Great ambiance and amazing service! Our waiter was so polite and helpful.
The food and atmosphere was fairly enjoyable, but the service was non-existent. I sat for at least 15 minutes before I was even acknowledged by numerous waiters walking by. When they did finally engage for service, I found their demeanor dismissive and inattentive, like I was a burden to them for being there. I was the only person in the entire restaurant, trying to enjoy breakfast at 7:30am, 30 minutes after they opened for the day. Very disappointing and trying too hard to be "cool". Get over yourselves...
The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and a fun vibe! The service was excellent. This is a great place for sharing dishes with a large group. There was a jazz band which added to the ambiance but didn't play so loudly that you couldn't hear conversation at the table.
Overcrowded, too busy, too noisey and the staff was a bit rude to the table of 11 that we had. I had heard so many great things but I have to say the night was average at best. Maybe we will try another night and see if gets better
I was excited to go to the Allis as I heard great things. I'm sure it was a mix up with schedule changing, but we were asked 3 times, by 3 different servers if we were "Ok with water"? aka the initial table greeting. I was unsure who our server was. They took forever to finally come and take our order, but asked 3 times about the water.. Never once did they ask how the food was and I had to ask for the check at the end. Great restaurant/menu/food, but does that mean you can skimp on the service? Hesitant to recommend.
An interesting place --it is like an up scale Starbucks .Don't get me wrong 'it is a very cool place and awesome people watching .In addition, the service is great .
Never in my life have I had an experience like this. We arrived at 8:00pm, finished eating at 9:45 and didn’t leave until nearly 10:40 because our waiter literally disappeared for a full hour and the rest of the staff was too busy to handle our table. We sat there with a completely empty table for that whole time waiting for our check, held hostage to our chairs by the fact that we hadn’t yet paid.
THEN! When we finally received our check, it was incorrect and had to be sent back. AND ON TOP OF IT, when I awoke the next morning I saw that I had been charged the amount for the incorrect check AND THE CORRECT CHECK, in essence doubling the cost of my eating experience which was already ruined by the poor service. Making an eighty dollar dinner for two nearly two hundred dollars. I then called to have the situation rectified, was passed around to 4 managers, had to explain what happened 4 times. Never in my life have I had such a horrifying time. I really needed that extra hundred they took from me and I was nearly in tears by the time I got home.
And worse of all, the food was DELICIOUS and the ambiance was stunning. If this hadn’t happened I would have made the Allis a regular dinner option but I literally will never set foot in this establishment again.
Love love this place!! The atmosphere is so warm yet hip and inviting. Eggs Benedict was awesome and maple bacon outstanding. The Allis is always on my list of favorites!!
Gorgeous place, great service and delicious food! I've been for brunch with a friend on a Sunday and we both loved it. Advanced reservation is suggested.
Service is very attentive, our waiter asked if we had any allergy or dietary restrictions and having asked to avoid anything with lactose they made my eggs with no butter and cheese.
I was vey pleased with the whole experience and will surely return soon!
The coconut warm pudding was delicious. So was the breakfast plate my husband got. He loved the smoked salmon and avocado. Highly recommend this place.
Excellent cocktails. That's all we had. Cool feel even if a bit too loud.
Went for friend’s bachelorette celebration
Desiree our waitress was INCREDIBLE. We loved her and she made sure our experience was the best! We will be back. Awesome food. Awesome service.
The food was interesting. Good, and interesting. The first waiter we had was nice, seemed knowledgable. The bar tender was very good with our drinks.
I had a great burger and my wife had a great sandwich. The fries were really good. We also had the crispy mushrooms.
The chairs were more like living room chairs and made for a comfy seat.
What I didn't like was that our waiter left, or was changed and no one told us. I noted that our guy had not been seen in a while and we had a show to see. After asking for our waiter twice, a guy that had walked past us a dozen or more times came by and dropped a check. No explanation. I had asked three people for additional ketchup. Nada. I should have kept the tip.
The other thing I didn't like was the size of the check. Two sanwiches, a cheap appetizer, two martini's and two wines came to $113.00.
I said above that I would recommend it to a friend, with a warning. Good food. Strange service.
Waiter shift change in the middle of dinner, but both provided great service. Food was served hot and tasted amazing. We weren't rushed like some other restaurants. Will definitely be going back!
We found this wonderful place on Open Table on a busy Sunday afternoon for restaurants. They had an open seat at 4:00; and after looking at the all day menu, we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, when we arrived, all they were serving was high tea that afternoon. The tea looking amazing, but we wanted something if more substance by that time. Maybe a note on the Open Table menu about limited options on Sundays? However, if you are looking for a fun Sunday afternoon experience, check it out!
