The Orange Tree
The menu brings an exciting social dining experience, featuring fresh flavours and ingredients inspired by modern world-food trends. Our large range of small plates, designed for sharing, make the perfect start to dinner and are irresistible as an impromptu bite to eat with 2 for £12 cocktails; we’ve got dishes such as sashimi-grade tuna tartare, miso aubergine bao buns and seared, wild, Atlantic scallops with lobster & crab bonbons.
Fridays and Saturdays are getting glamourous, with specials of freshly shucked rock oysters and sharing grill boards; take your pick from eight-bone free-range New Zealand lamb rack, Chateaubriand or trio of pork.
The Orange Tree in Totteridge is a 3-minute drive from Totteridge & Whetstone Tube Station.
Our reservation did not turn up at the restaurant ..we did not have a table ..the service was horrible and slow ..and super frustrating
Booked table in advance for a Thursday evening and were looking forward to a good meal in a usually relaxed atmosphere with good service.
Arrived and shown to the table which was so cramped in, had to ask people on table either side to squeeze in to allow us in, and chairs were back to back with chairs on next table. Asked to be moved but were told “ other tables have been specifically booked”.
Ordered wine, wine glass had lipstick mark so we asked for clean glass- the waiter slammed ( no exaggeration) the wine bottle down, rolled eyes and walked off. Returned with clean glass and we thought, ok things can only get better.
Starters were nice. The tuna tartare was fantastic.
Mains... the pork belly was good, although served with scallops even though weren’t requested.. ( they did remove from bill when mentioned, after another eye roll), the double cooked chips were soggy, burnt and greasy and the vegetable burger was tough and rubbery. When waiter asked how the food was, he again rolled eyes, no apology and no attempt to replace.
Had dessert and left... obviously could not tip the service.
Have been here many many times but this time has been disappointing - they need to Reevaluate staff training on how to treat clients as not wanting to drink from a glass with someone’s lipstick is not too much to ask nor being comfortable in your seat.
If they don’t have the space, then just don’t book in extra clients.
Service was not fast and attentive. Food was average. Expected a bit more to be honest.
Was nice except service wasn’t great. Busy and staff not around. Didn’t give us plates, napkins till we asked.
Always a lovely atmosphere for lunch! Food delicious and lovely setting!
Good staff, delicious food. There was quite a wait but this was due to the place being packed because of the warm summer evening. Could have been a little quieter in the restaurant.
Nice dinner with a girlfriend, attentive service and great food. Will definitely go back!
Lovely atmosphere, food was good, service was a bit slow but it was a busy Friday night and not had a problem before. Definitely would recommend.
OpenTable booked the table that didn't exist, apparently they do this alot. Orange Tree have asked to be delisted, yet still opentable force customer to them when they are full. Shame OpenTable, shame.
That was probably the worst dinner in my life. Everything we have ordered ( for 4 people) was massively overcooked, and hardly warm. Yes, and the service was very slow. We used to love this place, but not anymore.
Used to to here a lot
Food has gone downhill - all had to go back as it was served cold - will not return
The Orange Tree is one of my locals and I’m never let down whether I attend for drinks or dinner. The staff are welcoming, polite and the ambience is just right. The Orange Tree is a great country pub no matter the occasion.
Food is no-frills but in line with expectations of a busy pub. First of all the waiter forgot our olive platter. We then had scallops to start, which were fine but were also immersed in a pointless sea of soggy oily breadcrumbs. Afterwards my wife had a very good Sunday lunch platter. I mistakenly ordered stir-fired (luke-warm) beef which arrived atop a rather chunky salad, all swimming in pungent dressing. Ingredients were all good, but not very well used. The floor was dirty, and there was what looked like a crushed chicked nugget under the adjoining table. Clearly no one goes round keeping the place clean and tidy on a busy day.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere... Great food... Brilliant staff...
The food was quite nice, worth a return visit. The service wasn’t great, but the staff were quite young and I imagine rather inexperienced. They were kind but forgot a few things. We will give them another chance soon as it’s local.
Wonderful helpful and polite staff, the food is great but a little expensive. Service a little slow at busy times but overall a lovely place for a leisurely lunch or dinner.
Took us parents for a Sunday lunch, the food and service are always good! Lovely pub and dog-friendly too!
Had a relaxed evening. Good atmosphere and food. Friendly staff and a downstairs disabled loo for my husband. Reasonably priced. Feels more like a restaurant than a neighbourhood pub. ALl good.
We never got to try the restaurant as they phoned on friday night to say that they could not seat us at the time booked which meant we were left with nowhere to go due to open table not having the correct times on the web site.
This was very upsetting as it left us with nowhere to eat on the SATURDAY NIGHT
Such a busy friendly place. Staff are always happy and friendly. Food is always good. I would recommend.
Ordered a burger - it came raw in the middle and I sent it back because I'm currently pregnant and didn't want to risk undercooked beef. The waitress was happy to sort it out no problem but it took so long to bring it out my friend had completely finished her meal before mine arrived. When it did come back it had clearly been sat under a heat lamp for a while as the bun was crispy on top and the rest only lukewarm. Considering the price of £16.50 for a burger and chips, I definitely thought it wasn't worth it.
Fantastic food and great choices on the menu. The restaurant itself is really nice and has a great atmosphere. The service was a little slow at times but they were very busy. Overall though it was a great experience.
Always enjoyable food and lively surroundings. The service can vary but on this occasion it was pretty good. Pretty good value.
Sunday lunch always good. Good choice on kids’ menu. Cosy atmosphere.
Have visited the orange tree for many years and have always enjoyed my visit
Food is fine; service is almost always poor. Polite enough but slow and disorganised.
The food was good but the pea base to my lobster fish cakes was so overwhelming that I couldn’t taste the lobster and crab! We also asked for drinks when our meal was served and yet they did not arrived until I asked again. They eventually arrived as I’d finished my meal. Unfortunately, the tops of the strawberries had not been removed from the dessert (although it was delicious!). It looked pretty but was an annoyance!
Great Sunday menu, brilliant staff.
Closed kitchen early without telling customers so we were offered no desserts! Ordering food was a nightmare and it was ok when we got it. Eating outside was nice as it was a hot night
Slowly becoming my local of choice
The food was great and the ambiance was good - not too noisy.
Lovely food good quality clean
Great food and lovely staff.
It was okay nothing special
Go often to the Orange Tree its a nice atnosphere and the good car park is ideal for people with mobility problems.
Another disappointing dinner at The Orange Tree booked via Opentable...all topped off with them refusing to take my Opentable Dining cheque even though they should have taken it - just fobbed off with “We don’t take cheques”!!!
What complete rubbish!!
It again confirms to me that I should just avoid dining or drinking here and go somewhere else that cares about your custom. Am also very frustrated with Opentable on this too!
Another very pleasant lunch, excellent service, attentive but not intrusive.
Lovely food and service
The service is never good here, and the food is so basic. They benefit from a great location and the fact that there are not much good restaurant in this affluent area. They simply do not bother about the service.
