The Refuge Steakhouse & Bourbon Bar
with Wild Mushroom and Braised Chard
New York Strip
We had a blast. Sat outside and guy playing guitar was GREAT! Last bottle of wine was awesome, picked for us from manager when they were out of bottle we wanted. Great service!!!! Will be back, MANY TIMES OVER!!
Always a great place to go for a nice steak and drink. Laid back atmosphere
Really do not want to write a review as I feel like it might have been a isolated occasion we experienced and I most likely will return to Refuge again..
First time eating here. Amazing flavors. One of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten.
Super helpful and friendly staff! The ambience is nice and cozy. We also loved the food we ordered.
Good first experience at Refuge Steakhouse and Bourbon Bar. The food was very good and the bourbon selection was outstanding. We sat outside on a beautiful night which was great but it was VERY loud and hard to hear even at our small table. Still, solid overall experience and we will be back for sure!
Enjoyed dinner. Appetizers and drinks were great! My steak was over cooked but did have good flavor and roasted Brussels sprouts were , more burnt than roasted. Overall we enjoyed the evening
We loved everything about the restaurant. Everything there is amazing! Next time we will order the bottle of wine earlier (as soon as we sit), because the last 2 times we ate here, our bottle of wine came out after our food.
Otherwise, everything about Refuge is great! We will definitely go back!
Our first time there. The ambiance is wonderful. We found the food to be excellent. A bit pricey, but that's what should be expected from a high-end restaurant. Overall very satisfied and will definitely be back.
Knowledgeable staff, nice menu choices, and great service. Loved it.
Great time for happy hour
Excellent Service, Delicious Food!! Highly recommended!!
52! Bday and they made it an wonderful night and great memory. Great food and better service. Will be back. The redfish was awesome. Best smoked bourbon bar. Loved the drinks.
First time to visit, but owner and staff made my wife and I feel as if we were VIP. Definitely will return!
My fiancé & I had a date night here. Our server was great, & food was excellent.
We enjoyed the outdoor facility. While it is adjacent to other buildings, our table was nice. The food was excellent. My steak, and particularly my wife's, we cooked to perfection. We both enjoyed the sides, the bread and the wine. We'll be going back soon.
My husband and I dined here for my husband’s birthday. The restaurant was quiet and not at all packed. We were seated right away, given our choice of table. The servers had masks on. The server greeted us quickly and offered us menus, or use of the QR code’s. He was helpful with recommendations but didn’t overreach. My husband ordered an old-fashioned and the pork chop, and I ordered the Mariposa cocktail and the snapper with the lump crab. Both were delicious, filling and rich. We would recommend both dishes. I also ordered a side of cauliflower gratin, and the first one brought to us was only room temperature. The server quickly remedied this, and ordered a fresh one which came out hot. The second beverages we ordered-a beer and a wine-took a while to come out. As a surprise, the server had a banana bread pudding made and served it to us tableside, in honor of his birthday. It was a nice surprise. Overall the dining experience was a wonderful one!
Absolutely great night. 6 of us. 4 bourbon tasters. We shared several flights (several recommended by Sean our waiter) rated and recorded as we tasted. Sean kept the delish fresh toasted bread coming while we dallied tasting service was superb. One gigantic pork chop, 1 filet, 1 steak salad 3 rib eyes, all cooked perfectly and excellent quality. A little pricey but well worth it
As always, it was delicious. Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious gluten free options too!
Service was okay, would hate to see if they were full capacity
Reviews raved about it, but my boyfriend and I didn’t see what they were talking about. The decor and waitstaff were fantastic, but the food is not worth the price.
Everything was amazing!!! We started with the pork belly 3 ways and I had the French cut lamb chops. Delicious! Beautiful restaurant and our server Octavio (think I spelled it right) was wonderful.
