Located in one of downtown Libertyville’s historic buildings, 545 North’s atmosphere blends the old with the new. A sleek slate wall greets you as you first enter the restaurant, giving the space an urban feel, while exposed brick walls and hardwood floors represent the history of the space. Our copper-topped bar is a focal point as well as a prime spot for viewing the latest sporting events or mingling with friends old and new.

I love this restaurant and it did not disappoint this time. I had the steak salad (without cheese), and it was really good. One of my companions had the 545 salad, (also without cheese) and also really good. The other 2 had the salmon, which was a bit dry, but flavorful. The wine was reasonably priced and very good.
Service was a little forced, but responsive. The ambiance was really comfortable, but nice. (I really love the outdoor space, but the weather did not accommodate us this week.)
Always delicious , love the tuna tartar appetizer ,,,,,,
I’ve been here a handful of time and always enjoyed my meal. This visit was the exact opposite. Our server seemed to have no idea about the menu. Had to come back to ask how we’d like steaks done and not asking what sauce we’d like when there were options. Two of us ordered our steaks medium and they came out well done. They also had a major bug problem. Gnats and mosquitoes were everywhere and we were sitting inside. We had to ask for more waters because they kept getting bugs in them.
Consistent, quality experience all around - we’ve been coming here for years.
If you enjoy slow service, receiving food not the way it was ordered, an extremely loud atmosphere and management who just doesn’t care about your dining experience, then this is the place for you! There is a reason a majority of their reviews are negative. I ordered the Filet Mignon, medium well and not butterflied. Amy, our server said that the kitchen prefers to butterfly anything over medium but I said we were in no hurry and would be happy to wait however long it takes to make it the way we would like it. When the food arrived I could tell the steak was under cooked and after cutting into the steak my suspicions were confirmed and the steak was between rare to medium rare. I asked to speak with the manager and when she arrived she just stood at the table and looked at us without introducing herself as if we were bothering her. I asked “Are you the manager?” and she said she was and then asked if there was a problem with the food. I explained the situation and said I will just eat the areas that are cooked for my liking because I wanted to eat while everyone else was eating their food. When we finished dinner, Amy offered us dessert on the house for the inconvenience. I informed her that we already had dessert waiting for us at home because we are celebrating a birthday but perhaps she could just adjust the cost of my meal for the portion of my food that I didn’t eat. I gave Amy my credit card and was surprised to see our card was charged in full. She said “Sorry you are disappointed with your experience”. In all of my years in the hospitality and service industry I have never allowed a customer to leave my establishment dissatisfied without making any attempt to provide an incentive for them to return. The next day I called the restaurant because as a business owner myself, I would want to know if my manager was treating my customers like this. Well guess what? That manager who could care less about our experience, turns out, she is the owner!
Average food with minimal taste. Drinks were expensive. Had a martini with a twist and the bartender forgot the twist. The waiter said he would get me the lemon twist and he retrieved it, brought it to me in his bare hand, then dropped it in my drink along with his fingers. Nasty.
We used open table to make a reservation for 8:30... typically after the Saturday rush. It was a situation that the manager should have taken the restaurant out of the reservation system for the night well before we arrived. They were severely short staffed and under trained (They knew they would be going into the evening. One of the staffers was getting married and invited a number of their coworkers to the wedding.)
We waited at the bar a minimal amount of time for the situation (maybe 10 minutes past our reservation). However, we waited 20 minutes at our table before I asked the hostess if someone was helping us.
The hostess attended to our table. The one app took 20 minutes and the mains were another 20 min after that. For an 8:30 reservation with 1 app, 4 entries, 1 round of drinks from the bar and no desert, this took far too long for this type of restaurant. It was over 90 minutes.
I would have expected at least an apology from the manager. None was received.
I'll give them another try but if they are backed up- I am walking - there are many other local establishments to chose from.
I would not return. Food was over cooked and service was horrible. They weren’t that busy yet it took over an hour to get our food. It took two hours for our meal. They didn’t stop for drink refills, check, etc.
The food was not great. The service was just ok and the whole atmosphere was kind of strange. I’m surprised it has survived in Libertyville this long.
We went out with friends and decided to revisit 545 North again. It did not disappoint. Each of us ordered a different meal, and none of us were disappointed. In addition, we were able to sit in their outdoor area and enjoy the wonderful evening weather.
Good service. Enjoyable eating outside. We liked the Charcuterie plate. I would come back and spend time working my way through the small plates. Our tastes are light on char foods so we would avoid hangar steak and Cobb salad chicken in the future. Perhaps just a taste preference.
Great meal with family and a little birthday party
Very average to poor food execution, and very slow service. Air conditioner was dripping on us, so we moved outside. Our appetizers were incredibly slow to arrive. Server was nice but not overly helpful or responsive. Scallops appetizer very over cooked. Portions were small. Other food was passable at best. Inside was noisy, outside live music was good but very loud. Will not be back.
