Red Star never disappoints. I do miss the lavender corn bread. The lamb shank is wonderful.
Excellent, attentive service...Generous drinks and very tasty entrees...While one steak was under cooked, they went the extra mile to satisfy and accommodate....Wide variety of selections.
Was expecting to order from the brunch menu. However, they were doing a Mother's Day buffet brunch for $50 per person. It was quite a hefty price for brunch. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our brunch. Food was good. Some items were very good, some fair. All in all a nice brunch, but not sure if it was worth the $50 value.
I found it unfortunate the manager wouldn’t allow me to order their lamb shank because he had other more important customers coming in later as part of a large group ... he didn’t use the words “more important” but that is the translation I took away since he was holding orders so he could have enough for the group ... service was great, food is good and well prepared ...
The food was very good and my server was helpful with the menu and making recommendations! I will be back when I’m back in Portland.
Restaurant was nice but it was a little cold inside
We loved the convenient valet parking with two hours free with one elevator ride up to the restaurant level. I loved our waitress and with vegan, fish, gluten free and other meat options it was a great menu for a variety of diets. The prices are a little steep however worth it. Thank you
Dine out for life
Excellent dinner. I enjoyed the salmon. Good presentation. Good atmosphere.
Our dining experience at the Red Star Tavern was superb. Our waiter, Sebastian, was super friendly and attentive. We were celebrating a friend's visit to Portland, and he must have told the chef because a few minutes later we were treated to a charcuterie plate for our special occasion - such a wonderful surprise ! We ordered the chef 3-course meal that was fantastic. To top it all off, the grilled pineapple bread pudding for dessert was heavenly. Thank you everyone at Red Star !!
Birthday celebration. Made reservation ahead. Did not feel welcome from entry. Waiter was rude and dismissive. Salmon dry. Wild boar rigatoni overly salty. Steak was good, average nothing special. Drinks never topped off. Had to ask for cutlery.
Actually sat at table and cried at disappointing 50th birthday experience. Probably good for a weekday lunch, not a celebratory vibe. Not worth high price tag.
Our server was not very attentive. I had to RE order my omelet 3 times and it still was NOT correct and I really didn’t get what I wanted to eat except my potatoes. Very unhappy with my experiences. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday so I decided to not argue over payment over my food being wrong 3 times.
food was very good but the waiter was abrupt and unwelcoming
I went to Red Star Tavern on Easter for brunch with 5 of my friends. The food was really good and reasonably priced. The server was very friendly. We had 6 people total and we asked them to give us 6 separate checks and they did it happily. I was pleasantly surprised since many places don't like to separate checks. I would definitely come here again!
Happy with our brunch selections and our attentive server. Good options for Passover.
Service was terrible. Server was terrible. Our food arrived after an entire hour, and neither the server nor manager (who eventually brought us our food) acknowledged how late the food was. They even rather cut us short, when we tried to mention it to us. Rude AF.
Very surprised! The food was exotic and the place very nice!
Enjoyed delicious, carefully composed salads with local ingredients. Great coffee; courteous and friendly service. Validated parking made the visit to downtown restaurant convenient.
Very high-quality food, and excellent service. The portion of my salmon was fairly small, but it was fresh and perfectly cooked.
Cheryl is fabulous at her job, so kind and caring. Open to great humor too! Love the food here, always enjoyable!
Met a business associate for dinner. Food and service were excellent. Ambiance easy to converse in.
Half chicken was delicious.
Happy Hour was pleasantly not overly crowded.
Awesome place! Great food that’s reasonably priced. Ambiance was really nice and staff were great.
Service was extremely slow. The server left as we requested a drink menu when she asked for drink orders. The host brought the drink menus and then we didn’t see our server for another 10 min. The whole experience was like that and it wasn’t busy at all. Food was okay, not great. I have a feeling everything sat as our warm drinks were served as lukewarm and food was the same.
The food was awesome. The stake was cooked perfectly and the service was amazing. I like how the menu rotates or is different every time I go. It feels like the ingredients they use are fresh and sourced locally. The drinks were unique and perfect for the occasion. Desert was simple just cookies and milk.
The scallops with oxtail risotto are TO DIE FOR, also the caramelized brussel sprouts are off the charts. My boyfriend got the NY strip steak and it was also completely amazing. The drinks are great as well. 10/10 would return or reccommend to a friend.
Great dinner! The braised wild boar and mushrooms was extremely good and a sizable portion at that. We left satisfied and will be back again for sure.
This has become our go-to business lunch restaurant in downtown Portland. Easy to get to, good service, and everyone can find something they like. Highly recommend.
Waited over 10 mins to take a drink order, and about 10 mins to receive the drinks. With it taking so long we decided to order and everything came out at once.
The waitress was amazing, food was delicious and it’s in a great spot!
Met a relative for lunch and it was rather quiet in the restaurant. Pleasant dining experience.
An excellent lunch, with a great atmosphere. It was very quiet, which allowed us to have a most enjoyable visit.
We enjoyed a really late breakfast (like after lunch time!) there recently. There was a nice selection of offerings, the food was tasty and the service was good. We'll be back!
We had a lovely anniversary dinner at the Red Star. We ordered the chefs menu which was 3 courses, all delicious, with matching wines. Our waiter was lovely, they gave us 2 free drink tickets for our anniversary and we got a further 20% discount as we were staying at the hotel. Loved it!
Great flavors, great service. Will definitely go back!
Service was very slow even though there were only a few people. A few things not on the menu.
Mostly underwhelming experience. The service was very hands off, the food was good but the hot dishes weren't delivered hot. Overall an okay experience, but nothing to return for.
Came here for New Year’s Eve dinner and had a really good time. Service was quick and even our food came out quickly. It is on the pricer end and the food was good. Decent portion sizes, not to much and not to little. I would definitely go back or recommend this restaurant.
Great. Would recommend to anyone
