From hanging glass beads to architectural artifacts and an original Brunswick bar painted in gold and turquoise, this is clearly not your father's steakhouse. The Tavern's menu features USDA prime beef, Australian Wagyu, organically raised Uruguayan beef, and organic free-range chicken, diver-caught Maine sea scallops, assorted fresh fish, cold water Rock Lobster Tails, and in season: oysters from both coasts, the Alaskan king salmon run, live Maryland soft shell crabs, morels, chanterelles, and porcini from hunters in Oregon and Washington, and fresh produce from local county farms. An award-winning wine list featuring over 1,200 selections, a great wine by the glass assortment, and an unusually well-stocked bar round out the Tavern's beverage program.

I have been here several times, and the food just seems to get better and better. We had a late reservation so I'm not sure how attentive the waitress wanted to be, but the food was outstanding.
Tavern has been my favorite for years. I believe it may be managed by new management but what ever they are doing is great. I have enjoyed the upgrades
We love the Tavern! It is a warm and hip atmosphere with great food. Our favorites are the mussels appetizer, tavern salad, halibut or any steak. I tried the shrimp for the first time and they were wonderful!
Only wish they would dim the lights a bit.
Been here many times and have never been disappointed.
This is the place we go when we have guests from outside of Libertyville and we want to have an impressive meal locally. I love everything about this restaurant. The decor is interesting, the service is always good and the food is fabulous!!
The food and service is OUYSTANDING . I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Birthday dinner for my husband
This restaurant has a good comfortable vibe. It's always decorated so nice and especially great during the holidays. We both had the halibut - it was fantastic. Could have probably included a little more of the side veggies, but the piece of fish was good. The wait staff was very attentive, always filling water glasses as soon as needed and they came around with a good assortment of breads. The desserts are amazing, especially the chocolate cake.
Very welcoming ! Staff very efficient, warm and friendly. Food outstanding.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant that is a delight to the eyes. The service was impeccable, and the food we ordered was done to perfection. The wine list is extensive.
Great place nice ambiance,my halibut was the best I’ve had. Even the cocktails were exceptional
Just wonderful! Food amazing and atmosphere gorgeous!
The restaurant has a nostalgic feel to it. We were seated upstairs and it got busy yet cozy the later part of the evening. I had the East and West Oyster combo and the veal chop. I would have liked a little more of those fresh oysters. Though I am not much of a meat eater, I thought the veal chop was good. I liked that it was succulent and really delicious. The Allen Brothers prime fillet was fantastic, highly recommended. The service was friendly and our server made some suggestions that worked out great for the dinner.
Love the changes with Manager & bartender !! Good move !
Been dining here for over 10 years! 1 of my top / favorite restaurants in Libertyville to hit when I’m in the area! Great food/ varied and interesting menu selections! Great steaks of course and great sides(love that foie gras is an option you can add to your steak, plus I love their wild rice, mushrooms, and asparagus sides)! I do miss, though, the larger quantity / selections of exotic steaks they used to offer before the 2008/2009 mortgage crisis! However, the food’s still great as are the ambience and service!!
We loved this place! Amazing wine selection, delicious food, attentive friendly service, and beautiful room. Sexy city vibe with affordable suburban pricing. We will absolutely be back!
Our experience was absolutely fantastic. The food, service, wine, everything was spot on. Jenny is a phenomenal server, a compliment I don’t dole out frequently. Go here, ask for her, peruse their extensive wine list and really relax and enjoy yourself.
Awesome place and the food was outstanding! Highly recommend.
The food....wonderful! Our server, Heather....fantastic! Always an awesome experience!
The restaurant is a distinctive venue, but the food really let's the whole enterprise down. The steak ($59) wasn't cooked properly (they didn't seem to know what "rare" meant) and the fries were soggy. On the positive side the service was good and as I said the setting was nice.
Food is outstanding
The service was excellent. Food was good. Wine list extensive but also pricey - the selection of moderately priced wines was very small and some of the lower priced wines were not available. The decor is over the top.
The experience was good but overall, high priced and somewhat pretentious for Libertyville.
The food was superb as always. The wild mushrooms were so delicious and the halibut from the specials was great too. My only complaint is that I wish they would offer some more choice for vegetarians. The black bean soup was made with chicken stock.
Fine dinner out with friends. Seated promptly. Full but quiet dining room. Food excellent. Duck a tad dry but fig sause was great. Coming back soon.
