About this restaurant

  • Good for groups
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for business meals
Zagat rated "The Oxford" as one of the 11 Hottest Restaurants and Bars in the South Bay in July 2016. Also, Modern Luxury Silicon Valley has listed Oxford in "The 10 Most Exciting New Restaurants" in Silicon Valley.

The Oxford is inspired by the eclectic, energetic verve of the streets of London. Picture a lively marketplace in London with the enticing flavors and aromas of the Middle East, Southeast Asia, India and the United Kingdom. The Oxford serves up all of that – and more – in one fun, relaxed gastropub.

Kick back with our original cocktails, which change seasonally. Or a classic libation. Or a range of wines and beers, including half a dozen on tap.

Neither Gastro nor Pub. Mediocre food across the board. Pears and cucumbers in a salad should be peeled and sliced, not served in large chunks among bland lettuces and bland dressing. Generic crab cakes. The Shepard's pie needed more meat and more pepper/flavor in general. Short list of mass produced wines. The team here should go up to the Cavalier in SF and try the whole menu before trying to salvage their business. I'd rather go to Brittania Arms for cheaper British-y bar food than this soulless place.

Part British pub, part cosmopolitan Bay Area eatery, we enjoyed a nice variety of appetizer, salad and entree of traditional fish & chips. Really good beer, too. Seemed oddly dead for a Friday night. And could have been a greater variety of beer, English or otherwise.

We had a group of 6. While the restaurant was busy in one of the rooms, there weren't many in the room where we were seated. The service was slow, the food was not great. Not horrible, but not great.

The food was excellent and the staff made us, especially me, feel special. They were open on Christmas Eve, which was a pleasant surprise! Thanks for acknowledging my birthday!

It was nice, the food was great and I loved the atmosphere. However, made a red for 9pm (they close at 10). As soon as we got there they were talking about last call, etc. seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Saw them turn several parties away around 9:25-9:30. We left just before 10, felt like they wanted to walk out at 10pm. I am guessing there was not an owner present. They shouldn’t accept reservations past 8:00 or 8:30 if that is the attitude about closing. I will go back, but not on the later side. PS for some reason this res had my wife’s name and my number, so while this review says it is by Jennifer, it is actually Robert.

Met a group of work friends here to have a few drinks and enjoy some appetizers. The staff were accommodating, friendly and attentive, and the drinks and food were delicious. Most importantly, It was a fun evening, and so we will likely be back!

FAQs

Warm, relaxed gastropub with British influences and a modern Bay Area twist. Guests describe a comfortable, slightly upscale pub atmosphere with good beer and cocktail programs, breezy patio seating, and friendly staff. The space accommodates conversation, it isn’t overly noisy, making it good for casual dinners, small celebrations, and relaxed drinks with friends.

Yes, guests report the team is accommodating (resolving OpenTable glitches, seating groups, acknowledging birthdays), so calling ahead is the best way to arrange special requests like dietary needs, birthday acknowledgements, group seating, or patio seating. The restaurant doesn’t list a formal special-requests policy, so speak with the host or manager when you reserve.

Yes, The Oxford Kitchen & Gastropub is a solid choice for date night. Guests describe a relaxed, slightly upscale gastropub vibe with quieter table areas, a pleasant patio on Murphy Avenue, and attentive staff that make celebrations feel special. The cocktail program and beer selection add to a cozy evening out. For a more intimate feel, aim for an earlier dinner seating rather than very late when staff begin closing routines.

Dinner service, especially weekend evenings, tends to be the busiest time, though some guests reported surprisingly quiet Friday nights. Weekday lunches and earlier dinner seating are generally quieter. Because the restaurant closes relatively early (9:30 PM), late-night visits can feel rushed or less settled, so plan earlier for a more relaxed experience.

Possibly on select holidays, guests reported the restaurant was open on Christmas Eve, but there’s no comprehensive holiday schedule provided. Because holiday hours can vary, call ahead to confirm whether they’ll be open on a specific public holiday and whether they offer a special menu or adjusted hours.

Casual dress is the stated dress code. Guests typically visit in relaxed attire, which matches the gastropub dining style, comfortable but neat is appropriate for dinner, drinks, or a casual celebration.

Yes, The Oxford has outdoor patio seating on Murphy Avenue’s pedestrianized stretch. Guests enjoyed sitting outside on sunny afternoons, though outdoor seating can be exposed to weather elements (one guest noted wind and pollen on the patio). If you prefer outdoor seating, request a patio table when you reserve.

The Oxford offers indoor dining with multiple dining areas and an outdoor patio on Murphy Avenue. Guests describe distinct rooms (one busy while another was quiet) and an attractive pedestrian-street patio that’s pleasant on sunny days. The restaurant does not list private dining rooms for hire, so for larger group needs call ahead to confirm seating arrangements.

If you want a livelier evening, weekend nights are the most energetic; if you prefer a quieter, more relaxed meal, choose a weekday (or earlier evening). Guests who wanted a calm conversation or attentive service found weekdays and earlier dinner times the most pleasant, while weekend visits are better for a more social or bustling night out.

Portions are what you’d expect from a gastropub, moderately generous mains and shareable small plates. Lunch and dinner menus include bowls, sandwiches served with fries, and full entrees (steak & chips, fish & chips, gnocchi), which guests describe as satisfying for an entrée. There’s also a kids section for smaller appetites. If you’re sharing, order a couple of small plates and a main to sample a variety.
