Raj of Kensington
Always the best - we actually made a stopover from Spain to Canada at LHR to have dinner here. Always fantastic food and superb service.
Wonderful food. Definitely call ahead, and leave a little time to savor the meal.
Had the set, tasting menu which was very tasty
I was dining solo on a weekday night. The entire restaurant was open save 1 table with 6 family members(1 annoying child). I was seated right next to them! Ugh. Fortunately for me they were close to the end of their meal. Once the family left there was 1 other diner for about 30 minutes. I eat early so by the end of the meal there were more patrons.
This was my first visit to the establishment. A few colleagues had mentioned that they enjoyed their meals there. I had very fine service. The poppadoms were plentiful and I enjoyed the 3 sauces that accompanied them. My main course was delicious. It was the lamb shank and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely return.
On our arrival we were given a very warm welcome and shown to our table. Help was given regarding ordering and we had a delicious meal, best poppadoms and chutney etc ever! The Railway lamb dish was a great success as well as peshawari nan, bhindi and all the other dishes. Will definitely return next time we are in the area. The bill with beers worked out at £65 per couple along with the offer of taking the food we had been unable to finish home. We declined which was regretted the following morning! Also a very good atmosphere in the restaurant, everyone seemed to be enjoying themself as, indeed, we did.
Raj of Kensington was a lovely find for us: truly excellent food and great service. We highly recommend it and will be sure to return!
While visiting London for a few days, we decided we wanted a nice but not too fussy Indian meal full of different flavors. We had a wonderful meal and superb service. The Kerala coconut prawns we’re outstanding.
I will go back to this restaurant every time I'm in this part of London because the selection and quality of the food is so good. This is not the average "slop it all together with masala and serve it to the hungry ignorant" Indian restaurant — it's food cooked and served with pride, and you can get details and advice from the owner/manager about what you eat.
Love the food but the service was atrocious. Slow and unresponsive. They seemed to have a few staff missing including a chef.
They should have apologized about the slow service and made an appropriate gesture to my table and others suffering same fate.
While that was happening, take away orders were flying out the door. They should treat in house diners with same speed. In fact, they should treat in house diners with much more service and respect.
I made a reservation through Opentable for 9:30. My friend and I checked in just before 9:30. We waited around 10 minutes for a table to be cleaned and set for us, even though several tables for 2 were available. But then, we waited for what seemed like hours before our drink orders were taken. Then our food, which was delicious, took forever too. We didn't order anything special. And the table that came in after us was served before us. Maybe it was just an off night for the staff.
Amazing food and tremendous service
We had a very pleasant evening. Friendly and helpful staff. Food tasty and hot.
I’m with delta & this is my favorite restaurant
Amazing food! Highly recommended!
Wonderful little restaurant in Kensington. The food was delicious and the staff were very attentive. I strongly recommend making a reservation because the restaurant got very busy after 7 pm.
Very average food, small portions, overpriced. Service attentive but perhaps too much so.
This was very good and the staff was very friendly. We have slow service as the restaurant was busy so they were very behind in bringing the food. Too a long time to take our order as I think they wanted to space us out due to serving other customers. With the exception of the slow service quality and friendliness was exceptional!
Mega food so tasty! A proper local which the area needed❤️
Another amazing dinner at Raj!
Great Indian restaurant in Kensington! Food was very good and it was easy to book a table there. It’s a very small place but food was excellent. Only negative was service was really, really slow, otherwise it would be 5 stars (out of 5).
Great indian food! Small and cozy, service impeccable.
Food and service fantastic!
Très bon indien et à bon prix, je recommande chaudement !
Lovely waiters, very helpful, great service.
Consistently good. Friendly, professional staff. Delicious food.
As Kensington residents, this is our 'go-to' restaurant for Indian cuisine
As always, wonderful evening at Raj.
We made a reservation for 12.00 which was accepted. We arrived to find the restaurant door locked and a member of staff sweeping the floor inside. We waited patiently for 15 minutes then rattled the door to absolutely no reaction from the person inside. After waiting for another 5 minutes, we rang the restaurant. The staff member answered the phone and told us that we couldn’t possibly have made a booking as they wouldn’t have accepted it: this despite we had an email confirmation from opentable. He said the restaurant (may) open at 12.30 if his colleague arrived! Needless to say we were pretty irritated not only to find the restaurant not open, but also his offhand and quite frankly rude attitude. We certainly would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I’ve been forced to put in ratings for the food, ambience and value even though through the shoddy service we didn’t manage to experience the interior of the restaurant!
Amazing food! The food here is so fresh and tastes like nothing I have tasted before. Totally recommended
Amazing as always. Great food, friendly service. Love, love, love this restaurant!
Excellent food and service. The mixed grill starter was the best I have ever had - the chicken was extremely tender and the salmon was delicious.
Very nice food but thought the wine was very expensive
This is a great restaurant with terrific service and delicious food! Would definitely return the next time we’re In London!
Excellent, as usual! We love their food. The only negative when we dined on this occasion was that they were so busy filling take away orders, their restaurant service was a bit slow.
Excellent restaurant in the heart of Kensington. in a town with an inexhaustible supply of Indian restaurants, Raj stands out for taste, value and excellent service. The menu is like taking a journey through many parts of Indian and the tastes, the preparation and the presentation are excellent. Seldom do yo see this culinary expanse in traditional Indian restaurants. The wine list is quite remarkable as well which you cannot find in others.
Wanted to take some Swedish relatives to a proper restaurant. They all said they liked Indian food, so I looked online for a high number of good reviews. Relatives said they were very happy with the meal, so job done! Starters, in particular, were very tasty!
Service was fast but charmless. The whole payment transaction completed without eye contact, please or thank you. They did manage to automatically add 12.5% service charge though
We were visiting London and wanted to try out Indian food. I did research online, as well as on Open Table to pick this restaurant. We really loved it when we showed up. It had about a dozen or so tables - nicely laid out - with decent space in between them.
The waiters (and possibly the owner also) came over to welcome and got us a good table. it was quite chilly and rainy outside, the restaurant was quite comfortable - even though we sat relatively near the main door, since they had no other tables available.
The menu was quite concise, but had good set of choices. My kid doesn't like spicy food, so we ordered some plain chicken and rice. They didn't charge her for the rice - that was nice gesture.
The food was quite good. The kabobs were excellent. I am not a big foodie, but appreciate good food. I would definitely go back there again - both alone and with the family.
If you like a decent Indian restaurant - not too expensive - but good quality food, you cannot go wrong with these guys!
Food and service was very good.
My only criticism was the discretionary service charge of 12.5%. I asked the waiter if I had to pay and he said YES it's mentioned in the front window, to which I then paid. I later checked the window and It clearly states discretionary and not mandatory.
I realise this is the norm in London now and I have no issues giving tips but I think it's a cheek that restaurants are adding them as a default payment and without my consent. I prefer to hand my tips directly to the waiting staff and not the restaurant for obvious reasons. Most importantly tips should be based on the staff going over and above their normal waiting duties. This is the UK, not the USA were tips are reliant upon for wages.
I would of given a better review if I wasn't lied too and pushed into paying the service charge.
Fantastic food and service - highly recommended.
Cold soggy starters. Not much chicken in the chicken tikka masala. Dry over cooked chicken in the jalfrezi. Not responsive to complaints. Waste of time and money. Don’t go.
