Zahav was very good. It was a dining experience like no other restaurant.
We were celebrating our mom’s birthday and from the time we were greeted until we left it was a perfect evening. When we made the reservations, we did mention the birthday and when we were greeted, we were asked who it was and immediately she was wished Happy Birthday. As we sat down and looked at the menu, we noticed that there was a birthday greeting on top...we had to take one home.
Dinner was amazing - we did the lamb shoulder and it didn’t disappoint. Everything was amazing as we remembered and it was a lovely family dinner to celebrate a special lady in our lives.
Great spot. Great Service and spectacular food. The bus staff spilled wine and the manager couldnt do enough to apologize. Can't say enough good things about this place.
Our server and staff were excellent as was the entire tasting menu
We ordered the tasting menu for the table and had a wonderful assortment. They were very accommodating of our gluten allergy. The service was excellent as well. We had a very enjoyable evening and will definitely be returning.
Zahav never disappoints. Aside from the food being spectacular, the service is unbeatable. Everyone is beyond friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Probably my favorite restaurant in Philly.
Let me start by saying that the service was amazing. We seemingly had 2 waitresses and were tended to beautifully. We were a party of 4 that was reduced to 2 when 2 people in our party needed to leave and we were concerned that there would be a problem getting the tasting menu because the whole table didn't want to order it. We were accommodated which was perfect because it was my wife's birthday dinner. She absolutely loved that her name was printed on the menu and the waitresses were sure to wish her a happy birthday. The food was ok, not as flavorful as we had expected. The cabbage with cheese though was shockingly delicious. We were a bit disappointed by the lamb. Though it was tender, it was not flavorful. However we still recommend this restaurant based on the amazing service. Great atmosphere also. This was a very interesting experience and we are glad we came.
Most Authentic Israeli Restaurant!
I wanted to love this restaurant but it’s just ok. I just don’t see what all the hype is with this place. Lot better place to go and not have the trouble of making reservations.
You’ll never have better hummus / laffa... or more food! The tasting menu is amazingly delicious but sooo much food. Luckily it tastes amazing as leftover as well!
Great food. Always a pleasure going there. They take care of everyone as if it was in their home. Can’t wait to come back.
As with everyone, we booked one month in advance for my 60th birthday. We did the Chef's tasting menu to get a sample of as many things as possible. The starters were very good, the egg and pea falafel great. However, the main dish which was lamb shoulder with Persian fried rice was literally inedible. Both were so overly salted it was like licking a pillar of salt. All four of us agreed and we left the whole thing uneaten. Desserts were excellent. We would not go back. For the aggravation of staying up until midnight to get a table a month in advance, we should not have an inedible main course. There are many restaurants that do Israeli/middle eastern small plates just as well. It is not that hard to make tasty beets, carrots, eggplant, fennel and cabbage. While they were very good, there was nothing exceptional about the preparation, and again to not be able to eat the main course was very disappointing. The couple we were with had been before and felt there was nothing exceptional about the restaurant but were willing to give it a 2nd try for my birthday. Unfortunately, we all agreed we would not do it again.
Zahav is the best from start to finish! The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all perfect! It was a birthday celebration and they had printed "Happy Birthday Patricia" on all the menus. The wine and drink options were plentiful and varied, and accommodations were cheerfully made for allergies or food sensitivities. They even made a special dessert of fruit for the person who couldn't have sugar. Everything about the evening and dinning experience were perfect and surpassed our expectations.
My 15 year old son wanted to come here for his birthday. The hostess greeted us and wished my son happy birthday. They had happy birthday on his menu. Our waitress was fantastic. All staff were excellent. Food was great. My son had a great time as well as the rest of us.
This was our second visit to Zahav, and just like the first visit, everything was fantastic! We tried the humus with the topping of the day which contained a small amount of beef cheek, just enough for flavoring. This was the only meat in our meal- and it was not missed. The humus and all of the accompanying small dishes were excellent. Between my fiancé and I we tried four Meze dishes. We marveled at how the flavors of each seemed magnified- wonderful. For Main dishes, we had the mushrooms and the eggplant dishes and were very happy with each. To wash it all down we had a pitcher (perfect for two) of lemonnana, a bourbon based drink with lemon, muddled mint and verbena. Excellent. My fiancé and I have sweet tooths so dessert was our favorite- I’m sorry I don’t remember names, but hers was chocolate based and mine was pear based- both superb! Our waitress was very attentive , helpful and pleasant! Mr. Solomonov is a true gift to Philadelphia. He hasn’t just fed Phil- he’s fed us- and we’re so happy for it!
Love the food and perfect place for celebration for my daughters birthday. Love it.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The whole experience is phenomenal from start to finish. The staff makes you feel special because they are so attentive and knowledgeable. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Outstanding as always.
Amazing - well worth the wait - got reservation over a month ago. So great and the server was awesome too. All staff were super polite and helpful. Food is bonkers!!! Chefs playlist was perfect as well. Can’t wait to go back!