We went for brunch and it was pretentious. I asked for my eggs scrambled (well cooked) and they were runny which ruined my entire meal. Waiter acted like he didn’t have time for us. Seating for eating was awkward on the main level.
We had a fantastic time at The Allis! The aesthetics and decor of the restaurant were incredible, which definitely mirrored the exceptional service and Insta-worthy food. Coming from out of town, we wanted to go somewhere great for a Sunday breakfast, and this place exceeded all expectations. We will for sure be back on our next Chicago adventure!
I love the Allis! Been twice now during a girls weekend to Chicago and it's been perfect. They have house made gluten free bread and lots to accomodate GF needs, but it is still so tasty! Definitely recommend and I'll be back.
Waiter basically ignored us the entire time. Had to find someone for everything. Even walked around restaurant to pay. Not what I expected at all
Was disappointed in the food, all three of us were. Menu selections were okay at best. This was for lunch.
Last week I had breakfast at Allis. Never was served everything I had ordered.
A couple girls flew into Chicago for the first time for a girls weekend. I picked this place based on the ambiance and being accommodating towards gluten free. The girls absolutely loved this place and it was one of the highlights of their trip. The service was outstanding!
I always enjoy this quaint place. The coffee and scones are very delicious. Stellar customer service. Street parking isn't the greatest. Valet parking is expensive.
Loved coming to Soho but the food is not that great anymore.
Very good, but not very clean
I don't understand why they would allow you to make a reservation if it is open seating until 11:00 am. My group of 5 ended up being cramped on a couch because 1 person would take up a whole table. The mezzanine level doesn't open until 11:00 so if you want to enjoy the cute atmosphere from the pictures they show online, don't go there before 11am. They were incredibly short-staffed which is not our server's fault who was awesome but entirely Management's fault. Overall a very frustrating experience. The food was good though.
I recommend every dish we got: French toast, Eggs Benedict, Egg sandwich
Food and tea was great, having been to several different teas, it was above par. The atmosphere was a bit less of a tea-room given it’s a full restaurant, and there is a hustle and bustle in the room given people are coming and going to the rest of Soho house. Regardless, the atmosphere is warm, and yet trendy, feeling very West Loop. That being said, I thought the service was a huge let down to the overall experience. While our waiter was intitially attentive, he essentially disappeared after taking our food order, and never came back to our table to ask how things were or to re-fill our tea pots. He did not re-visit our table until he saw my credit card in hand about an hour later. I noticed many other waiters checking on their tables, and re-filling tea pots, so was disappointed by our lack of service. Also, we ordered afternoon tea, for two, and when the tea platter came out, it had one of every item. We thought this was strange, as how do you share the items between two people? It was not until I received the check, that I saw our waiter had only given us tea service for one. I am not sure what the disconnect was, but please be aware to specify the number of tea services you want. One service is not enough for two people, unless it’s an appetizer before a full lunch. Will definitely return for tea, the food and tea was exceptional. The service was hopefully a fluke.
Perfect in every way.
Always love coming back to the Allis! Great food, great ambiance, the staff is always amazing!
Delicious food and good variety without having an overwhelming menu. Super modern but comfy decor. Would recommend for any occasion.
Really enjoy the atmosphere and food! Super comfortable, relaxing, and attentive staff!
Nothing’s better than the avocado toast
Waiter seemed rush and distracted.
This was my second visit to The Allis; the first was a positive experience. However, this visit was quite different. Instead of seating us upstairs in the regular dining area, we were seated downstairs about 12" from the bar in over-stuffed chairs that were ridiculously close to the floor. This seating situation is probably fine for the cocktail crowd, but it was uncomfortable trying to eat. Our server started out to be just fine; however, we had to flag someone down to refill our water glasses. But the worst offense was that we found ourselves waiting and waiting to ask for coffee & for someone to clear our plates. Finally, I asked a different server for help. She said, "Oh, your server left. So-and-so is now your server. He's over there." I waived down that guy and asked for the check. We'd lost any interest in staying any longer. There was no apology. Although I really like the edgy vibe of this place, we have far too many choices in Chicago for terrific dining to put up with mediocre service. Neither my friend nor I nor any of the innumerable people we've already told about The Allis will be returning.
Very nice and chic place, drinks were awesome specially "el picante de la casa", food was limited, good for quick bites. Hamburguer was phenomenal, so was the mac and cheese. 100% recommended
Loved the food, service and ambiance! The perfect choice for a girl’s night out!
