Nestled in the old Comaltown neighborhood a half mile from the downtown square we are walking distance from Schlitterbahn and both Landa and Prince Solms parks.

Located beneath Gruene’s landmark water tower, in the ruins of an 1878 cotton gin, overlooking the Guadalupe River, the Historic Gristmill has been considered one of the most unique dining spots in Texas for nearly half a century. A rare combination of history, location and turn-of-the-century architecture create the Gristmill’s legendary Texas experience. The menu includes salads, sandwiches, soups, burgers, seafood, steaks and more. Gristmill Restaurant has a private area that is popular to rent for special events such as private parties and wedding receptions.

We’ve dined out a lot, and the Gruene Door ranks among the best food experiences we’ve had! For a starter, the spinach artichoke dip was very cheesy (excellent!) and the lightly-crisped chips were seasoned. The duck was well-flavored, as was the pasta it was served with. And the green beans were perfectly cooked. The salmon was tasty, and the substituted Parmesan truffle fries were perfectly prepared—lightly crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. For dessert, the brownie was soft and marvelous!

The first time I went to this restaurant was such an amazing atmosphere. The manager Frankie was amazing. The service was amazing. Our server or waitstaff was amazing. The food is the best so far I have gone back 6 time and have brought different family members with me. I just love it I am always letting people know about it. Hats off to the chef’s every experience just gets better. Can’t wait for my next visit.
