Tanta is dedicated to sharing the flavors and culture of Peru with Chicago, serving authentic Peruvian dishes and beverages in an approachable, fun and casual downtown setting. We provide service that is casual yet knowledgeable, genuine and attentive, utilizing locally sourced products and vendors that are sensitive to sustainable farming and fishing.

Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.

The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Jesus Delgado, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

Our experience at Tanta was fantastic. We started with cocktails on the rooftop. All were excellent. The menu was amazing and with so many excellent choices, we elected to share all the dishes with the table. We even shared 4 desserts! Everyone has put Tanta on their preferred Chicago restaurant list. The service was also very good.

Phenomenal food! It was second time there and would love to try out their brunch next time! Nothing short of delicious and you honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Servers were really nice and prompt, ambiance was great, I've tried both the dining downstairs as well as the roof top and the roof top offers a great view and a more laid back feel. Can't wait to go again!

Food was very good. Small dishes were a little bit on the smaller side - even by small dish standards. I thought the fish dishes were much better than the meat dishes - the flavoring on them was more distinct and unique and felt like something you couldn’t get elsewhere. Nothing was bad by any means....but the fish was much better. Fantastic drinks by the way - something I hadn’t had before. We went for my daughter’s birthday and they made special arrangement at the last minute to recognize her. Overall a very good experience.

Great food, service, and setting. Felt like I was back in Peru eating with my family, while at the same enjoying something luxurious and gourmet. The presentation of the dishes was by far the most outstanding part, with the vivid colors and use of micro greens. Can’t wait to go back

The menu is a bit confusing. Is it tapas or is it an entree but once we figured that out the food was outstanding! Server was very knowledgeable and patient with us. We will definitely be back.

The food was good, I had the lomo saltado and chicken empanadas! Highly recommend both, they were delicious!! The rooftop was nice and our waitress was so sweet!

I was put off when I was told by the hostess despite having a my entire party needed to be present to be seated. However, the ladies seated before me neither had a reservation nor had a complete party and were seated.

I don’t want to say race played a part but I was offended I had to sit at the bar until my party arrived and people without a full party and reservations were seated

Service was great! Our server was from South Beach and she knows a lot of Peruvian food. The Lomo Saltado was the dish I like the most! The whole fish was a little too salty for me. Ceviche are great. Would love to try again eating at their rooftop!

Tanta is always an excellent experience. It's definitely on the pricier end, but it's well worth it for special occasions. Try everything on the menu!

Upon entering the manager did not smile, nor did our server. Was it because I have gray hair and my daughter in law from Hong Kong was not stylish enough that we were taken to a very dark table next to the kitchen? We had a reservation and there were empty tables. We loved our first dishes— ceviche and grilled octopus. The second courses were good, not outstanding. An expensive meal, so I would expect friendly service.

There is no communication between reception and roof. We were sent back and forth from the roof to the restaurant because of lack of availability of tables. Even after having a reservation. When we finally just decided to dine indoors we were seated. After a long wait the Waiter came over, first off he could be courteous and responsive. When taking our order he literally stated "i wansn't ready to take your order and didn't know you guys would be so complicated" when we were ready to order appetizers after having waited a while for him to come over. He then took one of our Menus with out us ordering yet, leaving us having to share one menu, when one says thank you, he should MINIMUM acknowledge the customer instead did not even nod or even look at us, all the time looking elsewhere while we ordered or requested service.

Food was GREAT but the general experience was not welcoming.

My experience here was not the best at all. The server did not make any suggestions or recommendations. The noise in this restaurant is awful. You can't talk to the people in your table. I would not recommend going here if you want an intimate and calm environment. The only good thing about this place was the food. Definitely worth the price but would never go again.

Friend of our recommended that we try Tanta and we were not disappointed. Our server was great when she found out that this was our first time here. We went with her suggestions. Great place.

Arrived for lunch and given choice to be seated alfresco, inside or under the shaded bar area. The bartender, Kevin, made South American caipirinhas like he was from Rio de Janeiro so we stayed at the bar. We started with ceviche special and tried three skewers (tenderloin, octopus, and chicken). All were delicious. Service was spectacular. Rooftop setting great! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😎👍🏾

The food here was Fabulous! Loved the little rooftop patio though our hostess was not very gracious about having to adjust our seating when a 5th person was able to make it. Our server was similarly unfriendly and somber, though he was very knowledgeable on the menu items. Just not very cheerful about answering questions or looking as though he enjoyed his job. Pity because besides those factors, I would return in a heartbeat. Street noise was a little loud but didn't detract from the experience. After all, its a rooftop space in Chicago!

We used to love Tanta but I have to say we got a little disappointed with this visit. The service was fine, our waiter was very attentive and nice. The food was disappointing. From the 4 ceviches we ordered, 2 were not as good as they used to be. We ordered the lomo saltado too, which was nothing special. Could get it at a chinese place or make it at home, with lots of soy sauce, just like at Tanta - it was very salty by the way, and the waiter removed it from our check.

We got three drinks between the two of us - all different - but all three tasted the same (like an overload of sour mix). My dish was over-salted. The "cheesecake" should not be called cheesecake...not sure what that was. The one shining spot were the Empanadas. Those were delicious. Overall though, we were disappointed.

We were sat at an unusually large table (not at our request) and mid-way through our second course we were asked by management to change tables. Extremely awkward. Also waiter was too infrequent to check on us and I really dislike bothering other servers for things but had to a few times. Bussers kept trying to take away food we were still enjoying as if they were trying to speed us up and outta there.

I felt as though we were the inconvenience the whole time versus feeling welcome and appreciated patrons. Food however was equisite and flavorful. Not my first time in, but definitely the most frustrating especially when we were there to make this the main event of our night and not just some stop in.

Tanta was overall amazing. From the moment my guest and i arrived we were treated very well. There was Latin music playing but it was at the perfect volume. Once our server came to us he was very detailed and helpful with the menu. Half of the menu is almost tapas style with small plates and the rest was entrees. Our first appetizer was the smoke torched Waygu steak niguiri. It’s was great. Second was the mercado ceviche.. AMAZING! It had scallops, shrimp, calamari and more. The sweet potato added a nice hint of sweetness, as the corn nuts added a perfect crunch. Next we had the chicken empanada, it comes with a sauce that is to die for. It does only bring one so i suggest you get two if you’re with a company. I also had Barbarian beer which is a Peruvian beer, very tangy and almost sour but very refreshing. To finish both my guest and i had the Lomo Saltado. A classic Peruvian dish. The meat was perfectly tender and juicy, potatoes were super crispy and everything cooked to perfection. The portion was also huge. I suggest you get more apps and split one plate of lomo saltado. If you love steak definitely get that dish. You will not regret it. Overall excellent place to visit in the afternoon in Chicago.
