The food is decent. Menu is
Limited. I would say it’s worth a try but the service is so
Poor, I would say pass.
My daughter and I went for afternoon tea. We got Great service!!! Great food! Ambiance was awesome!
The food was good, the coffee was great, the service was very friendly but extremely slow. The restaurant wasn’t that full, and yet our food order was not taken until almost an hour after we were seated.
We were able to make a 1a reservation through the app but upon arrival were told the kitchen closed. Waste of time as I had brought out of town guests.
Love the Allis and the afternoon tea. It is a very casual environment for tea, which makes it feel less stuffy. The food is great too. On this occasion, however, the service was lacking. After our food was initially brought, I wanted to order something else. I tried to get someone's attention to order something else, but no one was ever around. Finally, when I got someone's attention, almost an hour later, and ordered something from the brunch menu the item I wanted to order was no longer available as the menu had just changed. It would have been appreciated to have had someone come around and ask us if we wanted anything else before the menu changed over. I still would recommend the Allis, but was very disappointed in the service for this meal.
overall nice but too expensive for drinks or brunch.
The absolute worst tea experience! Terrible service, wether you are short staff or not tables should not be ignored for long periods of time (especially at a slow time of day, 2:15). The tea selection was mediocre and the food was just bad! Sandwiches that were all made with dry bread and the thinnest layer of filling, horrible tasting desserts that were not even acceptable for tea. That fact we had to ask for cream and sugar and the waiter looked at us like it was a chore. After I asked how this could be considered a high quality and rated high tea place in the city the waiter shrugged and said from Instagram, what?!? I am so disappointed that they could ruin such a beautiful and fun tradition.
Do a little research Allis, it not hard food to prepare, but you need to research some quality tea and teach your staff simple tea protocol.
Good food. Love everything about this place except the service.
The ambiance was beautiful as usual and the food was excellent, but our server was SO BAD. He either hated us immediately for some reason or must have taken a tranquilizer before work - can't think of any other possible explanation. Absolutely no enthusiasm, no willingness to do anything except the bare minimum, wouldn't make eye contact, and wouldn't even answer our questions. We asked for hot sauce and he just walked away from the table without saying anything. He ended up coming back with it a few minutes later and setting it down on the table (again without saying anything), but I'm not sure why he had to be so weird/rude. We didn't do anything to deserve that kind of treatment!
Gorgeous social club with a bar-styled dining area downstairs. The aesthetic alone will cause me to return, but the the delectable roasted chicken plate sealed the deal. Will be recommending to all business partners and friends who will be traveling to the Chicago.
Good place to come with friends to have a drink and socialize.
We had a nice meal at The Allis - our third time eating there - but the service did not live up to our previous experience. We were dining with family visiting from out of town and wanted to show them one of the places we really like. The Allis is truly lovely inside, with seating scattered through the entry way and a dining/bar area upstairs. In the past, we've sat in the upstairs area and had great food with great service. This time we sat at an awkward little coffee table in the entry area (not really easy for the older members of the party) and the service wasn't great - and I'm pretty patient. Food came out staggered, coffee/water were refilled for only some people, and we felt pretty much forgotten by the time we wanted our check. Perhaps it was the time of day -- breakfast, instead of lunch/tea -- or perhaps the location -- entry area instead of main dining room.
I would recommend The Allis based on past experience, but based on this particular meal I will always request to sit in the main dining room, and avoid earlier table times.
Loved the experience here! Great food and selection of cocktails!
The last 2 times I’ve been to the Allis the service has been mediocre at best . At my most recent visit they forgot one of our group members food orders and it took them nearly 30 minutes to get her food to her once they realized she didnt get her entree. While they comped her entree ( not her entire meal) the overall service was poor with no one checking how we were doing , not filling water glasses and just generally not attentive . I love the ambience but service is sub par.
Good place, the restaurant attached to a hotel. The food is good needed to be a little bigger and the menu needs to list a few more items on it. Service is good, the hotel staff is snobbish, but I was here for the food. I didn't order anything from the bar but it looked well stocked and very attractive. Seating is nice, but unless you tell them at your reservation, you will sit on a couch.
