From hanging glass beads to architectural artifacts and an original Brunswick bar painted in gold and turquoise, this is clearly not your father's steakhouse. The Tavern's menu features USDA prime beef, Australian Wagyu, organically raised Uruguayan beef, and organic free-range chicken, diver-caught Maine sea scallops, assorted fresh fish, cold water Rock Lobster Tails, and in season: oysters from both coasts, the Alaskan king salmon run, live Maryland soft shell crabs, morels, chanterelles, and porcini from hunters in Oregon and Washington, and fresh produce from local county farms. An award-winning wine list featuring over 1,200 selections, a great wine by the glass assortment, and an unusually well-stocked bar round out the Tavern's beverage program.

Went for local anniversary dinner. Went for steaks. Both over cooked. Asked for Medium plus. Both can out well done. Returned wife’s filet and I ate my NY steak. Returned 5 min with new steak raw. Third time was the charm. Finished with meal when the third time filet showed up. Wife full from lobster tail that she also ordered and sides. I wound up eating most of her filet. They did bye us our dessert. Appetizers and sides and dessert really good. Just wouldn’t go back for steaks. Try there fish or other menu items. Server was very sweet.
Poor service, tough calimari, could not send it back because the waitress was nowhere to be found. Steak was a great piece of meat, but was flavorless. Lobster was fine. Pasta was just ok. French onion soup was good.
First time we have been back to eat at the Tavern since 2008. Relocated here from San Diego and the food was superb! Highly recommend eating at the Tavern.
Brought friends that have never been, they loved it!
Being a steakhouse of course it's expensive - just make sure you stick to the steaks. Of the four in our party one had fish, two had the duck, and one had the more expensive prime filet. At least one out of the four was really good. While the filet was excellent, the duck was cooked too long, and the fish was completely overcooked, dry, and its sauce tasteless.
The wine list was extraordinarily huge - and very pricy as well but there were some good values.
There are much better places to drop this kind of money.
The Tavern is incredible. Food was amazing, atmosphere dark and inviting, the service was perfect. I’d go every night!
The food and service was wonderful. I felt like I was in a fine dining restaurant whiteout being stuffy. Been saying I want to try The Tavern for years and I am glad I finally did, and sorry I didn't sooner.
We had a 7:00 reservation on a Saturday night. We showed up at 7:00 and we were seated immediately. The decor is somewhat eclectic but nicely done. Our waitress was friendly. There were a lot of choices on regular menu and the specials menu. I had the steak and lobster which was very good!
The ambiance, food and service were excellent. I love their organic tonic water in my vodka & tonics. The seasonal soft shell crab and my scallops entre were excellent.
Probably our worst experience with a restaurant. When we got there, we got a nice dish of bread, spread and butter. My wife dug in and ate a piece with the spread and I go in for a piece and my bread has a swarm of ants crawling all over it and I immediately tell my wife to stop eating! We get the waiter's assistant attention and he immediately takes our bread and dishes away. Our waitress was amazing and apologized for the incident. She is pretty much why we are not giving this a 1 star review. As we wait for the manager to come out and talk with us and apologize for the incident (one that I don't think should go lightly, especially since my pregnant wife just ate some bread that was with a piece that had ants all of it). We decided to stay for some reason and continue to give it a chance. The entrees were great, but we still couldn't shake off the incident earlier and how the manager was still refusing to address the problem directly. We eventually asked the waitress if she had talked to the manager about the issue earlier.. maybe he just wasn't aware? Nope, she said he was aware as soon as it happened.. hmm.... Turns out the manager has been the guy helping with small stuff at the tables and entrance, walking back and forth by us all night, and even took our desert order.. and he STILL refused to address the situation and apologize for the incident. What kind of management is that?? So I had to grab his attention as he walked by one last time and talk to him about the issue.. he pretty much said that he had confidence in his waitress taking care of the situation and make sure it was a localized issue. Okay, the waitress did her part.. but still I would assume as a MANAGER and an incident like ours, that is YOUR job as well to come to the consumer and address the problem. Why should we even have to tell him that?! He should know better. We payed $30+ each for our entrees and we expected way better of an experience. Pretty unreal.
They had a table waiting for us... we sat right down. We had drinks within minutes and the service was OUTSTANDING! The food was delicious and they even surprised us with desert for my friend’s birthday! Just amazing!
This is a hometown favorite of ours but we only seem to get there a couple of times a year. It never disappoints. Great food, wine, service and intimate dining.
2nd time here....service was a little off this time. Forgot my wife's lobster tail...we were pretty much finished with dinner when it arrived, wife said it was overcooked. That said they did the right thing and did not charge us for it. Also brought wrong wine...it happens. Once we got the right bottle it was outstanding and reasonably priced given typical markup. Still not as good a experience as our 1st time here, but not bad enough to avoid. I get the sense they were just understaffed this weeknight.
Food was fabulous....service was great....our new favorite restaurant👍🏻
Definitely the best steak and seafood around; and the service is fantastic!
Had dinner on Saturday night 8/4. Great atmosphere and cool vibe. We ate upstairs. My wife ordered the fillet and I ordered the NY strip and they cooked my steak like my wife wanted and cooked hers how I wanted. We did not say anything. Upon finishing our meal the waitress noticed how our steaks were cooked and apologized. When she gave us the bill she mentioned about the steaks being cooked wrong and reduced our bill by a 1/3. I thought the gesture was very nice. We will definitely come back for a few reasons. The biggest one being how they handled the situation with our steaks.
