Farmhouse - Evanston
The menu ingredients are harvested from local farmers and change with the Midwestern seasons. Farmhouse offers locally sourced, pastured raised burgers, steaks, and poultry and makes almost everything from scratch on premise. We are a green tavern. 85% of the building materials, furniture and fixtures were salvaged from old barns in Southwestern Wisconsin and an abandoned factory on Chicago's South Side.
I enjoyed the food but thought it was quite overpriced. Service was excellent, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
Great spot for lunch out on the patio. Delicious and fresh food, nice staff.
My friend and I had different salads and the greens tasted old, dry and wilted. I would never eat there again.
Was there for a weekday breakfast, and the food was really superb. The coffee was also terrific. Definitely worth going to if you're in the area.
Had a very enjoyable meal, server was excellent, food was very good and lived up to their hype. Only complaint is that the outdoor furniture is not really sturdy.
I loved the locally sourced meals, more restaurants need to take on this trend. Relaxing atmosphere and hospitable servers, I would highly recommend it.
Expensive for the quality of food and service. Orders were mixed up, not a great attention to the minimal needs of our table....pepper for instance.
Took my parents and they can’t stop raving! Loved the salad and special bread and butter, loved the barramundi, loved the burger, loved the doughnuts- coffee was delish. We want early and it was a bit louder that I expected but it worked out fine. Dimmed the lights after my mom commented how bright it was- really nice of them:)!
Thank you for a great experience. The food was great and our waiter was perfect!
We dined outside, and everything (and everyone) was wonderful!
Yes- though I would warn about the slow service! Perhaps I would recommend going for drinks only at the bar... Our server did not seem at all concerned about our table in any regard. It was hard to flag him down to take even our drink order or get more water! It was a warm evening on the patio, water shouldn’t run dry. He never once dropped by to ask our our food was. It’s not a cheap place to eat, so the value of the food seems to greatly diminish with terrible customer service
HI have been to Farmhouse many times and always enjoyed it, but this time was a complete disaster. Our table was not ready until 25 mins after the reservation, despite there being plenty of tables - all un-bused. We waited another 20 mins for a server to come take our drink order. Apps were served and long gone by the time 4/5 drinks arrived, and then it took another 15 mins for a server to some tell us drink #5 was not coming because they were out of the whiskey. No plates or silverware was served with the apps, and no one would come help us, so I had to get up and help myself to them from the busing station....up until then, we thought it was a staffing problem. Then our wine appeared in tiny, overfilled glasses, because they apparently broke all of their regular glasses? And when the food arrived it was just horrible - my steak (the most expensive thing on the menu) was way overcooked, the gratin potatoes were a brown, dry and shriveled hockey puck, the broccoli so bitter it was inedible. My husband's salad was totally undressed...we would have complained, but no one ever came back to the table. We had to stand up for someone to come give us the bill. Maybe it was just a bad night, but I will NEVER go back.
Very fresh and interesting food in a charming ambience.
Sat outside. Very nice seating area. Food was outstanding. Had the flatbread & dumplings for appetizer. Both were great. I had the braised short ribs. It was a “10.” Can’t wait to go back & order it again.
The salad ingredients were very fresh and delicious and the service was excellent, Taylor took care of us and she was friendly, pleasant and had great attention to detail.
Nice ambiance, limited menu, poor service, chicken dinner not to my liking.
Pretty mediocre food and not very friendly service. Won’t be back again for a long time.
Excellent! Our party of six was seated promptly, service was prompt, and the food arrived after an appropriate time and was delicious. Rigitoni and grass fed beef burger were especially good, as were Tavern fries cooked in ramp oil, and interesting and tasty change.
Limited but interesting enough menu. Fun appetizers that you could really turn into a meal. Excellent burgers. Nice wine and beer list. Friendly and efficient service.
Lovely restaurant, great service and food was good. I thought the menu options were lacking in some healthy options so was limited by choice. They don’t have soy milk if you like soy in your coffee. They do have almond milk though but it’s not my thing. I arrived at 10:30 and it was calm and peaceful but then it got super rowdy near 11:30am. I’m not sure if it was just the one noisy table who lifted the noise level or if it is always that noisy when there are more people dining. The ambience (aside from noise level) was great.
