Walsh Bay Kitchen
We had a beautiful pre-show meal Sat night. I would choose to do this again. Meals very high standard, served promptly. House wines good. Thank you!
We had tickets for the Ros Packer Theatre for a 7.30 performance and booked the Walsh Bay Kitchen pre-theatre dinner deal for 6.30. Our waiter was friendly and efficient, made sure we ordered, ate and finished in perfect time. Dinner was delicious, generous but not too much - no fear of falling asleep in the theatre! We would definitely do this again.
We had a play to see so we booked pre theatre. Great service. We had the truffle rice balls and the beef cheeks. Superb in every way! A glass of wine was included in the meal too! Great friendly service with perfect ambience! No need to hurry to the show, it was just upstairs!! Would definitely recommend!
We found the food very average, verging on bland. Overpriced too as you would expect I guess
have eaten at walsh bay many times as a pretheatre show - took friends along and had a very poor experience.
Too little wait staff so took 20 min to order drink adn only then by almost standing up and wavign arms around.
our pretheatre was at 6pm for 7.30 show -
3 of our party ordered teh barramundi on pretheatre menu - to be told had run out ..at 6.20pm??
side of vegetables was forgotten and eventually came after all meals had been eaten.
I only go to this restaurant when I have theatre tickets as it is part of the theatre complex. Sometimes the food is good, other times it is not good at all. Last time the fish was nice but the dessert, pannacotta, had corn flakes on the top, more like a breakfast bowl, and the texture was coarse. The staff are very pleasant but the service is poor. I have often had to remind them two or three times to bring something they have forgotten. This is not a restaurant I would recommend.
I liked the food but was disappointed that we were placed near the kitchen area and on the busy pathway that the waiters took to the bar and kitchen. As the restaurant was half empty we could have been placed away from here.
A great venue for prestos dinner.
Lunchtime menu very good with good selection. Food excellent, service efficient and friendly.
Ask for a table away from the glass door at the front of the restaurant - the continuous opening and closing (in winter) disturbs the ambience, interrupts conversation and sends a chilly blast of air over you.
The food is ok - a little overpriced, limited vegetarian options (1 x entree and 1 main). Sticky ribs were not sticky but rather dry.
Convenient location if you want to go to the Roslyn Packer Theatre for a play, with early sittings so that you can fit in dinner before the show
Had a fragrant, spicy curry with tofu and spinach. The moderate heat was calmed by the fluffy rice. Perfect for pre-theatre and the wait service was lovely.
Great to eat here before the theatre. Interesting food with an Asian twist.
Friendly, efficient staff with relatively good service of a delicious meal. We always go to Walsh Bay Kitchen restaurant when going to a play at the Roslyn Packer Theatre.
The entrees were good the main was dreadful fish over cooked in soy sauce. The Panna Cotta very ordinary also. I would not recommend or return such a shame as a great location.
Always the perfect dining spot for pre-theatre with the Sydney Theatre Company. Great food and good service.
We were going to the theatre so the food came quickly and staff were helpful and attentive.
Good food and quick pre theatre service.
service was below average. They couldn't wait til we left. It could be ok of you were seeing a show, otherwise there is no interest.
Business lunch with a colleague. Very quiet and great food.
My husband & I were having pre theatre dinner which we have had before. It works so well with seeing a show. Lovely variety in the set menu but this time my only complaint was to do with the food. My entree of mushroom wontons was actually only luke warm , I should of sent it back. My fish main was very tasty but again only warm with skin that wasn’t crispy & a bit sloppy. Atmosphere was just as lovely as last time & service very good.
I would still recommend.
Perfect for pre-theatre
Each time I go to the Roslyn Packer Theatre I go to the Walsh Bay Kitchen for lunch. I am never disappointed. As an electric wheelchair user they accommodate me easily & comfortably. Food is delicious, not expensive and the staff are friendly and efficient.
My wife's barramundi dish was tasty and can be recommended.
My Singaporean rice dish was disappointing, fairly dry, with an dryish fried egg and dry pork belly - more canine food than appropriate for a more upmarket restaurant.
We enjoyed dining at Walsh Bay Kitchen. We only eat out about once a month so it is always a real treat. My hubby got the Fried rice as a main and was a bit dissapointed as it lacked a bit of flavour or texture or something. I gave it a try and did seem a bit bland but overall we still really enjoyed the dinner and would defiantly come back again. The service was excellent.
This is perfect for a pre-theatre dinner. We had little time between work and the show and the wait staff were fabulous in accomodating us: in particular, they suggested quicker dishes and allowed us to pay at the table so we could enjoy the experience without the stress of waiting to settle the bill or missing the beginning of the show. Food was fabulous. Service was great. And the ambience was conducive to staying longer next time!
Well suited to pre-theatre dining, with menu and service well timed to theatre performances. The ambience is pleasant, though noisy for a place where people want to talk to one another. The service is generally good, though it is always a rush to get the bill settled when everyone finishes at much the same time. The food is a bit disappointing: it aims at east-west fusion, but the result is sometimes more driven by ideas and menu words than actual taste.
Great food but service was friendly but pretty slow and unreliable
Great place for pre theatre dinner. No fuss in and out. Good food and wine choices.
Given it two goes, but won’t bother again. Not enough staff!
Waited 10 minutes queued at entrance despite our booking to be seated at our table. Too much wasted time due to lack of staff, too long to place order & for table water. Waited far too long for entrees and mains arrived on our able 20 mins before the play started last night. My fish was in too much soya sauce, so salty! The mixed salad was awful, leaves a few tiny tomatoes & tasteless seaweed. Hopeless, rushed, stressful pre theatre
Excellent pre-theatre experience with delicious food served by efficient and attentive staff in a comfortable setting. Good value as well.
Entree very good.Main meal disappointing
Pre theatre menu with no gluten free options in entrees for coeliacs - and zero flexibility to change - "you have to choose the a la carte menu then". Now, if the restaurant manager was a customer with a food allergy how would they feel about what they have now fashioned as a tax on allergies?
Great service and great atmosphere. The food was also very nice, appropriately priced and a decent selection for the pre-theatre menu.
Pre-theatre dining menu. Restaurant is in the foyer so you can hear the bells calling you to go to seats which is stressful as each time we have tried this restaurant they have not been able to serve the whole menu to us before the bells begin despite us arriving 1-1.5hours pre show as requested. This time so the best so far as the restaurant was mostly empty but still we had to cancel the coffee orders that were not delivered, bolt down dessert and race for the show. Food is pricey but okay.
Perfect pre-show menu and service. Only negative, hot food a little cool.
Great for pre-dinner menu option before show at Roslyn Packer Theatre.
Efficient, friendly service staff.
Food was generally excellent though the main courses had cooled a bit by the time we got them. However they were still delicious when eaten.
Would have liked it if the dining room had still been open after the show ( which finished at 9.15 pm.) so we could have had the coffee and dessert part of the menu then.
The 2-course special pre-theatre meal was very enjoyable, served by friendly and efficient staff.
Six ordered dinner & 3 received cold food. Wine order still hadn’t been served by the time we left for the theatre. nice staff but terribly overworked in pre theatre period.
Sense that food was prepared and just warmed up for serving - meat was on tough and dried out side.
Mad rush to pay before theater start - long queue of dinners all wanting to pay at same time. Should have a system where you pay during your meal, or before your meal, so numbers are better managed before theater.
Good for pre-theatre. We were served quickly and our meals were very tasty . Would recommend this place for its vibe and food.
