What Insiders Are Saying
It's summer year round at Summer House Santa Monica. Don your finest Lululemon and chambray in an upscale dining environment.
A highly recommended restaurant not only for the gorgeous ambience but also for the service and food. We had to wait for a few minutes though but it was worth it👍🏻👌🏻
Seats/tables too close; staff & guests constantly bumping chairs. Service - erratic at best. Food - burnt sausage, overdone eggs. Disappointing overall. Bakery - good.
Service and atmosphere were great. Waitress quickly offered a substitute without being prompted. The only reason I gave a four is I thought the food was a bit pricey for a limited selection. My friend’s pasta dish was too salty. Again the waitress immediately stepped up to offer options, including removing dish from our bill.
Athmosphere was great as always. Unfortunately our lunch and coffee was cold and our server was pretty slow and not very attentive
We waited 30 minutes to get seated. Such a wait at lunch is inexcusable.
Great food and atmosphere. We did feel that the wait staff was rushing us though. Clearing our table without asking us if we were done with a couple of things.
It's always a pleasure bringing friends to this establishment to leave them in awe of the fantastic service and great food. Our server David is one of the best; kind, professional, and engaging. Will be returning!
love the ambience. everything was great. server did bring wrong app, but gave it to us on the house and quickly brought out the correct one. will definitely be back.
Food, atmosphere and service were all great! Lanie was our server and she was phenomenal! She really made our experience that much better!
This was our first time at Summer House. We enjoyed the whole experience which was made even better by our server, Lainie. Salmon was prepared perfectly, Simple green salad was a good accompaniment. A cracker or roll would have tasted good. Great place, we’ll definitely return!
The main dining room is so sunny and wonderful. It was a perfect way to feel like it isn’t month 5 of Chicago winter. Yay for inventive mocktails!
I had a staple in my tuna poke.
so good. the atmosphere makes you feel like you’re in cali and the food is fresh and delicious.
The overall experience was fantastic. We brought a friend who was in town for with our 14 month old daughter. The food was great as always and the service was phenomenal! Our waitress was extremely kind and very helpful with our daughter. Even brought our daughter some ice cream :)
Great experience all around!
Food and service were excellent, as always. I love the ambiance of the room. It feels like an outdoor patio even in winter. Our server was excellent, paying just enough attention to us but not hovering. My only minor complaint is that it is very loud, especially in the "inside" area where the ceiling is a little lower but it isn't enough of an issue to keep me away.
I am always too full to get any of the delicious desserts but I plan to make a point of saving room next time for a scone or a giant cookie!
We went for brunch before a matinee at Steppenwolf Theatre. We were seated promptly and the service was excellent. The spinach and kale omelette and avocado toast with poached eggs were delicious. It wasn’t on the menu but I had a good Bloody Mary. We had plenty of time to get to the theater. It was busy so the noise level was high but not enough to spoil our experience.
Very cute place and it feels like you're not in Chicago. Very fun for brunches with your girls and just a nice day date. Beautiful sun room.
We eat brunch here most weekends! Large menu of both breakfast and lunch items. VERY consistent high level of food quality and wonderful service!
Everything was great except the service. Now I get that Sundays are pretty busy but it doesn’t give them the right to ask to take away your plates even when you’re not completely finished with the food yet.
So delicious! Worth the money for sure, waitress was a tad rude sadly- maybe a rough night
Everything was great, but then I caught the servers talking about our table and the one seemed annoyed we were still there. Very confusing because our main server told us to take our time, we had half a glass of wine to finish.
We were seated more than 20 minutes late for our reservation. This would have been forgivable if anyone had let us know they were running late on when we arrived or when we asked the host about our table after waiting for 15 minutes. Instead, the host was dismissive, repeating "I'll text you when your table is ready" even though we were standing right there and "you already checked in." No apology, no explanation. The food was fine, really nothing special.
Loved everything except they didn’t seat us until 30 minutes after our reservation time. Didn’t even get an apology
Arrived at reservation time and stood waiting for 30 minutes for a table....won’t go back
This was an awful experience for us. When we got there, we were herded into the outer lobby which was packed with people. We had a reservation and arrived on time. The servers are arrogant and acted like they couldn't wait for us to leave. Nice birthday celebration, not.
Although we had to white for an extra 20minutes for our table and it wasn’t easily accessible for the walker as requested, Our server was fantastic!
Took a while to get seated even though we had a reservation. Service was just okay. Food was quite expensive for what it was - had the brussels sprouts, burrata, gnocchi, and an ice-cream sandwich on homemade cookies for dessert. I liked the atmosphere: open, active, spacious, but it was quite loud if you're trying to have a conversation.
The Atrium is gorgeous. The atmosphere is classy and lively. The food is absolutely delicious. And on top of it all - outstanding service. Definitely visiting this establishment often. Best thing though - they actually asked before placing the order if we had any food allergies - and marked the food accordingly. Simple considerations like this make a HUGE difference.
We had an exceptional waiter Matt. He was excellent, gave great description of the menu made excellent suggestions and we had a wonderful meal. We will definitely be back to enjoy another great meal with friends!!!
Great service and very kid friendly. Would definitely recommend.
The high chair was dirty. Clearly not even wiped off.
Otherwise food and service good!
So perfect with a perfect summery vibe!! The food was amazing and our waitress was great and attentive!!
Light and airy ambiance that feels like summer despite the drab cold winter. Service is attentive, but not overbearing. We had turkey burger and veggie burger with shoe string fries. Both were a delight. Make reservations to save yourself time. Although if its early enough, there are plenty of cute shops around to visit. We can't wait to go back.
I love this restaurant 😋, especially the sun room.
We were very disappointed... We had a reservation, but the noise, service etc. was uncomfortable. I ordered Brick Chicken and they return to tell e they were all out of it. So, I ordered another chicken dish that came with a small salad on the same plate. The chicken was tasty, but I am not a big eater , the portion was very small and certainly not worth $20-plus dollars. My fiancé had the Salmon, again really small portion for $320plus. Then, I ordered a dessert and they were all out of that, too. We will not be returning.
Great food and service. We tried all of the appetizers and shared them! Delic! Loved the giant cookies for desert! Definitely a “do over”. The only downside is the noise level is pretty high so it’s very difficult to communicate with more than one other person. Otherwise, loved it!
Very enjoyable experience. Can't recall the name of our waiter but he was fantastic
Our waiter was great! Ambiance was OK, we kept looking into the main room that was so brightly lit and wished we were able to sit there. They sat us on the dark side of the restaurant even though only half the area in the lit space was taken. Food was awesome, my husband had the breakfast tostada and I ended up eating half because we both thought it was the best breakfast item we had ever tasted! I ordered the avocado toast but one egg was poached too hard and not runny and the bread was not toasted, it was cold and mushy bread :( luckily we had ordered blueberry pancakes to share and I was able to fill up on that.
I would definitely ask to sit in the brighter room and order the breakfast tostada again! But skip the avocado toast.
The restaurant is a little generic, and a bit expensive.
Salads are good, nice wine list, noise level not bad
