Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.
The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Jesus Delgado, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

What Insiders Are Saying
High-end Peruvian food that will cost you a bit but is worth the price.
My wife is Peruvian and I have lived in Latin America for 8-yrs. Excellent, a great find in Chicago. If you like spicy ask for rocoto
food and menu are outstanding! service was superb! nothing about Tanta is below average!
Great food, great service. An all-round wonderful spot.
The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully plated.
The food was amazing and great service!
We are peruvians and that was the furthest thing from real peruvien food...we were very disappointed.
We were a party of 4, in Chicago for the weekend & wanted to try Peruvian food. Lunch is reasonable when experimenting. We were glad we did, it was delicious! Our waiter was friendly & explained the dishes thoroughly. We definitely recommend trying Tanta!
My only 2 complains are:
1) the Menu. It was confusing to read and the waiter did not take time to explain it.
2) I made a reservation at 7, i was on time and still they made me wait to be seated. One would expect a courtesy back for the courtesy of showing up and being in time, but i barely remember an apology been given.
Love this restaurant! The food is fantastic
Awesome! Beyond expectations.
Went here with my partner to celebrate a birthday. When making the reservation I specified the occasion but there was no mention of it any time during our visit. I felt bad because his food was too rare for him so he had to send it back. Our waiter was kinda rude afterward even though we were very kind the entire time. May I remind you that we ordered some of the most expensive dishes and a 3rd dish to share upon her recommendations.
This is a great find. We will be back with more friends to introduce this wonderful Peruvian food. Awesome!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Every dish has interesting flavors that I can’t quite figure out. My favorite is the classic causitas.
Perfect foodie experience. It could have been noisy- but not late lunch on Monday. What a treat!
Go to Tanta. This is a gem, in terms of fabulous food, in a difficult neighborhood. Why difficult? because many River North restaurants are super trendy, super loud and the food is, just well, MEH. In contrast, Tanta has authentic Peruvian (meaning ---what people who love food are eating now in Peru---) good food. Did you know that Peruvian food tops the list in terms of 'interesting, innovative, delicious, and destination' food? No? well here you have it. Right in Chicago. Right in River North. Right in your neighborhood. Empanadas with quinoa. Chifa (Chinese) food done Peruvian (because there are a lot of Chinese living in Peru, forever). Anticuchos. And, no, there is no guacamole or any of that other stuff that passes for "latino".
Avoid the noisy local Mexican 'nuova cocina' places and take yourself to Tanta. And have a Pisco Sour. You will be transported to a place where "life is too short to have a bad meal". Enjoy.
Great ambiance and service awesome drinks Delicious food
Would return and recommend it.
Food was excellent. It was a bit noisy and difficult to carry-on a conversation.
Really great food and they were awesome about accommodating food allergies. The waitress was really helpful and guided us towards food we could eat. Everything was delicious!
Excellent small plates. Tried tuna ceviche and octopus with golden potatoes- delicious.
Pisco Sour was good but I have had better. Lunch entree was pretty good. Would like to try dinner sometime. Service was excellent!
The food and the ambiance are fantastic! Would highly recommend!
First time at Tanta, recommended by Peruvian friends in Milwaukee, where we live. Tanta exceeded our expectations- quality of food was excellent and flavors interesting and we felt it was a good value. Presentation was artistic and the food arrived at our table much more quickly than I anticipated. We had great servers. Seafood dishes were interesting and yummy!
We’ll be back
Drinks wayyyyyyyy too expensive. Everything else outstanding. Waitress a little disconnected but still good!
Highly recommend this restaurant for its awesome food and excellent service!
Excellent sharing food. Waitress asked to take time over delivery of food and did so! Unusual in US.
Thank you for the excellent food.
The service was friendly too.
Delicious, innovative & fresh - not a hot dog fancier joint! Lots of vegetable options & plenty of help for the novice to this cuisine
I arranged dinner for a group unfamiliar with Peruvian cocktails and dining. Outstanding. Our waitress was extremely helpful in choosing an excellent assortment of apps.
We will definitely be back.
Fun cocktails and taro chips for a starter. The ceviche was nicely prepared and tasty but lots of onions, so if you are on a date beware! The chicken empanadas were perfect, tender, well seasoned and not at all greasy. We shared plates and everyone's favorite was hands down the leg of lamb - fall apart tender. The "fried rice" dish in a stone bowl was also excellent. The kind of place to go as a group so that you can try different dishes.
The service was great! I didn’t like the food because everything was too spicy. The dish I ordered (lomo saltado) was more like an Asian stir fry than the traditional lomo saltado I had at other restaurants and in Peru. The price is very high for the quality of the food.
Birthday dinner for a Tanta newbie. I’ve loved this restaurant for years and definitely lived up to my expectations. Octopus dish was tender and the scallops were phenomenal. Our server was super observant and guided us well on drinks and the food.
My cousin who was the “newbie” celebrating her birthday and I know she will return soon.
With Chef Giancarlo Valera taking the reins from Chef Jesus Delgado (who has move into a corporate role with Gaston Acurio), there has not been the slightest deviation in quality nor experience at Tanta. My server, Scott, didn’t scoff in the slightest when I ordered a pisco sour with an ambitious sampling of Peruvian staples: skewers of beef heart, empanada de res, crab chaufa, and yucca croquettes. In fact, he rewarded my digestive optimism with a lime custard dessert on the house. Everything I had expected and more.
The food was delicious. We will definitely go back.
The only downside is a waitres who didn’t bother to explain the menu. This was our first time in Tanta and she didn’t ask as if we were there before. She gave us menus and left. Then she came back to ask us if we decided. When I asked about less spicy food she kind god annoyed and pointed two dishes. So that was it from her side.
For a restaurant like this ( and the prices, we spent 200$) I would expect more info about menus and restaurant itself.
We came here nearly a year ago before we traveled to Peru to see what the food was like. After coming back, we really appreciate everything on the menu. The Pisco Sours are great and they were served everywhere we went in Peru. The food ingredients are totally authentic, but the preparation is way above most that you get in Peru other than at the very high end restaurants. Best octopus we have ever had. The mixed seafood grill is a favorite. Definitely try the Cerviche Tasting and the Empanadas. The Japanese influence is something we did not realize was a thing there but it is and Tanta does a great job of incorporating it into their selections. We go out a lot and I usually don't rave about experiences, but I have to rave about Tanta.
Tanta served delicious Peruvian dishes. As a Peruvian myself, I was very pleased.
Great food! Ceviche was delicious! Loved the atmosphere.
Tanta is absolutely delicious. We went to Peru recently and were thrilled to find out there was a Tanta in Chicago. The flavors and ingredients are so fresh and authentic. We did the ceviche sampler, the seafood squid ink fried rice, and the lomo saltado and they were all phenomenal. The pisco sours was the best I’ve ever had. The service was great. I highly recommend.
Tanta does not disappoint, the food is wonderful.
Exceptional food, unique presentation. Flavor explode in your mouth. Service was good. Deserts were routine but with a Peruvian twist making them stand out. Awesome experiences. Highly recommended if you are not familir with Peruvian cuisine.
Excellent food with awesome service. Our waiter assisted us in becoming familiar with the menu. An ad plural ty outstanding Peruvian food.
Wonderful food and a fantastic waiter to guide us through it. Can’t wait to go again.