Such good food, I was blown away by every course. I would say the music needs to be turned down though, you can barely have a conversation at your table.
What an amazing time I had with my wife at Zahav. From beginning to end our experience was very positive. The staff and service were both professional and knowledgeable. The food was amazing. I would highly recommend this place.
It’s worth the hype. The tasting menu is beyond words excellent. And I’ll dream nightly of the Turkish hummus.
Their fried cauliflower, hummus, and hangar steak are to die for and for those reasons alone it’s worth the two month reservation wait list!
I enjoyed mostly everything. The cauliflower and sweetbreads were two items I would not get again. Overall, food was good. Not as good as the hype though.
My favorite restaurant in the area. Incredible food, with top-notch friendly service. The hummus alone is worth the admission, but everything from the pickled vegetables before the meal, to the salatim, to the mezze, to the Al Ha'esh was delectable. Foods I normally shy away from become something magical at Zahav. I'd better stop. It's hard enough to get reservations...
We got excellent cocktails and the chef's special, which was amazing. I have had this meal 4 times and it is different and excellent and worth every penny, every time.
absolutely perfect! i jumped at the first reservation I could get. Spectacular food and service! I would go to Zahav if I could. I also love the cookbooks!
For all the hype and how difficult it is to get a reservation the restaurant was just ok. As a huge fan of middle Eastern food and of middle eastern decent, The hummus and laffa was hands down the best I’ve ever had. But the salatim was lacking as they were not really salads and most would have been better as an accompaniment to something. If you don’t like pickled veggies you will have limited choices. I’m also not a fan of serving plates as prepared when it means you get an entree and 10 minutes later you get the rice (served lukewarm) that was supposed to accompany it. The flavors in the chicken and branzino were amazing and i was full after the tasting menu but my husband left hungry - the chicken portion should have been double in size and would still have been small for an entree. Overall the prices are actually very reasonable. There are many other restaurants in Philly i will return to before Zahav.
Not your grandfather's Middle Eastern food, Zahav is different and innovative. The small plates gives you a chance to try everything, well, almost. So I had to try the duck hearts because, like Everest, it's there. Good but not great. Very, very slightly chewy. The humus and the bread with it is always first class as was the rest of the food. I particularly appreciate that they don't pack the tables in even though its obvious they have more potential clients than they can accommodate. The seating in alcoves is especially good if you want to carry on a conversation.
Once again Zahav came through with a meal experience that was over the top. The service was spot on as always our server took his time explaining in detail everything about each dish that we ordered and was always there when we need something. It’s no wonder that Zahav is my favorite restaurant
I cannot say enough about this place. It is one of the best meals I have ever had. This is our second time here and both times we had the chef's tasting. It is really more food than we can eat, very generous tasting of pretty much the whole menu. Michael, the chef was kind enough to come to our table to check on us, we were a big group and I can tell you the service was outstanding. Ben our server was on top of everything. Our glasses were never empty and no request was ignored. They are accommodating in every way. The quality of the food is superb. The price is frankly a bargain in a city like Philadelphia. You could easily spend twice as much at a a chain like Ruth's Chris and not have the quality or quantity of food we were given. If I could give 6 stars I would. Can't wait to go back
Great experience. The staff went above and beyond
Truly exceptional dining experience.
Fabulous birthday dinner! I made reservations way in advance. First time there. Food was outstanding. Great vibe! One thing to note - was surprised by all the stairs, initially from the curb where our lyft driver dropped us to the steps up to the restaurant entrance, considering I had an elderly aunt with us. There may have been an alternate way to enter but we didn't see it. It worked out fine.
Great restaurant and ambiance! Quality food and so much freshness. Kids loved it too.
Zahav continue to amaze and impress me. Each visit seems to get better and I wonder where Solomonic’s limits are. The Turkish hummus was new and incredible for me. It set the stage for an amazing meal. My only regret is the lamb shoulder wasn’t available the night we went - but good reason to come back again soon.
Best restaurant in Philly. Shared the chefs tasting menu and it was unbelievable. So worth the wait for the reservation.
Zahav, you beautiful and perfect restaurant, how do you do it? Every person on the staff, from hostesses to those bussing the table to waiters moved in perfect harmony, like an elegant and expertly choreographed dance. The value is so on-point, the team is unobtrusive yet ever-present. It's a marvel.
That said, the real star is the food, and though I've been many times before, it just doesn't get old. The salatim, as always, was dynamite. Six tiny bowls pack so much flavor in, but don't fill you up before the main attraction. The hummus - silky smooth, and topped with tasty fixin's while the laffah bread was like a cloud.
We were able to enjoy so many different flavors, but the stand-outs are the halloumi, the cauliflower, the hanger steak, and a new dish with peppers, feta, and hazelnuts I wish I had access to 24/7.
They truly take such care in every step of the meal, and I can't wait for my next visit!
Everything was great from the service to the food. I was extremely lucky to get a last minute reservation.