Waitress not knowledgeable regarding charcuterie cheeses. Not attentive or energetic—could hardly hear the specials—very soft-spoken. Water from ceiling was dripping on our table. With no apologies from staff or mgmt.
Chicken sandwich was delicious.
Great food but timing a little off. Entrees delivered while still eating salad. Also, waitress was not sure they would have baked potatoes ready yet - it was 6:45. Will definitely return, tho.
Our meal was fine, but service was particularly slow. I do not believe this was the issue of the server - she said they had a new chef and things were slow in the kitchen, and I believe her. Will try it again though - good food!
The best BLT I ever had. Lots of bacon, served warm and very tasty. Nice menu.
We had a great time. The patio was delightful. Live music. ...perfect volume ... not too loud.. so we could talk! Food and drink were great!
First time here, and everything from the hostess and server to the food and the cool patio made for an outstanding experience. Had the hanger steak by suggestion and it was terrific. My friend had the duck breast with the Asian prep and it was delicious. Only downside was that the taplist was not up tpo date and two of my choices were not available - but our server comped my second beer since she felt badly. I hope to return soon!
Awesome food try the Brussels sprouts with balsamic
Worst dinner ever. Waitress lacked attention to detail. Didn’t know what was in the special. Appetizer was missing items. Hair in entree. Hooray it was summer! Will never go again.
The Ahi Tuna salad was disappointing. Salad was fresh and tasty but Ahi was sparse, overdone and tasteless.
Doors were locked at 11:30 although it said lunch started at 11
Server was not focused
Overall disappointing - not like previous experience
We had a new waitress. Service was extremely slow. Waited almost 30 minutes just for water. Wrong wine was served and waited a long time for correct wine. One salad came without chicken. Not sure if waitresses fault or bartender/kitchen. We’ve been to 545 many times before and never had this happen. We always enjoy our experience.
On point service, attentive and accommodating but never intrusive. Phenomenal selection at reasonable price points. Live music was the perfect touch!
Disappointed! We made reservations for outside and we were told to wait 15 minutes. 30 minutes later we asked to just be seated. We were but our server took another 10 minutes to get our order. The owner (manager) ended up coming over and giving us our appetizer and then dinner. No apologies at all; so disappointed with the service.
We had a 7:00 reservation for outside, we were sat at 7:40. While we waited, we had drinks at the bar. Our drinks were good and the bartender was friendly. The service was slow on the patio. The food was tasty. We had to ask for water and refills. The plates should have been cleared sooner than they were. We sat outside and it was an enjoyable atmosphere. We enjoyed listening to the guitar player.
We watched the World Cup match in the beer garden with our dog and had wonderful service!!! They even brought our pup a whole bowl of treats and constant water and ice refills. 5 stars!!!
No dinner specials
545 has a gorgeous patio. Wonderful breeze when the sun goes down . The food and drinks were great too.
This was my first time there even though it has been open for years. The menu was nice but nothing on there I had not seen everywhere else. All of our food was well prepared and well presented. The bartender was our waitress and she took good care of us.
It was a afternoon theater day in downtown Chicago. After getting off the train at rush hour it was a wonderful stop for delicious food and wine. The people serving us were very efficient and pleasant, they paced the food perfectly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Nice evening. Great service. The lettuce wrap special was a little too spicy. Sriracha sauce too hot. And I like spicy!
545 North is definitely a treasure. I loved the menu with its comfort food choices and innovative small bites. We shared the seared scallops in the citrus sauce and the mini pork tostadas as appetizers. My friend had a fabulous Rueben sandwich. I kept snitching her french fries. I had the steak salad with portobello mushrooms, arugula, and a horseradish dressing, which I adored. Downtown Libertyville has wonderful boutique shopping which I enjoyed before dining. We had excellent service and the court yard is charming.
Great outdoor patio for eating/socializing. Knowledgeable staff, especially the wine expert.
This was our 3rd time at 545. We were really looking forward to our return. The server took over 30 minutes for our beverages. It was Memorial Day Sunday at 4:30...the place was empty - don't know what was going on! Another table outside went in to talk to the management, they never came out to check on us. The server came and told us she was leaving, a family emergency. Regardless if that was the reason or not, the manager/owner still didn't come outside to talk to us. It wasn't until another table went in to talk to him. Then when he came outside, we had to flag him down....sure he didn't charge us for our drinks, but he should have come outside on his own! The food was fair. Will I go back? Don't think so. You lost a customer with your lack of caring.
Great place among many choices in Libertyville. Consistently delicious food items, and brews. Bonus is the outdoor seating which we’ve enjoyed on warm evenings like this last one and crisp fall evenings also.
Good food, good service, although the food was slow in coming out (server explained that they were training a new chef). My criticism is of the servers’ attire. This is a restaurant that caters to an older crowd. Very few people were under 40. The servers were wearing short shorts and cut up jeans—just didn’t seem right for the type of restaurant and clientele.
Great outdoor dining.
Great Mother’s Day Dinner!
