That was our first time at this rastaurant. It is very modern and fancy inside, patio is also nice. The only thing is that service is a bit slow.Overall good experiance
I thought the food was average for the price. The famed honey butter fries were bland and the salmon was overwhelmed by the kale that was served with it. Our cocktails weren't anything special either - too sweet. However, the ambiance and our server were both good, so giving three stars for that.
We always enjoy our dining experience at Next of Kin.
This was my second visit. I took my mother this time because I inherited the foodie status from her. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. She was so grateful that I ordered the Honey Butter Waffle Fries for us to share! My entree during the first visit was the avocado toast with smoked salmon. This visit I ate the Egg White Omelette. My tastebuds are ever thankful! I’m planning a third visit!
Took advantage of the lovely day and enjoyed a table outside for brunch with a friend. The Brussels are always delish and the entrees did not disappoint. My friend had the avocado toast which was anything but “boring” and I devoured the healthy veggies hash-so yummy!
Awesome unique entrees and desserts. Friendly service
Great location, great seating arrangement (were sitting outside), convenient street parking just outside. Service was prompt and cordial. Food presentation and taste are wonderful. Prices are reasonable. Recommended!
Everything was good but the fried baramundi was too heavily coated. However, it was tasty.
Lovely outdoor eating area and terrific on a nice day. Food is good. Wish there were more prepared salads for those who dont feel like using the salad bar.
Terrific meal with attentive service. Bar good, cocktails a touch sweet for our tastes.
The food was spectacular. They were very accommodating to my food allergies. I'd definitely go there again!
This is our 5th visit to the restaurant. We have really enjoyed this place and looked forward to our reservation. We were not disappointed by the food but the service was particularly bad, very surprising.
What a great experience! We went to NoK the first time for my wife's birthday. Lots of hype came with us making our reservations, and I'll tell you that it really was worth it.
We opened with cocktails, the crab & avocado, and tuna tataki, perfect for a summer day on their very comfortable patio. From there, we enjoyed several salads, steaks, pasta and, oh yes, the much-vaunted fried chicken.
Is it the best fried chicken I've ever had? Debatable. I've been to Charles’ Country Pan Fried Chicken in NYC and Willie Mae's Scotch House in NOLA. Mmmmm... That said, the chicken was perfectly seasoned, fried, and accompanied with the cheddar chive biscuit and a side of the mashed potatoes. One thing I'd like: gravy. But, even with that, AWESOME. I'm going to call this a top five in the country, and the two aforementioned and my mom's are the top three.
The service is tremendous. They are attentive and friendly without being overpowering or intrusive.
This is a great addition to Evanston's food scene. We'll be coming back again and again.
This is an excellent, casual restaurant with terrific food. We were there late on a Saturday night this time and the service, while friendly, was not up to the restaurant’s normal high standards.
Our waiter Mike was excellent
waited over an hour for an outdoor table when we were told it would be 30-35 min. Waitress was not particularly friendly. We ordered the burrata and had 4 at our table. It came with 3 pieces of bread. We would have gladly paid for an extra piece if the waitress would have told us. Been there many times before and the service was just off on Saturday from the hostesses to the wait staff.
Good food, drinks, service. So glad they’re in my neighborhood.
We went for a birthday celebration on a Monday. The restaurant was almost empty, which was a shame. Our dinners were great and reasonably priced. The service was very attentive, but you might have expected that with so few diners.
We will go back for sure.
This has become a favorite Evanston restaurant; if not my absolute favorite! The design and ambiance of the restaurant is calm, spacious and lovely. The food is always top notch and the cocktails and beverages are unique and tasty. And each person who tends to service makes me feel like Next of Kin. Highly recommend this restaurant!
One of the best restaurants in Evanston. Sophisticated yet approachable. I would recommend this restaurant to any of my friends in the Suburbs or the City
Such a beautiful restaurant and nice staff!
My husband and I went here for our 1 year anniversary and were blown away by the kindness of our server, the atmosphere, and the food. It was a phenomenal experience overall. We will definitely be back!!
I am presently on a very annoying, very complicated modified diet per my physician. It is insanely difficult to eat out but I looked at their menu beforehand to identify a few things that I knew were safe. I have to ask a ton of questions if I eat out (which is why I don’t very often right now!). Our waitress was beyond amazing, not just answering and double checking with the kitchen when necessary but also being INCREDIBLY patient when I usually feel like I’m going to go down in the history of annoying diners.
Food was great as usual but what really stood out was the service that night!
Great food and great company.
Great ambience and choice of quiet familiar music. Friendly attentive staff. All our food choices were perfectly seasoned, creative without being weird. Outstanding selection of cocktails.
I met two friends I had not seen in a long time here for lunch. We spent a long time catching up before we ordered lunch. The staff did not rush us at all. We got great service. One of my friends didn't like the way her eggs were cooked. The waiter took it back and quickly fixed the problem. He was very apologetic. I would recommend this place for a quiet relaxing place for lunch.
It was fine but not great. Based on word of mouth we thought it would be better. There are other places in Evanston I like better. We would probably go back but not as a priority.
Had two great fish dishes and salads and burgers. Everything was fresh and delicious. Not too heavy. Will definitely go there again soon.
Food, drinks and service were amazing! Thanks Suzana for taking great care of us!
Great for brunch.
My husband and I absolutely adore this restaurant. We are here almost every weekend!
The staff is amazing and the chef is a 10/10. All of the dishes are organic, local, real foods and prepared so beautifully. And the drinks are incredible too! The chef often serves guests personally and is so friendly.
The space is so well done also. It used to be a bank! I once saw the restaurant featured in a design/architecture magazine! It is located right in the heart of downtown Evanston and the energy is great! Young, old and everything in between...I recommend Next of Kin to everyone I know 🙌🏼
Had to send back 2 dishes to be done the way they were ordered.
Really a great restaurant!
Undrinkable cocktails. Literally.
Food ... meh. Waffles fries outstanding though.
Second visit I was impressed to see that they effortlessly delivered great food, great service, and great ambiance
Really outstanding food and service in a lively and friendly atmosphere.
Whether for a special occasion or casual, spontaneous dining, Next of Kin always delivers a great experience. The space is beautiful and super comfortable. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and helpful honoring dietary restrictions. I love how the menu features lots of fresh and seasonal options, as well as some more indulgent selections. Plus, the cocktails are sublime. Will continue to return and recommend!!
We have eaten lunch at the Next of Kin many times and always enjoyed it. This time we went with a group of five. The dishes chosen included burger, kale and beet salad and avocado toast. All were deemed excellent.. The restaurant is attractive, light and airy, looking out on downtown Evanston. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful about the menu and suitably attentive during the meal. Another good experience. We will be back.
We went to next of kin to celebrate Father’s Day. I have had great times here before. As had the dad we were celebrating. He ordered fork tender ribs or whatever they were called and TGIF FRIDAYS does them better was the verdict. So they were just meh. My $25 salmon was over cooked and just not good. The kale salad was delicious. And the eclairs were super duper. But for $100, we won’t be coming back except for drinks at the bar maybe.
Hi, Thank you for the candid review. We appreciate your business and will let Chef know your feedback. We hope to earn your business back! Best, Next of Kin Evanston
Excellent experience - fantastic wait staff. Interesting cocktail menu and the food was great -highly recomend
