About
Perfect place to dine for a pre-theatre dinner. Very conveniently located in the same building as the Roslyn Packer theatre and delicious food.
The Barramundi was hard to cut with a knife, dry and overcooked.
Had the deep blue sea special and might be up there with the worst fish and chips ever. Fish was frozen something or other with not enough taste to recognize it as sea food let alone what kind of fish. Chips were very good A good atmosphere and nice environment but the food I had makes it unlikely I will return
This was the first time we ate at Walsh Bay Kitchen, it was a pleasant surprise!
The menu was just right for what we wanted, and had a selection that I believe would have suited most taste requirements.
We had three courses and were happy with each plate.
The price was quite reasonable for the quality of food and the ambience was nice.
Had the fish & chips and chips were the best ever. Having said that would probably have liked less chips and one more piece of fish. Even with help I couldn't finish. Great for pre-theatre dining. My friend also enjoyed her meal (name escapes me -- had an egg on top) which I will probably have next time.
We were dining before the theatre and were on a restricted time. The main course took ages to come out. It appeared there was a problem but instead of the waitress communicating she just walked around looking confused. This appeared to be happening on a number of tables. Problems can happen just keep your diners informed. Food is always good but service needs addressing.
A well situated restaurant for pre-theatre dining with good service and some reasonable food offerings. Entree and dessert were reasonable but the one-off "Fish & Chips" offering for the Deep Blue Sea play was appalling. Charge was $25pp, but it was not worth any price at any establishment, being pre-prepared "Birds Eye" standard battered frozen "fish" of unknown origin, quality and taste. There are a number of restaurants in the vicinity that will be our choice in the future.
Service reasonable food mediocre
Very disappointed in the food. Fish was overcooked and dry.
Very good pre theatre meals.
Service was friendly and very attentive.
Top place to go before theatre performance
V tasty food, in good sizes for a pre theatre snack. Very attentive wait staff.
Nice ambiance and very convenient for theatre but did not like the choice of mains and did not enjoy my vegan curry - just not very interesting
Perfect dining solution prior to attending the theatre with tasty choices and friendly and efficient service.
Excellent food and a good range of choices.
Quick and efficient and friendly service.
Good decor.
Good location.
Too noisy when full.
The food at this restaurant is extremely good with an efficient service for pre theatre dining.
Unfortunately the chef in the kitchen likes to shout out orders to waiters and kitchen hands. Is this really necessary? If the kitchen was enclosed then I wouldn’t have a problem but diners can hear ‘the voice’ out on the pavement.
A special of fish and chips to go with Deep Blue Sea performance , I asked for vinegar waiter
came back and said kitchen didn’t have any, Find that hard to believe and wasn’t impressed . Really !!!!
Pretty ordinary, wished we hadn't had the fish & chips special. Too many chips and floury tasteless fish. Tartare sauce unexciting and served on the paper so I wasn't sure if I was eating sauce or paper !
Meals were adequate from a limited choice range (pre-theatre 2 course $53 incl a glass of house wine menu)
pea arancini fairly bland
noodle and hardly charred chicken with the tastiest bit being the pickled ginger
squid was nicely cooked and barramundi was tasty with weak wasabi/pea 'sauce'
Great place for pre theatre dinner
I had 4 quests, 2 teenagers and 2 adults. All are fussy eaters but all found something on the menus that appealed to them. The waiter was attentive. The table chosen for me was perfect in the back and out of the way. The food arrived on time and extras that we ordered delivered in enough time for us to attend the opening of the Deep Blue Sea.
PS.I always enjoy my experience here, especially my annual wharf revue dinner for 14.
Easy for pre theatre, they really get this and cater portion size and speed of service so you have a great dinner but ina short time. Great service and helpful staff
Excellent value and quality of food for pre theatre dining for anyone going to Roslyn Packer Theatre
Fantastic venue for pre theatre dinner, even better if you are a STC legend as you get a glass of bubbly and an amuse but he on the house.
Works well for pre-theatre dinner
Great food and excellent service spoilt by being far too noisy to carry on a conversation with anyone except the person sitting beside me. A pity.
Great pre-theatre dinner spot. Food great
Good quick meal prior to the theatre. Extensive wine list. Only 3 items available for dessert.
Four of us dined here before the matinee theatre performance. Although it is very convenient and the staff are efficient helpful and friendly the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Two of the dishes were overly salty to the point of being difficult to eat. These were the beef cheek and the yellow curry. Fiends who ordered the Barramundi were happy with their dish but otherwise we were disappointed. For these prices we expect more consistent quality.
This is a great place to eat before the theatre and we have been there before. the service is quick as the food is all pre prepared.
However, last night the barramundi which I have had before was one step away from inedible. At a table of 6 five of us ordered the barramundi and it was both tasteless and awful at the same time and at $34 dollars I would have expected better.
We will go elsewhere next time.
We booked in because we were going to a show and Walsh Bay Kitchen had advertised a pre show dinner offer. We all loved the food and thought is was value for money. Only challenge was timing. We arrived on time at 6.15pm. We were seated quickly but the restaurant was very busy and it took while for us to place our order which meant we were for rushing to finish our mains as the theatre bell was ringing for the 7.30 show. We allowed 1 hour 15 but next time we know to allow 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 45.
It provided everything that was necessary for a pre-theatre meal. There was a buzz of noise but not too noisy. The waiters were rushed but attended to our needs.
Lovely main meal (barramundi) served up to perfection.
Unfortunately the treacle pudding was very dry but the sesame icecream was nice
basically a limited menu and wine list.
However, that is good news in that the food is very good indeed and for pre-theatre it's excellent.
Right next door to Roslyn Packer Theatre perfect for pre show dining
What a surprise this place was. Excellent food, excellent service and so convenient prior to a show at the Roslyn packer theatre.
We were going to the theatre which was next door so that was very convenient. The food was lovely. We ordered some cocktails, which was a bit of a mission. As many of the special cocktails had brand names rather than the ingredients like gin, rum etc, we enquired about that, the waitress didn't know but came back with, oh its a liqueur. Ummm OK what type??? Anyway, we got there in the end. The meal came, but the wine that we ordered did not. It finally came after we had finished. (Sigh)
Great pre-theatre spot
We have been to Walsh Bay Kitchen for lunch many times before going to a play. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the quality/taste of the food. I shared two entre dishes namely Prawn dumpling, coconut & Padang sauce and Edamame hummus, salmon tartare, miso & crackers. Both dishes were tasteless! Other members of my table of 6 held similar views of their ordered dishes.
Previously, we have enjoyed the food but feel let down on this occasion.
Food was delicious, atmosphere and service was excellent. Very relaxed, not too noisy even though the restaurant was full.
This was a pre-theatre dinner and worked for the restricted times available.
Rafaele provided excellent service and conscious of out time restrictions.
Food was on time and excellent
Added to our nights enjoyment.
