About this restaurant

  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Grounded in its home setting, the original 1890s saloon, and dining hall, The Western Saloon & Grill is a precursor to the classic steakhouse. It brings a farm-to-fire approach that honors time, place, and purpose, including the farms and ranches of the Western Slope. Built around a generous wood hearth that came to be renowned in the West, the restaurant uses nature as a guide and creates space for guests to slow down, connect, and make memories.

Remarkable tableside preparations, vintage cocktails, and friendly small-town hospitality allow guests to focus on going home with an authentic charming story, safely removed from the ordinary.

Over an hour to get our food even with a reservation and they comped the person right next to us for the wait but not us… wild experience, mediocre food, expensive.

We experience Ouray, CO about twice a year and this is always our go to restaurant for craft cocktails and amazingly crafted meals. The melon arugula salad was exceptional that had balanced flavors and the perfected cooked sirloin with molasses sauce was the best. Kelly is always smiling and helpful and the staff is knowledgeable and positive.

Our entrees were just ok and we hardly touched our appetizer. For being touted as a really good fine dining experience, we were under impressed. The menu was small which typically means everything will be exceptional, but it was our least favorite dining experience in Ouray. The atmosphere was really nice, but the music didn’t match the aesthetic. It sounded like foreign ethnic music but the aesthetic was western. It didn’t go together. We wouldn’t dine there twice.

Our food was better than it’s been for a while. Service was good enough. We waited 35 min to get our mains. Because they are so expensive we didn’t get a starter. Drinks and the atmosphere are reliably good.

Rudy, our waiter, and his team made our night super special. Rudy is a gifted waiter and made sure all our food and drinks arrived in the order we specifically requested. He kept an eye out for us the whole night. The food, cocktails, wine, the ambience, all of it was top notch and is one of our favorite spots in the west. We've been here twice and both times - perfect. We also met the chefs and staff and everyone was super welcoming. Thanks and we'll be back... perhaps tonight!

tomahawk beef for 2 was good but pricey. agnolotti was bland. servicer was very good. employee service fee of 5% noted on menu but added to invoice as tax so you don't see this fee on bill. this is not legal in Colorado now and should be listed separately. We have no issue with living wage fee just how listed as tax. Mentioned to front desk and got rude response.
