The Cow and Calf in Ilkley is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

In 1844, the country's first hydropathic hotel, The Benrhydding was built on the site of The Cow and Calf. In 1873 the building became a private residence called Highfield House, then in 1949 it became a boarding house. When visiting The Cow and Calf, look out for great views across Wharfedale and historic features, like the old Victorian well that still sits in the grounds.

Once a celebrated spa hotel in the 19th century, our distinctive inn overlooks the famous Cow & Calf rock formation on dramatic Ilkley Moor. It's a panoramic place to wine, dine, relax and rest up overnight.

    Weather was good so views stunning. Cow & calf is a favourite watering hole & with friends over from Canada, a great place to go knowing we would have good food & good service with good views & to cap it all, a Canadian server too!

    A quiet post Christmas Monday evening in the restaurant but the standard of food was very good and the service friendly. We had a nice evening.

    Terrible food. Overcooked burgers, warm limp salad ontop of fried fish, peas swimming in water, crème brulee tasted "fridgey". Despite roaring log fires the dining room was cold, smoke/burning smells from the kitchen filled the pub, and there was a strong smell of stale cooking oil.

    The Cow and Calf were very accommodating despite a mess up with booking through open table, apparently we weren't the only ones who had problems but luckily we turned up early and we managed to get seated for a lovely Sunday roast platter!

    Booked ahead for a table for 4, got there a good half hour early & they still managed to accommodate us. Service is usually good here, no complaints. The Cow & Calf has a good selection of drinks, the menu is great. The food is well presented, just wish they put more sauce in the cheese & mushroom starter (lol). I had a bacon on the bone, sadly more bone than bacon / gammon on the plate, otherwise very nice. Normally food here is faultless.
