Located in London’s Notting Hill at 92 Kensington Park Road, Core by Clare Smyth is a modern fine dining restaurant with a strong British ethos, in an elegant, relaxed interior.
I've been to a few M* restaurants before, but this is hands-down the best dining experience I've had - it was 3 hours of sumptuous indulgence. My wife and I attended for my birthday on a Saturday evening, 6.30pm booking. Walking in and seeing the open kitchen, with Clare Smyth herself standing at the pass and turning to say hello, was great and the whole ambience and feeling is relaxed, casual but at the same time of the very highest standard.
We had the tasting menu (Core Seasons) alongside some by-the-glass drinks and each and every course was superb, with intensity of flavours that were mindblowing. Standouts are hard due to the flawless consistency, but after eating the lamb course (questioningly referred to as "the sheep's' life") I may have said something along the lines of "that's the single best plate of food I've ever eaten...". Oh, and the cherry bakewell - wow.
It's very expensive, bill was over £400 for the two of us with just two glasses of wine each. But walking away you do not question where that money goes - you can see it and taste it! All the accolades this restaurant, and Clare herself, is piling up are richly deserved. Hitting the refresh button over and over at midnight, 91 days in advance (and still only getting 6.30) - definitely worth it!

The food itself shouts quality - the textures, flavour combinations and execution have all been very carefully considered. Flawless.
The overall performance gave us an experience we wish to repeat.
One tiny comment - the staff who let us know the details of the various dishes must repeat the same story countless times in a day. Please slow down, I found it very difficult to understand.

Core is always beautiful. The big stars on the seasonal tasting menu are the cheese and onion (the little pastry should be available everywhere as the world’s best vegetarian pie), the poached brill with caviar, and the core-teaser.
Lovely restaurant with great food. The ambiance and service were excellent. There was no music which I really appreciated. It is very expensive though. Our a la crate dinner plus house wine cost £150 per head.

Thank you especially for taking note of the info in our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. Your well wishes were appreciated with each course and the little birthday bite with candle at the end was such a lovely gesture!
This was our second visit, the first having been before the Michelin stars were awarded. It did not disappoint. Everything about the evening was very special. The food is outstanding, the staff strike a perfect balance between being professional, attentive and friendly yet being unobtrusive. There is a relaxed vibe about the place, full of diners having a lovely evening with friends. A happy buzz of noise, not the hushed tones of some "special" restaurants. Not a corporate entertainment table in sight!
While Clare Smyth has publicly said that she wants Core to be a place where people feel comfortable in jeans, I did feel judged by a few of the front of house staff when my husband and I came in jeans and nicer tops. Perhaps we did not spend enough money. Most of the staff seemed genuinely friendly and warm though. The food itself and the cocktails were well deserving of two Michelin stars and I believe they have the potential for three stars.
Great meal, great food and service. But, when we departed, no one said a word to us. It was really strange. No one said "thank you for coming", "goodbye", "have a nice weekend" - NOTHING. Two women at podium when we left completely ignored us, as did servers when we departed. Compared to our welcome, we found this very strange and not welcoming. Left a sour taste in our mouths. Would not return.
Classics. Core apple is surprisingly light, duck is a brilliantly balanced dish, potato is the best seemingly simple yet complex. Pear dessert could have done with something tart or salty but it was refreshing and delicate
Das Essen inklusive Service, Ambiente etc. war das Beste was wir jemals in einem Restaurant gegessen haben. Absolut liebevoll angerichtet, super Service und tolle Aha Effekte. Gerne wieder und für alle Feinschmecker absolut empfehlenswert. Dagegen sind deutsche Sternerestaurants überteuert und von der Qualität her nicht vergleichbar.

Well they don’t carpet the floor, when they run the food around us, I felt disturbed and noisy, couldn’t enjoy the food, but The food and none alcohol drink was quite good.

Totally worth it! We had 9:30pm reservations and it was soooo worth the late dinner. We even got a tour of the wine cellar from the head sommelier! Staff was friendly and we had the best time!
Overall the food lacked flavour. The standout for me was the exceptional service and the Pastries. My brioche was stale and my duck was cold and needed seasoning.
Standout dish was the core apple - unbelievable.
10/10 for staff service also.
Absolutely fantastic experience. We will definitely be back. The service was second to none, to say the food looked like works of art is an understatement. Flavours incredible, setting beautiful. Simply cannot sing it’s praises enough. Definitely deserving of its 3 Michelin stars.

We thoroughly enjoyed each of the dishes and the atmosphere was great! Drinks Waiters/ waitresses a little over zealous, but we "managed" that ok. It was a special evening for us and you ensured it felt very good! Thank you
Exceptional in every sense
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Core on Tuesday. We were the first to arrive and were shown the kitchen and all the chefs and kitchen staff took the time to say hello to us. Then again once we were leaving we were introduced to Clare and Rob who took the time to speak with us. The service was exceptional and everyone was so friendly and attentive. The food obviously was out of this world and the signature cocktails! We enjoyed the Seasons Tasting Menu and every course was spectacular. If you fancy a treat then this really is the place to do it! We will definitely be going back!
Everything was exceptional, food incredible, staff unbelievably attentive and we agreed the best meal and evening we have had in a restaurant since we were in Core last! Superb in every way!

We booked a table at 14:15, which is the last slot for lunch, and also arrived late but they kindly let us choose a tasting corse and stay until just before dinner time starts at the bar.
We had a really nice lunch thanks to them.

This was our second visit, the food and presentation were both up a notch. The dishes had exceptional taste, and great creativity. We were recommended excellent Alsatian and Sicilian wines. Issues re noise levels had been sorted by soft furnishings. A wonderful experience.