I don’t do many reviews but because of the price we paid for this birthday dinner, I felt I should! I really appreciate the Owner for accommodating our reservations and the environment was nice; but we were extremely underwhelmed with the food. It wasn’t that it was not hot/fresh or under temperatured; but it lacked flavor and seasoning. I selected this place based on the reviews but they were not accurate! My friend dined inside and they had to send their burger back 3 times because they kept bringing it out rare instead of well done. My sons steak was also supposed to be medium well but came out medium rare!! And for the price, we were very disappointed! Also, they don’t serve A1 steak sauce(weird) but advised us they make a homemade steak sauce(they said we received the last of it because they ran out). First off, A1 steak sauce is a normal ask in every steakhouse we’ve visited and a homemade sauce isn’t a bad idea; but theirs tasted like ketchup and some sort of spice and sweetness mixed together. How do you run out of something you make in house? We’ve dined at several steakhouses such as Del Friscos, Fogo De Chao(we go here and Saltgrass the most), Salt Grass and Pappas Steakhouse but wanted to try and support a small business; and try something close to home! While we enjoyed the atmosphere, for the price of the food we struck out big time. ☹️
Good atmosphere. Nice tables and area. Slow service especially from the bar. Food was pretty good.
Great Whiskey selection and perfect for intimate special occasions
First fine dining outing since COVID. This is our go to date night venue. It never disappoints. We weren’t ready to dine indoors in our fave cozy booth/sofa seat so opted to eat outside. There was plenty of well spaced seating for all out that night. Their drink list is amazing and all were great and reasonably priced for their uniqueness and potency.
Probably some of the best drinks I’ve had and I’ve been to many nice bars, lounges and restaurants in Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, NY, Las Vegas and various other spots around country and world. I’ve also been bartender on and off. Some bold combos but an adventure to say the least. Bourbon forward menu to be sure but my wife, who appreciates but doesn’t gravitate to the stuff, loves their offerings too.
Shrimp and grits (we always get) were satisfying and rich. The fried green tomatoes were thicker than usual but still cooked beautifully and balanced with extra nice dollop of goat cheese. We were welcomed with a seafood trio, compliments of house, which included well cooked tender bacon wrapped scallops, meaty crab cakes and beer batter tempura styled shrimp.
We had a great server. The only thing that might have been better was if it were cooler. They can’t control the warm still night but a swamp cooler or fan might have been nice. May try to coax others in family to join us.
Zu did an excellent job as our server while pacing the night as expected and desired.
We had a great time. The waiter was efficient and knowledgeable. Food was really good. It was louder than I’d like but still acceptable.
Excellent food and drink. The steaks were perfect, the calamari and sides were great too.
The filet was very salty. The whiskey selection, decor, and staff were excellent.
This was our second trip to this establishment and has been outstanding each time. Highly recommend it to anyone.
Food and service were fantastic. Great drink, wine, and beer menu. Great selection of extremely good bourbon.
We went there for our parents anniversary and as usual they knocked it out of the park. Servers were both attentive and helpful with food and bourbon questions. Always enjoy going there whether with family or friends.
Perfect night out. Music on the patio. Weather was amazing. Food was amazing and service was outstanding.
Food was fantastic and the staff was attentive and not overly burdensome. The Ribeye was DELISH!!!!! We will be back for sure.
The food was great and the service! We are looking forward to our next dinner with our friends. Thank you.
One of my favorite places to dine in The Woodlands. Great food, friendly staff.
Great experience! We love going to The Refuge! Service and food are always amazing!
We went here for our anniversary and our server, Kerris, was a GEM! Very attentive and guided us through some drink selections as we are not bourbon afficianados. The steak was amazing as was the sauteed spinach and the chili green beans. They gifted us a lovely banana bread pudding and ice cream. Our ONLY complaint the whole night was another guest was several tables away, but on his cell phone with it on speaker. We could hear the whole conversation and it was incredibly rude. We mentioned it to the wait staff and would have hoped they would have asked him to take it outside or take it off speaker and speak with normal volume. Outside of that rudeness, we had a wonderful time.
We love their handcrafted cocktails and the food never disappoints.
