I would come back to try other items on menu. The Smith Burger I ordered was prepared as requested and very tasty.
They got my order wrong. The waiter was inattentive. To be fair much of this may have been due to the pandemic. As with many restaurants they were understaffed.
Went for the caps game. Had a reservation but no one sat us. Was eventually put at a long high top table in the bar area. Only one server for the whole bar (felt bad for him). Drinks were late and my drink was incorrect. Won’t go back for a pregame dinner again.
Understanding the pandemic has done a number on staffing the wait staff could use some help. Too many people not enough staff. Our person was excellent when we arrived but as the crowd increased he was overwhelmed - not his fault just too many tables.
Great pre hockey dinner and drinks. Great food and service!
We were there on a Caps game night with a 5:00 pm reservation. We had 4 different servers, which became confusing. Drinks, including iced tea, took a very long time. Food service was quicker. The food was very good but the service was lacking.
I came for a 3-course dinner in the bar section. My oyster appetizer came out only after I told the food runner bringing my dinner that it had not yet arrived. This is after the server told someone to check on it multiple times. Once I informed the runner, she brought it right out, so it was obviously ready to be served prior to me saying anything. Then again during dessert, the server had to ask someone to check on my order, which again immediately came out. The server/bartender was very attentive, but there was definitely a lack of attention between the kitchen and dining area.
great service and the food choices were awesome and unique. Very NYC vibe with the indoor outdoor feel.
Brunch food was okay but service was terrible. Waiter forgot about us for long stretches. Tallied check incorrectly. Do not recommend.
Brunch was great. Latte/coffee were very good. Accommodated kids as well! Would definitely go back.
Very different than I was expecting but in a good way. Had one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had with their Spaghetti Bolognese. My wife got Shrimp and Grits. Grits were very creamy and the shrimp cooked perfectly. Will definitely be back!
Excellent food. Timing was a little off but they handled it perfectly.
Service is leisurely, kitchen missed delivery of several times.
First time eating here for brunch. The staff were phenomenal. The food was wonderful. Ate alone and had a wonderful time. Definitely worth eating here for brunch. The french toast, home fries, apple bacon, egg white omelet are excellent!
Was very busy but server worked with our special dietary needs.
Exceptionally fresh & flavorful food. Safe outdoor seating, too.
Average steak. Ok service but probably we were there too early.
Not sure I would return as better options for the money and the steak cooking was so so.
Excellent all the way around.
I love The Smith, and highly recommend the spicy salmon tartare appetizer. Very tasty cocktails as well.
We were traveling through Washington and looking for a place to eat. This fit the bill. Varied menu, reasonable prices for the city, indoor/outdoor dining, not too loud. We had the fresh roasted tomato soup, a Mediterranean salad, a Caesar salad and a salmon entree. All were very good, hot and served promptly although it was rather empty for a Sunday night. The tomato soup was prepared like onion soup with a slice of good bread at the bottom and melted cheese on top. Delicious! Service was good but a little inattentive by the main server.
Everything was great, just wish they hadn’t run out of some food options.
Service was a bit slow and it took awhile to get the check after asking. We were able to sit outside which was nice, inside seemed a little loud. The food was great! Something on the menu for everyone.
Good ambience with the doors open on a beautiful Fall day. Food was good. Portions look deceptively small but are very filling. Service hit the right note of attentive without being annoying or feeling like we were being hurried to free the table. Felt COVID safe with sanitizer, separated tables, and masks.. Thoroughly enjoyable brunch.
Our server JP was absolutely THE BEST. Service was prompt and professional. Food, cocktails and atmosphere exceeded our expectations for a special joint 59 and 60th birthday dinner. The filet mignon was perfect as was the pasta and seafood entree. An absolute “DO AGAIN”.
Our server Murat was great. The desserts were amazing. We ordered the sticky toffee and the s’mores in a jar and my kids loved it.
I took a large group to the Smith. We enjoyed our time, however we had to ask for service multiple times. Also once we ordered, we were informed that they were out of multiple types of steak without being clear which ones they were out of. So one member of my group got a NY Strip instead of a ribeye without being informed. Other members who requested steak on their salad ended up receiving chicken.
Smaller portions for the price and the service was very SLOW. Also brought me the wrong drink.
Although the food was very good, we waited over 50 minutes for our dinner and it wasn’t very busy.
Ambiance was good, everyone was accommodating and pleasant. Server was nice, however not very attentive to our needs. We had to go get her a few times to request refills etc. This seems to be a trend with all of the Smith restaurants we’ve been to lately but we are hoping they’re isolated incidences
Food was great but the sever never came back to check on us. Would’ve ordered more drinks if he had.
Came here for brunch with a friend, second visit. Overall service was slow but the waitress was nice. They seemed to run out of some items for brunch…for example, no Bellinis, no special coffee orders just plain coffee. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and it was decent. Small portion, the shoestring potatoes were unnecessary, the baked eggs were not good (I took them off). Might return later…I know COVID has taken a toll on restaurants and has impacted service.
Pathetic. No coffee drinks. No maple syrup they brought honey saying it’s syrup. Very strange
The restaurant was very clean. The service was impeccable and the food was too! My first but NOT my last visit and we brought guest from out of town who want to come back just for this brunch. And the "75 Slushie".
We came to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Had been looking forward to it for weeks. The hostess group greeted us in Avery pleasant manner. The weather outside was nice so all the side window doors were open. There was an incredible festive vibe throughout the restaurant. Our drinks and appetizers were served right away. The entrees however took longer than one would want. They finally show up and everything g is cold. We only sent one dish back, kept 2 because it would have taken another 40 minutes to redo.
The manager apologized and did not charge us for our entrees. That was an acceptable gesture. So, somewhat disappointing but I guess on a less crowded day things might have turned out better. The food was good which is why we would give it another chance to get the service fixed.
The staff seemed a tad new and in need of some more training and/or experience. That’s expected these days but it was quite noticeable. At one point we were asked if we would move tables because they had been planning to save the area we were in for a larger party. The hostess maybe realized that was a big ask given we were comfortable where we were and had made a reservation so she ended up not pushing the situation. The steak was very good. The fries were crisp but lacked flavor. We had a very nice bottle of wine. We finished with the cookies which were warm and generally good. All in all, it was nice but there were a few bumps. I hope those will be ironed out.
I received an email from OpenTable that I did not show up for the reservation. This is incorrect. I was seated at the time of my reservation at 5:30pm on 9/25/21 with my guests. Please let the restaurant, The Smith, know that they need to update their system. Thank you.
Always a great time at The Smith! The food, drinks and company was great!
A great outdoor lunch spot in DC!
Excellent service, great drinks and delicious food
I was disappointed that the Sunday night special was not available even at 6:30 pm. My friends had to make several different choices because what they wanted wasn't available. I understand shortages of items, but those could have been communicated in advance. The servers were very nice, but slow - it took a very long time to finally get our check. I will be back, but will manage my expectations.