Our service was spotty. At first our server was attentive but then we didn't see her around our section very much the rest of the night. We weren't offered bread when we sat down, which was okay, but then after we had been there at least 45 minutes, ordered drinks, received our pasta dishes and were almost done with our meal, a young man appeared in our area with a large basket of bread and tongs and proceeded to visit every table in our section asking people if they'd like any bread. Very odd. Our meals were just okay and the prices are not reasonable in my opinion. I doubt I would return. I think we might have better luck downstairs ordering off of their bar menu.
always been a great place to dine and have a nice experience
Went for local anniversary dinner. Went for steaks. Both over cooked. Asked for Medium plus. Both can out well done. Returned wife’s filet and I ate my NY steak. Returned 5 min with new steak raw. Third time was the charm. Finished with meal when the third time filet showed up. Wife full from lobster tail that she also ordered and sides. I wound up eating most of her filet. They did bye us our dessert. Appetizers and sides and dessert really good. Just wouldn’t go back for steaks. Try there fish or other menu items. Server was very sweet.
Poor service, tough calimari, could not send it back because the waitress was nowhere to be found. Steak was a great piece of meat, but was flavorless. Lobster was fine. Pasta was just ok. French onion soup was good.
First time we have been back to eat at the Tavern since 2008. Relocated here from San Diego and the food was superb! Highly recommend eating at the Tavern.
Brought friends that have never been, they loved it!
Being a steakhouse of course it's expensive - just make sure you stick to the steaks. Of the four in our party one had fish, two had the duck, and one had the more expensive prime filet. At least one out of the four was really good. While the filet was excellent, the duck was cooked too long, and the fish was completely overcooked, dry, and its sauce tasteless.
The wine list was extraordinarily huge - and very pricy as well but there were some good values.
There are much better places to drop this kind of money.
The Tavern is incredible. Food was amazing, atmosphere dark and inviting, the service was perfect. I’d go every night!
The food and service was wonderful. I felt like I was in a fine dining restaurant whiteout being stuffy. Been saying I want to try The Tavern for years and I am glad I finally did, and sorry I didn't sooner.
We had a 7:00 reservation on a Saturday night. We showed up at 7:00 and we were seated immediately. The decor is somewhat eclectic but nicely done. Our waitress was friendly. There were a lot of choices on regular menu and the specials menu. I had the steak and lobster which was very good!
The ambiance, food and service were excellent. I love their organic tonic water in my vodka & tonics. The seasonal soft shell crab and my scallops entre were excellent.
Probably our worst experience with a restaurant. When we got there, we got a nice dish of bread, spread and butter. My wife dug in and ate a piece with the spread and I go in for a piece and my bread has a swarm of ants crawling all over it and I immediately tell my wife to stop eating! We get the waiter's assistant attention and he immediately takes our bread and dishes away. Our waitress was amazing and apologized for the incident. She is pretty much why we are not giving this a 1 star review. As we wait for the manager to come out and talk with us and apologize for the incident (one that I don't think should go lightly, especially since my pregnant wife just ate some bread that was with a piece that had ants all of it). We decided to stay for some reason and continue to give it a chance. The entrees were great, but we still couldn't shake off the incident earlier and how the manager was still refusing to address the problem directly. We eventually asked the waitress if she had talked to the manager about the issue earlier.. maybe he just wasn't aware? Nope, she said he was aware as soon as it happened.. hmm.... Turns out the manager has been the guy helping with small stuff at the tables and entrance, walking back and forth by us all night, and even took our desert order.. and he STILL refused to address the situation and apologize for the incident. What kind of management is that?? So I had to grab his attention as he walked by one last time and talk to him about the issue.. he pretty much said that he had confidence in his waitress taking care of the situation and make sure it was a localized issue. Okay, the waitress did her part.. but still I would assume as a MANAGER and an incident like ours, that is YOUR job as well to come to the consumer and address the problem. Why should we even have to tell him that?! He should know better. We payed $30+ each for our entrees and we expected way better of an experience. Pretty unreal.
They had a table waiting for us... we sat right down. We had drinks within minutes and the service was OUTSTANDING! The food was delicious and they even surprised us with desert for my friend’s birthday! Just amazing!
This is a hometown favorite of ours but we only seem to get there a couple of times a year. It never disappoints. Great food, wine, service and intimate dining.
2nd time here....service was a little off this time. Forgot my wife's lobster tail...we were pretty much finished with dinner when it arrived, wife said it was overcooked. That said they did the right thing and did not charge us for it. Also brought wrong wine...it happens. Once we got the right bottle it was outstanding and reasonably priced given typical markup. Still not as good a experience as our 1st time here, but not bad enough to avoid. I get the sense they were just understaffed this weeknight.
