Food was very good and excellent variety. Drinks will make you tipsy and at first you will wonder do they even have an alcohol, so great mixologist. Service was bad compared to the ambiance and prices. It took them 30 minutes to start serving us water after we got seated. We went on a Friday evening.
The place is nice and the lady who served us was attentive and professional but my girlfriend and I have been emailing their event planners or whoever the group is to setup something in the near future for around 30 guests and no response yet. It's been almost two weeks or emailing and being told to try another day. Not sure why they haven't replied
The Franklin Room is a great restaurant. The food was awesome. The service was exceptional. Peter behind the bar is one of the best around. He loves his job and it shows very passionate and knowledgeable about every drink he serves. Was traveling for work and found this place now every time I go to Chicago I will find time to grab dinner and drinks at The Franklin Room.
I was looking forward to our team lunch at Franklin Room. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the food. We had a few apps to start. The crispy shrimp, crab dip, and popovers. The shrimp was good, crab dip ok, but the popovers were bland. I had the lobster roll for lunch and the roll was well over toasted, it was very hard. Not in a good way either. The lobster was ok, not a ton of flavor. The side of fries were just barely crispy. I expected more especially since this isn't an inexpensive lunch.
I really wanted to like Franklin Room. I have been there before and liked it. Great drinks to be sure and we had a good bottle of wine. Service was friendly and efficient. However, the noise level was a little over the top. I gave up trying to talk. But the bigger issue for me was the food to price ratio. Prices were a little high, to unusual for city location. But the food quality was simply okay. No one in my group was overly impressed. I would go back for drinks and to check out music on weekend. But there is better food out there.
Casual, lively, with very good food. Majority of people youngish, but saw all ages there. More like a tavern, I like the atmosphere.
Loved our server Dan! He was so professional and attentive. Thanks for a great birthday experience!
Went to meet up with friends to celebrate 2 birthdays and a mini-reunion. It was a grand time and our server Mark was amazing and took tremendous care of us with great recommendations doe food and drinks!
Everything about dinner at the Franklin room was great. The food was excellent and the service was top-notch. I will definitely be back
Overall a good experience. My wife and I ordered the french onion soup, wedge salads, new york strip and ribeye. All came out hot and on time without feeling rushed. Would highly recommend.
We loved our experience at The Franklin Room. Our waiter Daniel was an excellent host as well as Lauren. My husband was surprised when he noticed the menu personalized with his name. The ambience was great so I was able to have an intimate conversation. We will be coming back again in the future! ❤️
Amazing as always.
Had reservations – we were seated at a table right on top of another couple. Asked to be reseated – other tables for two were less than a foot away from other tables. Not private at all. Could hear every tables conversation throughout our dinner. Ordered crab dip appetizer - came with Ritz crackers (really??) Speakeasy theme - decor was nice, extensive whiskey list, ordered the house old fashioned- very good. Ordered the spicy bourbon burger and added Parmesan truffle fries - was good, but not great. Would probably return for drinks, but would eat somewhere else.
Excellent ambiance and service. Food was just ok and felt overpriced for what it was.
Very cool ambience in an old "speakeasy" bar/restaurant. Surf & Turf burger was excellent with a soft shell crab - try it! The old fashioned was just ok.
So good! The food was delicious! We had the squid ink pasta, tomahawk steak and burger with soft shell crab and loved every meal.
Unfortunately disappointed in The Franklin Room after seeing so many positive reviews. Maybe it was an off night. The place looks very cool. The staff were friendly. The manager took care of us when we expressed how bad the food tasted, actually it didn't taste bad, for that it would have had to have some taste.
We began with cocktails. Their Old Fashioned was really nice, smooth and not too sweet. The popovers with foie gras butter were also tasty. My husband ordered the Caesar Salad, for some reason the server added chicken to it. Completely over-dressed to the point of being inedible. The crab dip was nice.
Our dinner arrived and we were all very sad. We had the beef short rib, the half chicken, and the lamb shank. While the beef and lamb were each quite tender, they both lacked any depth of flavor. We had to ask for salt and pepper which is never a good sign. The chicken was over cooked and tough, and also lacked flavor. Salting food that has no flavor doesn't help much and we left most of our food on the plate.
The server noticed this when we told her we were done and asked how everything was. We told her our experience and she immediately got the manager. He listened to us and apologized and also took the dinners off of our check. The staff were all very nice, including our server who could probably still use a little more training. We asked how the lamb was prepared and she told us bone-in. When we pressed for further details she said they boiled it. Maybe she meant sous-vide or maybe she meant braised. Not sure.
Anyway, for us this spot didn't live up to the hype. They gave us a gift card to come back, and we will...for an Old Fashioned if not the food.
Service was absurdly slow and we sat there for 20 minutes waiting. Bring headphones because it’s soooooo loud you can’t hear the person across from you. How does the restaurant not know this is a problem? I would never go back just because of the noise level. Made for a very unenjoyable night out.
