République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. There's some history to this building which is neat. I decided to take my girlfriend out for dinner here. Service was impeccable. The food was very clean and tasty. Ordered oysters which were fresh with no fishy odor - so definitely a plus there. The braised short rib was soo tender and flavorful.

Also ordered the lobster pasta dish, which seems to be categorized on the menu as one of their main dishes. Was a bit disappointed on this one. The taste was fantastic, but honestly for the price I was expecting to see either a full, or even half lobster tail and there was only some strips of pasta to accompany the small bits of lobster as well. So since my girl and I like to share our main dishes, between the two of us with the lobster/pasta dish, we were essentially done with that dish in a matter of 2 to 3 bites. The lobster dish hardly seems sufficient for one person, imagine two?

They did give us a small complimentary tomato based soup sample for my girl and me. This was also very delicious. At the end, there was no birthday treat offered. Just would've been nice... no song necessary because I understand some restaurants don't want that type of vibe but a small ice cream with a candle lit at the end could have been a nice touch at a minimum.

Bottom line, I would recommend this restaurant to a friend but it wouldn't be without mentioning the full experience.

We arrived and were seated almost immediately. The server was great and recommended some dishes. I went with the duck and it was amazing! Make sure sure to get the bread with butter. I could eat that everyday for the rest of my life.

Absolutely delicious. Kept very sanitary with constant changing of gloves. All staff wore masks plus clear face shield. Husband and I were so happy with the delicious food. Best butter in the world too!

Food was subpar compared to the Republique of the past. We won’t recommend getting the steak or short rib anymore. Stick to the bread, Normandy butter and sea salt.

Came on a Saturday night. Packed house but distanced appropriately. The staff was friendly, masked, gloved, and face shielded. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. Got oysters and bread and butter for appetizers. Both were excellent. Had the pasta with brown butter and sage filling, that was delightful. The cocktails were top notch. I got the old fashion, gin and tonic, the celery, and they were great. Main course was the chicken tagine, which was above average, but tasted one dimensional, not life altering as our waiter suggested it was. I did eat it cold the next day and it may have been better. Wish I would have gotten the duck instead. The dessert was a “tipsy cake” but more like a very soft bread, and that was ok. Given the reviews and popularity of this restaurant, I was expecting more, but still a solid choice. Would come back if just for the bread and cocktails. The service was great initially, but then it took about 45 minutes for our waiter to notice that we are ready for dessert and the check after.

Had to wait over 40 minutes for our table, even though we had a reservation. Unreasonable when the option to wait is to just stand outside on the sidewalk. We were also not offered anything to drink or a menu while we waited

This was our first big dining experience since the pandemic. It’s been a long time since having such a wonderful dining experience. Republique built a wonderful outdoor patio. The food was amazing, incredible flavors and the warm bread is the best! The staff was attentive and well protected. The only downside is the price...it’s an expensive restaurant. But if you know that going in, the food keeps me coming back.

Fantastic food. The outdoor patio is large with more than enough space between tables and is well lit. The service was outstanding and you could tell that the staff was happy to be there and have customers. Perfect for our date night, I would highly recommend the Monday prefix offering.

Food was amazing!!! We almost ended up canceling our reservation because we did not want to go to this place, but that would have been a huge mistake. The food tastes very good and flavorful. Their desserts were so great that we came back the next day for brunch and got some pastries. Would definitely recommend.

The outdoor seating was so hot I was barely able to eat my meal. Fans would be a huge help.

Also, the seats alongside the wall are very hot from the wall being scorched in the sun all day.
Food was good, but for 100 bucks a head, you can probably do better in some other spots around town.

Always excellent! They’ve pared their menu down due to current COVID-19 challenges, but we left just as satisfied as we always do. Great wine selection, wonderful food no matter what you choose, and attentive service. Kudos to the staff for shifting gears and serving outside.

Outdoor seating is available now.
Today was very unfortunate weatherwise.
It was over 100 degrees and super humid.
(I was expecting to see some fans or misters or something. But none of them was in the patio. )
I came to this restaurant for several times for lunch with friends and we all truly enjoyed then food along with the ambience everytime we came.
But the dinner menu was a little bit below than my expectation.
(3 of us ordered 1 appetizer, 1 bread/butter, 2 pastas, 1 steak and 2 desserts)
Loved the appetizer and bread/butter.
I personally think Republique has the best baguette and butter in town.
Fresh salad was great as well.
But main dishes were unexpectedly bland and blah.
The $65 steak was not even good. (Sorry, Republique.)
I recommend this restaurant for lunch/weekend brunch more.
The staffs are super friendly and nice.
