Simply awful. We waited half an hour for a table despite having a reservation. Once we were seated, it took another half hour for anyone to take our order. First course arrived 20 mins later. Second course, another half hour. Prix fixe prices were exorbitant for such a poor experience.

In spite of having a 730 reservation, I was offered either a seat at the bar or in the hotel lobby/lounge. Part of why I went to Villon was for the beautiful interior. I chose to sit at the bar first, but the wind was so cold blowing in from the patio, that I asked to be seated somewhere else.

They put me in the lounge/hotel lobby. There were other people seated in this area, but I'm not sure they had reservations. I had two options for seats. I chair facing the elevator and concierge desk, or a too low lounge chair facing the hostess desk. Disappointment number one.

The service was INCREDIBLY SLOW. People seated after me in the lounge received their meals/drinks before me. I finally had to ask the hostess if I even had a waiter...
The waiter finally arrived and told me he thought someone else was serving me... poor communication at best by the staff. DISAPPOINTMENT number 2.

Finally placed my order... my starter arrived nearly an hour after I arrived at the restaurant. The food was outstanding, and that's the only reason I didn't give a one-star review overall. I ordered the wine flights with the meal, and when my main course was finally served - there were long waits between courses - I had to wait for at least 5 minutes for the paired wine to be delivered. I sat there with a small glass of warm tap water waiting for the wine pairing. Bad... bad... bad...

At the end of the meal, my plates were cleared in a timely manner, but I then waited 20 minutes at a completely cleared table for my check. I finally had to ask the hostess for my check. I told her about the disappointing experience, and she offered to have me speak with the manager. I declined. I just wanted out of there.

I arrived for my dinner at 730 and finally left the restaurant around 10 pm.

I was prepared to spend $200 on dinner, but it felt quite over-priced for the experience.

I probably won't ever go back, which is unfortunate because the food was exceptional.

Although not in the greatest part of town, Villon was exceptional. We had Thanksgiving dinner there and the 4-course meal could not have been more perfect and the wine pairing was spot on

The venue was very nice inside but the neighborhood you have to walk through is not.
The appetizer and entry were delivered together and that was a bit annoying but our server was very nice and the food was excellent.

This is the third time I have been to Villon and overall I would recommend the restaurant. The ambience is great..eclectic with a super cool vibe. That said the weekend menu is very limited. The menu items can appear off putting but the food itself was very good.. We did try to order champagne by the bottle but one bottle was warm and they were out of the other so maybe they should be a bit more prepared. The service started a bit slow but again, overall the waiter was attentive. I was taken aback that they wanted to seat us on the outside patio. This very cool hotel and restaurant on Market street is surrounded by homeless people; the sights and smells are not very appealing..it is like you walk into an oasis. To be frank they shouldn't even have an outside patio....I would definitely go again...but..

Very convenient location to Orpheum and Golden Gate theatres--just be prepared for the dismal Mid-Market neighborhood squalor. Staff is welcoming, brunch pleasant, especially out on patio.

We ordered waffles, polenta with braised beef, and continental breakfast with two add-ons of ($7) sausage and ($7) bacon.

My fiance didn't like the ($19) Buttermilk Waffles bc it was super syrupy and a little too wet.

The ($20) Smoke Polenta w/ braised pork was wonderful and balanced. Savory for the morning but I'm vietnamese and used to it.

($21) Continental breakfast is a staple breakfast you can't get wrong but, I wished it came with either chicken sausage or bacon as an option.

There is the 2nd option called the (24) Proper Breakfast with protein included but it had menu items we didn't want.

I also didn't ask the waiter if we could sub items for the same price. My quip at the Villon was the coffee. I ordered a latte and it was pretty bad as in super bitter.

Service was really friendly, but as they were busy and tryna get it together it's just another day for the group. When the waiter was seating us I think he was unsure where to seat us so he had us walk around the entire room just to seat us back at the entrance. They did really good with trying to check up on guest although the check took too long.

I didn't do photos of my food bc we were on a schedule. I believe all in all it's more worth it to venture the city for breakfasts but if you're there for business and need breakfast it's okay so long as your not in a rush.

THE SERVICE WAS GOOD. THE SPACE IS QUITE ATTRACTIVE, UNIQUE. THE FALLAFAL WAS PRESENTED AS A SALAD & GOOD (I DID NOT FIND ANTHING ON THE MENU THAT I APPEALED TO ME). THE LOCATION IS FULL OF THE WORST STREET PEOPLE, BUT ONCE INSIDE THE RESTAURANT IT IS AN ISLAND OF SANITY.

We all 3 ordered the falafel dish, which had lovely spices and accompanying sauce and fresh pea shoots, and wonderfully fresh and green falafel. We all agreed that the dish would be benefitted by an accompanying fresh pita bread. We ended up ordering a side of bread to go with.
The service was lovely, very professional.

On opentable it says that the reservation times on there are strictly only for afternoon tea and nothing else. Booked for 1:30, later was told tea starts at 2 pm after being seated with awkward service and vague to little attention to guests. Tea service itself was also odd and badly paced alongside good number of staff not being very attentive, adding onto an unwanted long stay with bad communication with everything. I'm sure lunch and dinner service is fine, but would not go there for tea no matter how nice of a setting it is.

Our server was absolutely terrible. Very rude. Took us 15minutes to get water and he was only serving 2 other tables… forgot to bring things we asked for and took another 20 minutes to get us attention for the check. Small dining room and it wasn’t busy so he has no excuse for the poor service.

"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."

Disappointing. Restaurant was dead, and they didn’t have my reservation in system. No music. Design of rest is always gorgeous with Kelly Wearstler’s touch but vibe was stale. Food ok, but didn’t feel fresh and squash blossoms which are always a fav weren’t seasoned well…falafel felt stale and dry and like it had been microwaved…disappointed because I usually love this spot.

We decided to grab a beverage and bite after a visit to the Asian Art Museum. An easy stroll and a great table marked the start, then a knowledgeable sommelier described wine options, and the service & food was divine.

It's always a lovely room, ambience, and service level. Thank you again!

Villon was a delightful surprise! the entire Hotel was really interesting and creative.
Our waiter was just wonderful at his job, friendly but professional - really the best I've had in a very long while. The meal was fresh, fresh, fresh. Colorful, and delicious.
I was pleasantly overwhelmed! A great spot for pre-symphony or opera or City arts and lectures (if we can ever go to those places again...)

To celebrate our friends birthdays we decided on Villon for afternoon tea. It did not disappoint. The hotel is super modern with great decor. The restaurant itself is pretty small which was fine since not many people were dining. The tea and sandwiches were delicious but the desserts were exceptional. I’d say it was a little on the pricey side for the meal but you’re also paying for ambiance. The server didn’t offer or suggest new teas so you’ll have to remember to do that so you can try their variety. My fav was the golden horse!
