrace and you get good sushi rolls out there.

We're sorry your visit felt rushed and that our sake selection and omakase pairing did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your honest thoughts about the value of the meal. Thank you for calling out the roof terrace and the sushi rolls — we're glad you enjoyed those. We appreciate the feedback and hope you might return.

The food was amazing. I originally signed up to do the $70 omakase course, but because the other people signed up were doing the $100 course, I was asked if I wanted to upgrade. I said sure. I did order a drink that I never received, even after following up about it. Additionally, I felt like the omakase chef was trying to get more money out of us. The group that was doing the experience was quite young. He kept trying to give us bottles of water instead of using one of the four carafes filled with tap water next to him. The bartender stepped in and was confused to see this happening. He also pressured us to leave a 5 star review online in exchange for a glass of sake. I didn’t want more sake, and he kept pressuring me to review. I said no, I am ready for my bill. Overall, a fine cheaper-end omakase experience. I don’t think I’d go back, I’d rather pay more for a better experience somewhere else. Great for a first timer or if you’re staying in the hotel and want to try something new.

Started late so too many courses in too little time. Chefs good but other servers very poor.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. We are glad the chefs impressed you, and we are very sorry that a late start and rushed pacing made the courses feel crowded. We regret that service from the floor did not meet expectations. If you would like to share more details, please reply here so we can better understand your visit.

Will and Alexis made this a memorable amazing experience for me hosting my friends out of town. It was my visitors’ first time eating omakase and they made it special when they were working solo in their department tonight.

FAQs

Yes, there is rooftop seating and a lounge area with views. Guests frequently enjoy pre- and post-omakase drinks on the rooftop terrace with sights of the Capitol and Washington Monument. The rooftop can be a highlight for good weather, though some guests noted the space can be exposed (watch for seasonal conditions).

Yes, families do visit and guests sometimes celebrate birthdays with children, but it’s primarily an adult-focused omakase bar. The tasting is best for older children or teens who can sit through a paced counter service. If you’re bringing younger kids, consider an early seating and call ahead to discuss suitability and any menu flexibility.

Early evening seats (the 5pm seating) are popular, guests often recommend the 5pm slot for a relaxed vibe, daylight rooftop views, and fewer crowds. Weeknights can feel lively but less crowded than weekend peak times; if you prefer a quieter experience, try a weekday or an early seating. Book ahead, since timed omakase slots are in demand.

Smart casual is recommended. The restaurant lists a smart-casual dress code and guests typically dress up for date nights and celebrations. You’ll fit in wearing polished casual attire, nothing overly formal is required, but many guests treat it as a night-out spot.

Portions are intentionally bite-sized, this is an omakase tasting experience. Guests frequently note the 12-course or 17-course formats deliver small, carefully crafted pieces (nigiri-style) rather than large plates, so many people order an extra roll or hand roll afterward if still hungry. If you want a fuller meal, consider ordering boulicious extras like hand rolls, uni, or the Toro Negi handroll.

Yes, Sushi By Bou is a multi-location concept with other outposts (guests reference other Bou locations). Many guests compare their DC experience to Bou locations in cities like New York and Fort Lauderdale and note consistent omakase-style offerings across sites.

Vibrant, modern, and energetic, Sushi By Bou blends disco-inspired decor with a casual-elegant omakase bar. Guests describe a lively, trendy vibe with neon accents, upbeat music (sometimes loud), and an exciting, social atmosphere. The rooftop view of DC monuments adds a scenic touch. If you prefer quiet, traditional omakase, note that the room can be loud and fast-paced on busy nights.

Busiest: weekend evenings and later-night seatings (Fri–Sat after 7pm). Quietest: early 5pm seatings and some weekday nights. Guests commonly recommend the 5pm seating for a quieter, more relaxed omakase with daylight rooftop views. Expect a livelier crowd and louder music on weekend nights.

Yes, you should call ahead. Guests report success requesting accommodations like allergy handling, pescatarian substitutions, or chef requests. Because the omakase is timed and structured, confirm special requests (allergies, dietary restrictions, celebratory notes) when booking so the team can prepare. For add-ons like caviar or wagyu, request them in advance to avoid availability issues.

Yes, timed omakase seatings are popular and guests advise booking in advance; some reviews describe delays or waits when bookings run late. The restaurant operates scheduled sessions, so spots can fill and there may be short waits or staggered seating on busy nights. Reserving ahead reduces the chance you’ll be turned away or delayed.

Yes, Sushi By Bou is a popular choice for date night. Guests consistently praise the rooftop views, lively yet intimate vibe, and engaging sushi-chef experience that feels special. The timed 12-course omakase (around $65) or the bougie 17-course upgrade makes for a memorable occasion with craft cocktails and sake pairings. Note the bar seating can be cozy and the experience is paced to finish within an hour, so plan accordingly for a celebratory night out.

Weekdays, especially early evening (Mon–Thu or a 5pm weekday seating), are often best for a less crowded, more relaxed experience. If you want a lively scene and late-night energy, Friday or Saturday offers the full disco vibe and busier rooftop. Choose based on whether you prefer calm or a high-energy atmosphere.
