What Insiders Are Saying
It doesn’t get much better than having a Spanish brunch on Terra Plata’s rooftop garden in Capitol Hill. We like it for Monday night paella too.
The food was delicious and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We ate on the terrace and it was pleasant and warm with the heaters. Terra Plata is terrific. All the guests except 2 were from out of town and all said they were so glad they came here.
Excellent service and food. From the host to all the servers, they were all amazing
Terra Plata is defined by its ingredients but suffers from its inability to execute. The many different parts and pieces of the dining experience are, held in isolation, really special. These are obvious things like the origin of the ingredients in the food - Locally sourced, organic, fresh, and truly farm-to-table. They are also less obvious things like the shape of the dining room and the materials that surround you - Uniquely triangular and full of timber and brick. Sadly however, Terra Plata fails to bring any of this together. The building blocks of the restaurant itself are amazing, but the dining experience is mediocre at best. The food itself is wholesome and clearly prepared with great care, but it lacks imagination and tastes incomplete. I can't remember more than half of the half dozen dishes we sampled. The service was terrible - Our server was terse, strangely frustrated, and uninterested in our experience at the restaurant. We wont be coming back.
Food is amazing and service is incredible!
We came here for a special occasion (birthday) and sat on the rooftop terrace. The food was excellent, and our server's recommendations were spot on. The menus were pre-printed with "Happy Birthday" for our group which was a nice personalized touch. Even though the evening was a bit chilly, the heaters on the roof made it an enjoyable temperature. I would definitely recommend this place for an enjoyable, relaxing, delicious meal.
Great food and terrible service especially if you are on the roof but even in the dining room based on our last 3-4 visits.
Fabulous, inventive food, reasonable portions, great service. The food is absolutely the star here. It's a bit noisy and not inexpensive, but it felt like having a personal chef cooking for us.
Elegant ambiance and eclectic range of food choices. They catered to vegetarian diner by modifying some dishes. Nice experience.
Delicious meal with friends. I would return here easily. We had the chicken sandwich, Mediterranean sandwich, mussels and Chacuterie platter. Loved every bite. Very nice service as well.
Group birthday party! A few of the guests it was their first time there and they did not disappoint! The cake, the servers, the food...All Amazing!!!
As always an excellent experience. Service was great and the food solid (shishito peppers and carrot risotto were excellent).
Terra Plata was super accommodating to our large group's needs and even printed personalized menus. The staff were super nice and proactive prior to and during our meal experience.
We went to Terra Plata for the first time last night and loved it. Our cocktails were very unusual, complex, and importantly, delicious (I had the Audrey 2; my husband had the smoke & cinder Scotch one). We shared everything and, with three small plates and 1 main, we had the perfect amount of food for two (skipped dessert and left comfortably full). There was a bit of a lull in service that resulted in their not taken our wine order yet when our food started to arrive. That was promptly rectified, though. We opted for wine by the glass so that we could do red with our starters (e.g., duck, lamb meatballs) and white with our main (fish). They have good by-the-glass wine choices at a reasonable price point ($11-$12). The duck confit was delicious--a bit salty, but I love a salty dish so I did not see that as a demerit! The Brussels sprouts were a standout. With their maple bacon flavor, roasted to perfection, I could have eaten a bucket of them. We shared the steelhead, which was very tasty, but I'm gluten free and neglected to notice that that dish came with cous cous. The waiter overlooked that, too, until presenting it to us. He apologized profusely and offered to have it re-made, but for my needs I was fine just scraping it all off the fish and keeping the plate. So, there were some minor hiccups but overall we loved it and would definitely go back.
Everything was excellent. We chose to share appetizers, get individual entrees and desserts, we had two cocktails and two non-alc beverages. Total before tip was ~$150. I will certainly be coming back. The roast pig (which I'm told is the only item on the menu that is always there) was fantastic. The hand cut fries were just the right thickness and crispiness, and I'm told the cod was very good as well. The blistered shishito peppers were good, but nothing special, but maybe I just don't like shishito peppers. For dessert we got chocolate butterscotch cake with ice cream that was worth every calorie.
I love the Moroccan steak sandwich. My out of town guest was very happy with his meal. Our first visit in 10 years and food can often get lost amidst a joyful reunion but we paused several times to compliment the flavors, plus we appreciated the attentive service and the visit from the chef which turned into a discussion about peppers. I think this was my fourth visit in the past month, is there any better endorsement?
Excellent varied menu with a few unusual offerings. Staff very attentive. Just right noise level
Not a big fan of spicy (sofrito) paella. We are an older couple and we’re seated back by scullery doors. There were many other available tables. This is a usual practice in many restaurants and we did not feel like protesting that evening. Usually, we have had great experiences at Terra Plata. Server, Alicia, was very attentive.