Came here with a few girlfriends for brunch. A bit confusing when you enter. The hostess stand is on your left! Also we thought we were OK for afternoon tea but that didn't start until 2. The tables are quite small so be prepared to pile up plates. Service was OK, multiple people were helping and I never was asked for a coffee refill and the tap water was warm. We asked for ice, never given. The food was ok, the bagel special was enough for 3, but again, small space at the table.
Please help me understand why this reservation was not eligible for points.

Great for a special afternoon tea.
My only complaint is that I would have liked more refills on the drinks, but the food, ambiance, and noise level were all great and the server was friendly. Overall, I would definitely recommend to a friend.
I was Looking as usual on YELP for a new brunch place and saw this beautiful place had Shoushaka an Israeli dish that's very unusual to see on a menu. So initially I called and they said they had no reservations for 1pm so I went on open table through the YELP app and VIOLA a 1:15 reservation. We opted to sit inside upstairs. Our server was very friendly but the food took a while to come out. So we were all starving we ordered a banana bread..it was just OK nothing special. Finally all the food at once the Shoushouka didn't have enough true Israeli spices in it so it was just ok. We had the kale salad it was just ok too and the halloumi cheese and grilled cauliflower sandwich that was awesome!! The vegan at the table had the avocado toast sans the egg. Can't go wrong with that one. The coffee was intelligentsia awesomeness!! Well it was a nice amount of food all though the man was still kinda hungry. Lol I will try again see if I find that BOMB dish!
The restaurant was absolutely beautiful with huge chandeliers and antique decorations. I loved the hamburger but the rest of the food was just ok. What ruined my experience was the server who was condescending and rude. The worst part, I later realized she charged for 3 glasses of Prosecco when we only had one.
Great place for a nice cocktail. We didn't dine there other than an appetizer, so really have no idea how the restaurant would be. I did see a group of people having tea, which looked delightful. Would love to try high tea there at some point.
Went for breakfast. Didn’t realize dining room wasn’t open before 9:30 so ate in lobby/bar area, still lovely.
Amazing brunch ! Great service and hip atmosphere !
We celebrated my mother-in-law’s birthday after getting rained out at a rooftop bar, and everyone had an amazing time.
The Allis is known for having poor service but it was REAL BAD. The avocado toast is good, but not worth it unless you're not that hungry and looking to spend a good amount of time without having drinks refreshed, etc.
The service was extremely poor
Do not go here for their food. Probably one of the worst diners I’ve had while living in Chicago. Drinks are fine.
This was our groups first time dining at the Allis. We were celebrating our Chamber of Commerce annual lunch during The afternoon tea time. The atmosphere is lovely and the service and food is excellent. You almost have to force yourself to leave because it’s such a great place. We all loved it and look forward to dining there again!
Great place! Will come again!
Best tea I can find in Chicago! Also I love the cozy and relaxing vibe. I've done both brunch and dinner here, and its the perfect spot for brunch with friends or a nice evening out with your significant other!
We loved the band - go and listen to the Oh Yeahs !
I found the overall noise level was exhausting for general conversation. Service was slow to get started, but attentive once we placed the initial order. Bell's is always a welcome sight on the menu.
We didn’t realize that there would be live music - I’ve selected this location in the past because it’s been quiet enough to have a business drink. Is there a way to find out the live music schedule? The servers were very gracious and tried to move us to a table downstairs, but it was still impossible to hear.
So good I’m still thinking about the Allis breakfast the next day!!
Lovvvvveeee the Allis - they made our birthday super special
I’ve came here on a friend get together for brunch! Everything was clean and the place was quite exquisite and super Gorgeous! I’ve taken photos for Instagram and i would recommend it for Instagram lovers! Also the food was good I had the advcado toast and my friend had the burger & fries!
Great ambiance and amazing service! Our waiter was so polite and helpful.
The food and atmosphere was fairly enjoyable, but the service was non-existent. I sat for at least 15 minutes before I was even acknowledged by numerous waiters walking by. When they did finally engage for service, I found their demeanor dismissive and inattentive, like I was a burden to them for being there. I was the only person in the entire restaurant, trying to enjoy breakfast at 7:30am, 30 minutes after they opened for the day. Very disappointing and trying too hard to be "cool". Get over yourselves...
The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and a fun vibe! The service was excellent. This is a great place for sharing dishes with a large group. There was a jazz band which added to the ambiance but didn't play so loudly that you couldn't hear conversation at the table.