Great atmosphere and people watching. Comfortable seating arrangements. Food and cocktails were delicious. I will go back!
I met up with a friend here for happy hour/early dinner as I had another engagement to attend later that evening. We ordered various small plates and all were excellent, fresh and delicious and reasonably priced too. The service was attentive as well. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed dining here. We loved the vibe of the place. It is on the pricier side, but the cocktails and food we had were worth it. The Short Rib and Branzino dishes were awesome, full of flavor, really tasty. Have already recommended this place to a few friends, it's a good spot to splurge for a special occasion or date night. Would definitely come back!
Everything was so perfect, I don't know where to start. Great food, atmosphere, drinks, service. This is my new favorite.
Awesome oysters and mixed drinks, husband's steak was delicious, my pasta was pretty good. Each employee congratulated us on our anniversary, server brought over keylime pie -- nice touch! Definitely recommend.
Probably a good place to grab a drink, maybe a burger and hear some music if that is what you are after. We were headed to a show and didn't get to enjoy the music here, I'm sure that would have helped the atmosphere. Be aware the place is in a basement. There are like three feet of windows at ceiling level across part of the front of the place.
No real complaints on the food other than chicken was dry, like very dry. Short rib was delicious, what there was of it for $29 Pub burgers looked ok and didn't bring any complaints or compliments from our guest who ordered the Bourbon burger and the Surf and Turf Burger. Very limited menu.
Didn't go for happy hour but we were there for it. Turns out the half price cocktails special is for their house specialty drinks. Well not the house specialty drinks but "A" specialty drink and "A" selection of wine that was not recommended by the server. Tried a couple of the "Whiskey Boy" hose specials and not bad but nothing I would go back for.
Food came fast and warm. Server was friendly but hard to track down initially. Eventually we did get better service.
All in all there are better options for your $$
Great food and service! Enjoyed the music (play list) as it covered a wide array of past hits.
Had the branzino, steak Tatar and a couple cocktails.
From the receptionist to the bartenders Franklin Room got it right!!
Very accommodating when the party size was more than what I had booked! Thank you.
Absolutely love this place! Last minute date night for me and my wife. Alla was an exceptionally fantastic server! Will be back soon!
So when we got there we got sat at a table that was squeezed next to the bar so it was always a tight area that people would be passing though. My boyfriend politely asked if we could be sat at one of the other two tables open just one table over and initially they said yes and moved us. We were very happy and grateful for them accommodating us until they came back over and told us unfortunately they made a mistake and needed those two tables for a party of four coming and moved us back. Slightly disappointed but no biggie totally understanding until we realized shortly after there was never a party of four that was sat there and in fact in was two parties of two. Next, sitting where we were we ended up swatting away gnats all dinner. Extremely off putting and gross! That all was sad and disappointing because the food ended up being really good! We had the mussels for appetizer and they were super delicious! Such mixed emotions here but truly probably won’t be back.
Our table was right under the entrance steps. Food was terrible and service was no better. I was entertaining business guests and was totally embarrassed.
Super cute decor and great atmosphere. Food was delish. Had oysters, mussels (amazing), risotto and lobster roll. Was there for a bday and they were very friendly to the birthday guy.
First time here. The oysters were great! We had steak frites & lobster roll. Both were good. Our waitress was very nice and attentive! Overall a good experience.
We came here for our 28th anniversary after seeing Hamilton. It was a great night and the food was delicious. We had this restaurant recommended to us and we were very happy to say that it met and exceeded our expectations. We had a fantastic server who was very personable and helpful.
Overall, we had a very good experience. The service was perfect. The food was amazing. And the atmosphere was very nice. Perfect noise level; not too quiet, but not too loud either. And while the price point is on the higher end, it actually is a pretty good value compared to similar menu items at other higher end places.
Delicious food and great portions to get a few items and split amongst people . Highly recommend I loved the Asian fusion inspired menu .
We booked our reservation one month in advance for a friend's birthday. I spoke directly to staff and also noted it on our Open Table reservation. When we arrived, they seated us at a small table right at the entrance (the worst table in the entire restaurant). There were several open booths available. I asked the hostess if we could please move to a booth. She told us to wait, then came back 10 minutes later and told us that she didn't want to risk the timing so we just had to sit at the original crappy table. It was such an uncomfortable table that we ended up hurrying to eat our meal and leaving as soon as possible. I should also mention that all of our appetizers arrived before they even brought our first drink. By the time they finally brought our drink it had been 20 minutes after our appetizers arrived. Not impressed.
We have eaten at The Franklin Room many times and are never disappointed. The food is delicious and a great value.
Good upscale casual date spot. Food was very good and had a huge whisky selection. Service was a bit slow but very responsive to fix a drink issue and very friendly. Highly recommend.
Loved this place great food and fantastic cocktails... a must try in Chicago... I will go again when in Chicago
Food was pretty good but not amazing with small potions but the drinks were really good and it’s a nice date night or girls night spot