The air conditioning wasn’t working well downstairs-and it was so hot, so we asked to be moved upstairs where it was surprisingly cooler. Food was ok and service was fair.
Food was great! There were three of us there for brunch and I sampled all the entrees. The open faced breakfast sandwich was outstanding made with a thick delicious slice of French brioche toast with bacon and a fried egg topped with green sprouts for brightness. The vegetable scramble was excellent and included squash and asparagus, very flavorful. Last the breakfast skillet was fairly typical but still good. The pork sausage was very good. Only issue which was pretty significant on the hottest day of the year, 95 degrees, the air was not completely off but barely working so it was a bit uncomfortable inside. I would go back again but not before checking on the AC if it were during summer!
Not a refreshing place to be on a hot day. It was so hot in there several people including myself were using the menus to fan themselves including some of the waitresses.
We booked a high-top table but none were available when we got there.
We were able to get a last minute reservation and walked into a rustic casual atmosphere.
Food was pretty good but there were a lot of flies flying around the table which was annoying as well as unsanitary. Overall a good experience.
The food was over all bland and service was inconsistent. I’ve been here a few times and this will be my last time.
We both ordered dinner salads. Terrible. Grilled chicken on my salad was not fully cooked and made me sick half way through the meal. Service was poor. Couldn’t find the guy after ordering. Check delivery very slow after request.
We were a party of seven and picked this restaurant because they were farm to table. Except for the pork chops which were loaded with fat, the food, given the price, was average, at best. The service was below par and the place was very noisy. There is nothing that stands out as being good. The consensus was that no one in our party would recommend this restaurant.
Went to Farmhouse about two weeks ago and had one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. So recommended it for a Saturday night. I ordered a hamburger medium rare. It came medium. Within seconds brought me another medium. Within 5 minutes, came with a raw hamburger. Waited until the other three people at the table finished their meals and sat and talked for a while before I received my dinner. Was told by a manager that other orders were before me. Asked me if I wanted to change my order but I really wanted that hamburger. When I finally received my new hamburger, half was medium rare the other half raw. If you can't cook a hamburger to how the customer wants it, then you shouldn't be serving hamburgers - especially if you ask how I want it cooked. But worse than that, the fact that I had to wait until every party in the restaurant that was seated after me was served first, is a big disservice to me. I came in with three people and we should be eating together. I wasn't charged for my meal that I had to eat alone but, I will not be back. Thank you for listening.
Great outside seating. The menu had lots of great choices!
This place isn't terrible, but it gets so noisy! I have gone there twice for lunch, and had to shout for the conversation to be heard. Service is decent, I've only had one dish there, and it had too many radishes in it. If you want a noisy restaurant in a good location, this is for you!
Very good, food and service.
When you haven’t seen your good friends in 4 years and recommend that we meet at farmhouse for a family get together and are met with a less than accommodating hostess and a jerk of what i can only assume is the manager, you have no other option than to tell your community and the rest of your high rise neighbors. Making fun of our friend’s baby and condescending saying in baby talk “oh my gosh....inaudible, yet likely rude comment” was the most unprofessional and immature behavior exhibited by this horrendous “manager” who seated us. I would have gone elsewhere immediately if we were not limited on time. Next of kin a block down the road is a MUCH better choice in downtown Evanston for a pleasant family/friend get together. This is the most poorly trained staff and nothing like the farmhouse in Chicago. Cheese curds are always on point though.
Great service, decent food but way too expensive for what it is.
We had an early reservation and ate inside, which was why it was quiet. The interior was great, but if we went again, we would probably ask for the outside seating (a great spot on the corner of the block). Service was excellent, but it was getting busy when we were leaving for our show, so we had to ask for our server to get the check. Food was great - wonderful flavors in the dishes we got. The portion seemed a little on the small side, but I left very satisfied (and I like a full plate). Next visit to Evanston we were thinking of trying something else, but am already just thinking of going back to Farmhouse.
Mediocre food, mediocre service, old food stuck to dishes. Bright spot- lovely hostess.
Many other great spots on Evanston to enjoy.
Wonderful service and food!
We sat at the bar. Service was excellent
Food was fantastic!! Fresh and delicious!
