Overall 5food service ambience

My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary. Not only did we get a personalized menu wishing us a happy anniversary, but every staff member wished us well when they came to our table. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so the tasting menu was meant for us. The food absolutely incredible, but it was the service that put Zahav over the top and why they truly deserve the "2019 Best Restaurant in the US" James Beard Award. Not in a pretentious or overbearing way, but any time someone left from the table, immediately someone came over to fold the napkin. When a fork was dropped, one person came to pick it up while another immediately replaced it. The staff were orchestrated in a well-choreographed dance that made this a dining experience I'll never forget.

The staff and food at Zahav was above and beyond expectation. Friendly knowledgeable service only trumped by superior food. Ana at the front of house was welcoming and friendly. Hope’s suggestions steered us in the right direction and the chefs did the rest. Can’t wait to return.

Went for my boyfriend’s 35th birthday. From the customized menu to the little details like providing a sample of a few dishes so we could try them, it’s no wonder it’s the best restaurant in the US. I could live on the laffa, hummus, and salatim alone, but everything was delicious!

Our party of four had the tasting menu which we recommend. As always, the food at Zahav was outstanding, creative and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly and even on a busy Saturday night, we never felt rushed. I had requested a quiet table because one in our party is hearing impaired and we were seated in a quiet niche in the side room; it was as close to perfect as possible in that restaurant. Zahav is not cheap but it is worth every penny.

Once again, Zahav has shown it deserves the accolades received! The food is a delight, with bright, fresh flavors that just make you smile. The service is impeccable - attentive, without being in the way, and polished and professional. We look forward to our next meal here!

Everything we ate was fantastic. The waiter gave good advice about the menu but still let us make our own decisions. The service was phenomenal and everything was great! Very glad everything lived up to the hype.

We took my nephew for his birthday. The staff at Zahav were great about making it a special occasion. They made a personalized menu, with his name and wishing him happy birthday. They let him keep the menu. As always, the food was outstanding. The hummus was super creamy. The laffa was perfectly crispy and flavorful. We tried just about all of the mezze dishes. It all tasted great but the stand-outs were the haloumi cheese (with the saltiness of the cheese balanced with strawberry and rhubarb), the grilled duck hearts (just wish they were bigger) and the caramelized fennel. We also tried almost all of the Al Ha'esh dishes, which were perfectly sized. The hanger steak had just a hint of heat and was so tender. The branzino was flaky. The beef kebab and the chicken shishlik had so much flavor. And since we were celebrating a birthday, we couldn't leave without having some dessert. The chocolate konafi with mint ice cream was definitely a hit. But the rhubarb sorbet with rice pudding as well as the olive oil cake with passionfruit curd are also equally delicious.

Wish I could give it 6 stars! Incredible food and service, from start to finish. For one of the best restaurants (if not THE best!) in the country, the ambiance is not pretentious in the slightest. Chef is actually in the line cooking! Amazing place. Hope to return soon.

This is our third time dining at Zahav. Food is alway fantastic. I do think they could vary the menu a bit more particularly the hot items. Service is good although sometimes the service staff is a bit stuffy and attitude bloated. Also, one of our guests was a vegan and they bought a regular menu with all items not vegan crossed out with a black marker. Really? What’s so hard about printing a menu for vegetarians and vegans? Lots of restaurants have separate menus and leave the sharpie markers in the drawer. Additionally, another complaint is the cleanliness of the dishes. Few of the plates were dirty, flatware dirty and my coffee cup was stained terribly inside and had red lip stick on the outside. I guess paying attention to details slips thru the cracks when you receive big awards. Not sure we will return. Restaurant of this supposed caliber should have every i dotted and t crossed without exception.

Seriously, probably the best meal in my life! I've done the tasting twice now, and it's to die for. The glazed, barbecued lamb shoulder is mind-blowing (and I don't usually like lamb)!

What can you say about a restaurant that just won the James Beard award for the best restaurants in the country. Everything was great. You will not get better hummus anywhere. The food was abundant and delicious. The desserts alone were worth the price of the meal, which was surprisingly modest. I have already planned my return visits. My one issue was that I did not realize one could avoid all the steps to get into the restaurant if you went to the back entrance. For those with limited mobility it is important to know this.

Our dining experience was everything we hoped it would be at Zahav. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent suggestions for us. We enjoyed the Taste of Zahav along with the wine pairing so we were able to sample a lot dishes on the menu. My favorite was the hummus and six small salads. The service was impeccable from start to finish.

Great restaurant whether you are dining for the first time or you are repeat customer. Start to finish, you will not be disappointed.

Good value for food, cocktails/wine list is also great. Tiki on Tigris is the best cocktail, I recommend a bottle of wine (to go with your meal) as well as cocktail(s) of your choosing for some fun/variety. If you have a bad time, the problem is you.

I’ve been to every restaurant on any “best of” list in the city since 2012 when I moved here (Philadelphia). This is one of best as far as value for the quality and amount of food.

Enjoy!
