Sadly this was not the experience we hoped for from Bath's only Michelin-starred restaurant. I found the taster menu to be unappetising to the point where I ordered the vegetarian menu instead. I am not vegetarian. This has never happened before. Of course, this could simply be due to having a different palatte to the chef. But I felt that the chef was trying too hard to be clever; creating a menu with an excess of unappetising offal and foods that have fallen out of fashion (for a reason) such as heart and smoked eel. It seemed to be a menu based on challenge and a desire to be noticed rather than offering luxury, delight and a consideration for those being catered to. Not the experience I am accustomed to with - supposedly - world class dining. The vegetarian taster menu was very much an after thought, generally reflecting the main taster menu with a few thin substitutes. One dish was served with a soft horseradish cream swimming in an unappetising, watery beetroot liquid. There was a carrot course which was interesting in terms of textures, techniques and flavours. The wine pairings did not delight. The only white wine was a Reisling that was overpowered with petrol aroma and taste. It was undrinkable. All but one of the reds were astringent and unlovely. I was deeply disappointed that it seemed so hard to offer even a small selection of red wine that was ripe, velvety, full-bodied and complex. Deserts were palatable but could not salvage such a disappointing dining experience. They were also served with unecessarily harsh red wine. Staff were smiling, pleasant and attentive. Both my husband and I noted that they appeared to be under some pressure from the kitchen. Perhaps that impression was partly created by the secret-service style earpieces they wore? While staff were clearly trying their hardest there was an feeling of tension which did not seem to be of their making.

We had a wonderful experience at The Olive Tree, enjoying the seven-course Taste of the Season menu. Every course was beautifully presented, full of flavour and absolutely delicious. The food, service and atmosphere were exceptional and truly worthy of a Michelin star. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and the team made it even more special with a lovely card and a sweet surprise. Such a thoughtful and personal touch! A truly memorable evening. Thank you to the entire team for making our anniversary so special. Highly recommended!

Lively experience - we chose the £80 lunch menu and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I most enjoyed the fallow deer main course and also the chocolate desert with 50 year old balsamic and manni olive oil. Will be back for the larger tasting menu

Some of the food was exceptional. The sweetbread, the duck raviolo, and the deer dishes were particularly delicious. But to be honest, I felt let down by the service. The maitre d who initially 'greeted' us came across as rude and made us feel rushed/ an inconvenience. Service then feel relatively slow, to the point of feeling forgotten about at times (seeing other tables receive faster service) to the point of being there at what felt like closing time (with basically two staff left on the floor). I mainly felt left down because it was supposed to be a special occasion and despite the restaurant having a message about letting them know in advance (which I followed the instructions), it just didn't give us the feeling. As it was a special occasion we still had a nice time. But given the money we spent, and in comparison to other Michelin star restaurants we've been lucky enough to dine at, this just didn't quite feel like the full package.

Easily the best meal we've ever had. The wine pairings took it to the next level. Every dish was so well-thought out. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely go again.

We visited The Olive Tree on Friday evening for their seven-course tasting menu, and overall, we had a fantastic evening. On arrival, we received a lovely warm welcome into the restaurant. It was relatively quiet, with only a small number of other guests dining, which made for a really relaxed and intimate atmosphere. We were presented with an excellent wine list, and the staff were extremely helpful in guiding us towards a wine that would complement the tasting menu. The wine selection was quite expensive, but that’s perhaps to be expected at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Throughout the evening, we were looked after by a number of different members of staff and chefs, all of whom were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Each course was brought out and explained in detail, including the ingredients, flavours and techniques used to create the dishes. This really added to the experience and gave us a greater appreciation of the food. The food itself was absolutely outstanding. We were genuinely blown away by the quality, presentation, flavours, textures and colours of every dish. Each course was an experience in its own right, and the standard of cooking was exceptional. We were at the restaurant from around 7 pm until 10.30 pm, so it was quite a lengthy dining experience. On occasion, we did feel the wait between courses was a little longer than necessary, although that’s probably us being a little picky. We had a brilliant night. The food was genuinely out of this world, and the team did a fantastic job of making the tasting menu an experience rather than simply a meal. A restaurant we would certainly recommend for the quality of its food, and an evening we thoroughly enjoyed.