Awesome as usual ;-)
Great steak, best in Lake County by far. Great service
Amazing meal! Enjoyed it as we always do. Highly recommend the Parmesan potatoes.
My hubby and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. We were blown away by the intrinsic and eclectic ambiance! Our waitress was Victoria and she was the most friendliest and welcoming waitress we had in a long time. She helped me make my final decision to order the duck or a steak.🤔 Well, since we were at a Steakhouse, it only made sense to get a steak! It was made to order like its name was "unicorn majestic perfection" with a decadent blue cheese crust! WOW!! Talk about mouthwatering 🤤. From entering the establishment, we were greeted by the bar tender, the host, our amazing waitress Victoria and the Busmen(they were extremely awesome as well)!A 5 point 10 stars Tavern! Thanks for the experience and service, your staff are top notch!
They bought our first round because it was our anniversary.
Excellent food. Ran out of Rombauer Chardonnay - no clear alternatives. Ordered 1/2 bottle of 2011 Kistler and it had turned - changed to Frog’s Leap Chardonnay and it was ok. Need better CA white wine list. Halibut entree was superb.
Love coming here. The food is outstanding. The service is always top notch. Highly recommend this place!!!
The bartender was sarcastic and arrogant, the opposite of what you want a bartender to be, he was like a wet blanket on our party of four. We spent over $300 for dinner and the service (waitress specifically) was just average to "ok" and the food was good, but nowhere near great. The price is high-end (expensive). I don't mind paying for premium service and food, but I do not like paying for excellence and receiving poor to average service and just good food. Cost doesn't equal the value. Overall, we were hoping for more, which is what we paid for...
Have dined at Tavern often over the past decades. Always consistent quality. I would like to see them over a small side salad included in the entrees. Service always professional and friendly. You feel like your at home.
The food was amazing and the service was great! We will definitely be going back!
We went here for our family celebration of my son's HS graduation. Thankfully, we made early reservations, because by 8 PM, our small table of 4 couldn't hear each other. We all had seafood--the scallops were superb; the sockeye salmon was good, but the sauce overwhelmed the flavor of the fish; the blue crabs were ok, we've had much better; the linguine with seafood had a nice mix of seafood, but bland. We added some brussel sprouts and asparagus as sides, which were good. The teen boys loved the tiramisu and cheesecake, which tasted fine (nothing special). Overall, we had a nice experience, but I was underwhelmed for the price tag (>$325).
I absolutely adore the atmosphere of Tavern. We dined there Friday night and had a wonderful time. Our server was excellent. To start we had the beef carpaccio and caviar potato chips. None of us really cared for the carpaccio as it was heavily smoked and rather tough. The caviar potato chips were okay but nothing great. For the entrees we had the angel hair pasta dish, ribeye, Allen Brothers filet, and the soft shell crab entree. I love soft shell crab but have to admit this one was very greasy. Probably would not order that again. The side dishes of mushrooms and creamed spinach were excellent. The fried brussel sprouts were also greasy and a little overdone. All-in-all I absolutely would return to this restaurant but just do a little better job of ordering. You can never go wrong with the steak.
One of the best meals we’ve had locally! Excellent service. Will definitely be back and hoping sooner than later!!
all the dishes are very good. the pork chop was amazing. My husband is on a pork chop evaluation tour.. he said this is the best he's had in not just Illinois, but new York, south beach, las vegas and California.
it was amazing...
This is suppose to be a high end suburban steak house. The overall service was horrible (even though we did enjoy our waitress), as non on the issues were her fault) and the food was decent at best; not of the quality you would expect from a restaurant of this reputation for fine food!
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion!
We have gone to The Tavern over the last few years and most recently went for our anniversary. It was better than ever! The attentive staff, the beautiful and eclectic decor and a menu filled with wonderful selections. My husband had the bone-in ribeye which rivaled those from the best Chicago steak houses. The seafood options we had for appetizers and my entree were outstanding. We highly recommend The Tavern; you will not be disappointed.
Absolutely top notch service and food. We took our fresh out of US Navy bootcamp sailor there for dinner and the staff treated him like royalty. The atmosphere was wonderful and decor beautiful. Somehow the food was even better. Our server Rachel was great, friendly and on top of our every need. One of the best memories we will ever have, can't thank The Tavern enough for the service and respect we received.
Victoria our server was excellent, we never felt rushed and she was professional, courteous, friendly and did a great job explaining things we had questions regarding. She is an asset to your establishment.
Tavern never misses and when they do they make it right (the waiter, no manager required). It's pricey, but its an excellent special occasion treat. Food, service and setting is wonderful.
While the upstairs dining room of Tavern is not handicapped accessible, for those who can make the climb the food and setting are worth it. Wonderful service, excellent food, unrushed, conversational atmosphere are great accompaniments to delightful cuisine. My mussel appetizer provided more than enough for two. Simply prepared, the mussels were perfectly cooked, tender and tasty. My seasonally available soft-shelled crabs were, again, perfectly prepared. Lightly sauteed with a delightful sauce, they were a taste sensation. My guest's steak, the small filet, was perfectly cooked, simply prepared and very tasty. We shared the sauteed spinach which had mushrooms and onions mixed in. The Tavern's creme brulee is creamy with fresh fruit mixed into the serving. All in all, Tavern is a delight which I will enjoy again and again.
The wait staff was exceptional. Food was great. Not rushed out.
Always a delicious meal and nice excuse to get dressed up.
Service was excellent, my surf and turf was great, my husbands duck was overlooked and therefore dry. Appetizers and dessert were good
