The Barn Steakhouse
Featured in the Chicago Tribune and Evanston Now, The Barn is situated in a 19th century building, which was once a horse stable. Its entrance is accessible through the back alleyway for a unique experience. The intimate spot is accessible only through the alley and features soaring ceilings. This eatery also provides seating for up to 80 guests as well as outdoor seating on the winter garden.
Overpriced and not very good. Our salad came warm.
The food was quite good. The staff was excellent. The sommelier was really helpful. I enjoyed the experience and will definitely go back.
Wow!! What a Wonderful Find! Great everything! Took our best friends for a Special 60th Birthday and Anniversary Dinner and we all were totally blown away by the food, service, wine selection and overall ambiance. You could not ask for more. A Great Hip Vibe and Exceptional Menu Choices. From Steak to seafood, appetizers and dessert everyone in our party was delighted with all aspects of The Barn. You have to try it! We really can't say enough about our experience there. Kudos to all the staff, from the exceptionally friendly Hostess, Kate to the servers and the great Sommelier, who recommended a really good bottle of wine...had to have 2...to the great chefs back in the kitchen. This Restaurant Rocks! We will definitely be back!
We really enjoyed our dinner on the patio despite the large group with several kids sitting next to us. Would recommend a little more variety on price points for bottles of wine. We wanted a pinot noir and the most affordable one was $75 which is a little steep for us. My shrimp scampi and my husbands steak were both delicious.
Food was a disappointment, especially at that price level. Brussels sprouts were limp; halibut overly salty, sauce on bison was unappetizing.,
We were welcomed continually throughout our visit. The valet, the hostess, the manager, the waiter, the busboy, EVERYONE made us feel welcome. I brought my kids with me and they seemed to be the only folks under 21 in the whole place. The waiter quickly directed them to the black lemonade that they are still talking about and no one made them feel less important or like "just a bunch of kids." While I wouldn't imagine it's the first place most think to take their kids, there's no reason to hesitate based on our experience. My boys felt all grown up and loved every bite of their food. Thank you!!
We would recommend the restaurant with enthusiasm and would certainly return. The noise-level on Saturday night is very high, and we would have enjoyed our experience more if we’d requested an outdoor table instead.
We’ve been to the Barn before and loved it. This time, we were there to celebrate our anniversary, and it was just ok. Great service but food was not as wonderful as we remembered. Outdoor seating area was lovely but not so much the group of 8 seated on top of us or the lights from Evanston liquors shining into my eyes! Hopefully it was a one-off night.
Great Food, attentive service. We had an allergy at the table that I mentioned when first making the reservation, our server noted it right away and made sure to alter and avoid dishes with the allergen in it. Our server also asked if we were celebrating an occasion. We were celebrating my recent graduation, so he brought some celebratory champagne for the table, on him. It was a really great experience, and I'll definitely be returning to The Barn.
Superb food and service in a unique space.
Hidden gem in Evanston for going out for a really nice meal! Great for a special occasion!
Attentive service, excellent bar, nice menu (I had the halibut and a salad with fresh herbs), love the atmosphere, portions were smaller than last visit
Always delicious food and drinks, always great service.
Amazing. Loved it ❤️
The service was superior..from the greeter to the server and everyone else was smiling, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. My only very picky comment is that I would have enjoyed lamb chops that had more meet and less fat and grisle.
Gracious and professional staff, excellent food, well thought out wine list.
The ambience is wonderful. Nico, our waiter was truly exceptional and amazingly attentive. I was disappointed that my steak came out way too well-done but the situation was corrected. I was disappointed again when half of my leftovers didn't show up in my bag. That was "somewhat" corrected. I loved the fact that the owner is quite visibly present and eager to make your experience enjoyable. Overall, a special restaurant for a special occasion.
We were greeted upon arrival by The most vivacious hostess!! (I think her name was Kim??) She started our night off on just the right note! 🎼 What a pleasure!
We sat outside. The food was great! The wine was reasonably priced and delicious! The waitstaff was attentive but not overbearing. Just an all over great night!
I highly recommend!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service, a little pricy.
Our waiter Nick, was great! Great smile and sunny disposition. Food and wine was exceptional. Great ambiance! The kitchen added a birthday candle to our desert because they knew we were celebrating a birthday.
Food was delicious, but the slow service was painful.
Amy Morton and her Barn Steakhouse are the best. Our waitperson, Rod also wonderful. We were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary and they did not disappoint.
Good for a special evening. The fish and the steak were both delicious. The outdoor patio is very comfy and good for an early dinner
Such an amazing culinary experience in Evanston! Amy Morton is very “hands on” and helps ensure all the staff has fun while maintaining great service. Donald is great as one of the hosts!
Everything about dining at The Barn Steakhouse is outstanding. Ambiance, menu, attention to detail and dining experience.
We went to Dinner at the Barn to celebrate our daughter’s graduation. The restaurant has a sophisticated urban rustic vibe. Our dining experience was terrible. We were completely ignored by our waitress — her trainee kept apologizing for our lack of service. We sat for almost 30 minutes without placing an order for drinks. It then took another 25 to get a bottle of wine on the table. My husbands steak was ice cold, my pasta was dry on top from sitting under heat. It was truly a disaster all around. Of course they apologized when we were leaving and wanted to comp dessert. We declined. We were miserable and ready to leave because of our experience. Seemed like a rookie mistake on a big weekend in Evanston not to be over- staffed.
Wonderful dinner and ambience! Highly recommend
First time at The Barn and I really enjoyed it. Split the tomahawk steak with the table. Delicious! Also the bartender is fantastic at making a Negroni.
Excellent food and service. Recommend it very much
Poor service. Solid food.
The service, ambience, and food were all excellent.
No complaints at all. We had the burrata and two cheese flights for appetizers. Both were delicious. The bone-in ribeye and porterhouse were cooked to perfection and seasoned wonderfully. The crab pasta was delicious as well. Will definitely go back again.
Excellent cocktails, food and wine!
Very beautiful space with great ambiance. The food and service was outstanding. Went there with a friend for the Prix-fixe menu which is from 5-6pm. Great value for the price. Will definitely be back.
Excellent from start finish.
Lovely space. Helpful service. A bit loud for my taste. Felt cramped when tables filled up as backs of chairs bumped backs of other chairs. Food is usually quite good but this night was disappointing. We got the Tomohawk steak special. The presentation was lovely but the cut of meat was too fatty for us. Flavor was good
Outstanding crab spaghetti and steaks. The liver dish was outstanding!