Great service from start to finish. Pricey for portions. Presentation good. Plan on $70 per person before tip.
Best meal I’ve ever had out at a restaurant. Every single bite was absolutely phenomenal.
I liked Terra Plata, the service was very slow even though it wasn’t busy. The only thing that will bother me during brunch is if my glass is empty and I felt like we were just waiting around for our next drink. The food was good, but portions were very small for the price. Very pretty inside and a great location!
This was a second meal in 2 years at Terra Platta. Last time we sat on the roof in the summer. Lovely evening and just two people.
This time, 5 people inside celebrating a birthday on the Saturday after Valentines Day. It was very busy and the energy in the place felt rushed. That was likely cause it was a busy Saturday but as a party of 5 ordering 4 courses 3-4 plates per course, at table for 5, with not a ton of space for multiple shared plates, it felt rushed. We didn't have much time to linger over our various dishes before the kitchen was rushing out another plate and we needed to move along and finish what was on the table to make room for more. This may just be the way it is but we spent a tidy sum and it wasn't a very nicely paced evening. The dishes were sometimes described and sometimes not. Overall the food was very good, but again things were rushed and I am having a harder time recalling the standouts. By the end when the 3 main course dishes arrived we could finally slow down. There were a few stars: The chips, the scallops, the tuna, the pork, the hanger steak, the beat salad, were all very good and well prepared. The broccolini was a little too salty, the risotto was not particularly memorable, the escebe was a boring. The mussels were tasty but would have been better with some bread to mop up the sauce. Our reservation was at 8:00 and we left at 11:00. We finished with a dessert course. It just wasn't particularly memorable and for a birthday dinner that was a disappointment. Would return in the summer for another rooftop smaller dinning experience. Not sure this is the place for a larger party.
Always a great time - we had the brussels sprouts, potato chips, blistered peppers, risotto and churros. We left very satisfied and our server Jeremy was fantastic. If you haven’t been, just go.
Great locally sourced food and ambiance. We had a ball and loved the small plates. The place is abuzz and we had fun. The fish was divine.
We celebrated a birthday with a group of friends. The staff at Terra Plata made the night so special! The personalized menu, great food recommendations and overall friendly and helpful experience made our night really wonderful.
Service and ambiance were great! We loved the gratín appetizer and the scallops. A wonderful place to share a bottle of wine and a lovely meal. Thank you!
Had reservations at 6. We were seated on time, but our drink order wasn’t taken for 15 minutes. The menu wasn’t released ahead of time, and my wife who is a vegetarian had a difficult time finding anything to eat on the limited menu. Throughout the night, we had around 4 different people help us out throughout the night who were asking us the same questions (we were asked if we want any more drinks after someone had just went to retrieve the check).
I've enjoyed Terra Plata many times in the past, especially the rooftop dining in late summer. My husband and I celebrated our 32nd Valentine's Day at Terra Plata last night; it was not up to par. Please see my remarks to the restaurant only.
Valentine’s Day date night
We love Terra Plata, but on this Valentines evening, after making a reservation a week or so in advance I was disappointed to be seated next to the restrooms. Fortunately, the food was delicious, the wait staff perfect, and my honey as sweet as ever. Cass
Tight seating. Food was ok, but not stellar. God local and seasonal food; however, our experience was less than anticipated, especially for the price. Maybe Valentine's day is not the best day to be there. Felt overpriced for very tiny portions and the quality we got at our dinner
Tight seating. Highly recommend just sitting at the bar, that way you don't feel like you're sharing a table... or maybe literally are sharing a table. Otherwise great place. Really good food, convenient walk to downtown or Paramount Theater if you're seeing a show.
Food was great! It felt personalized and my wife and I felt catered!
Terra Plata has a great cozy atmosphere, interesting wine selection, amazing service, along with good food.
Food was exquisite like always, great service and nice ambiance. Highly recommend the duck and the Brussels sprouts.
Awesome food! Brussel sprouts were best we've had. Personalize menu for my birthday! Great service too!
We were on a double date and shared all of the food we ordered. It was all wonderful and we enjoyed the food and ambiance so much. We will come back again and recommend this place for sure!
Wonderful food and service.
Came here before a show at Paramount. Everything about our experience was top notch. I love this restaurant!
First server was very annoyed/aloof when I questioned about the goat cheeses listed on just about every entree. The second server was more friendly. Food was ok. Won't be back.
Monday is paella night and no other food on menu for mains. Waitress got our order wrong more than 4 times. Hair in food. Typically it’s a great experience here but not tonight.
