The Chocolate Sanctuary
Asked for well done steak-got medium well. Didn’t complain because we’d already waited 35 minutes after ordering. Rice was cold and soggy, like oatmeal. Highly overrated restaurant to say the least.
Food was a tad bit pricey but so absolutely worth it. A little slow on service but that’s to be expected for a Saturday night. The staff was as nice as can be. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Service is always most important and they have never disappointed. Always impeccable service. Food is consistently exceptional. However, this most recent Sunday brunch visit on November 11th, they had a HUGE leaf salad and accoutrements on the buffet that took up a LOT of space and no one was eating it. Bring out the caprese salad bites in that space instead! There were no caprese salad bites on our visit this time (10am reservation). It’s a favorite of ours. The omelet station is also kinda slow and could be better somehow (not sure how). The female omelet cook on November 11th at 10am wasn’t that great. Over cooked/burned omelets and very slow/unorganized.
This is, bar none, the greatest Sunday brunch in Northern Illinois if you like great upscale food, pleasing atmosphere, nice music, and fantastic cocktails! If you go, please dress appropriately. It makes it nicer for the rest of us. (One table showed up in work-out shorts and dirty tee shirts, c’mon people!). The beignets are awesome!
We enjoyed our meal very much. The only thing we were dissatisfied with was the garlic mashed potatoes. They almost tasted like instant potatoes. Every thing else was exceptional!
Just a wonderful overall experience between the service and the food.
Had the Lemon chicken. Not very good!
Everything on the plate was soaked in lemon juice.
Others at our table enjoyed the meals they had. They had steak dishes.
Took my friend for a birthday celebration, first time, she loved it.....
Everything was great
This was my third time at the Chocolate Sanctuary... The first two times were awful...food was NOT good.
I have waited some time to return and understand there is new management/chef??
But the third time was definitely the charm. I was with 4 other women and all of us were completely pleased with both our lunch and our service. We will go back regularly I'm sure.
Very nice place. Went for daughters birthday and it was a quiet cozy place. Everyone liked their food (Even one of my daughters grilled cheese looked delicious). We got the chocolate fountain for dessert and my girls were in heaven! We have also been there for their Sunday Brunch. The line can get long sometimes but the food is good. The little touches they add are super cute too.
Great place! The only drawback is that its a little small. My wife and I were sitting at a table that was right next to another table. We still enjoyed our meal but would have preferred a little more privacy.
Yummm, chocolate! So the desserts were fantastic. I also ordered the chocolate themed chicken marsala. Not sweet at all, I think the chocolate just made it much richer.
The wine and specialty drinks were very tasty.
They were very busy on a Saturday night when we went, so service was a little slow. Reservations are highly recommended.
My daughter celebrated her 16 th birthday with a few friends . Everything was perfect .
This was our second visit and we were not disappointed either time. This time my husband and I took our son out to celebrate his graduation from the Navy boot camp near by. We had reservations for an early dinner but right after graduation he received orders to ship out at 3 am. We called and they were accommodating to allow us to dine earlier. The staff dotted on him and really made the day so much more special. We were given samples of the speciality butternut squash soup. They gave him a beautiful dessert with “Congratulations Navy Grad” written in chocolate on the plate. Since we were a bit rushed to return him to base the waitress felt badly and handed him tokens for some of the handmade truffles to take with us. The next day we met him at the airport at 3:30am and gave him all the leftovers to enjoy during his flights to CT and his next school/base. If we are ever in the Chicago area again, we will go out of our way to enjoy their hospitality again.
The dessert chef made custom happy anniversary plates for us, it really helped to make the night more special.
It was our anniversary and the staff made it extra special by surprising us with champagne and chocolates
Great atmosphere, very comfortable and relaxing. Had the prime rib sandwich and clam chowder both were excellent. Will definitely go again.
Fun spot to have dinner! At first, I wondered how they incorporated chocolate into the menu and would it be too much. The menu was fantastic! My favorite was the butternut squash soup that had a very slight dusting of cocoa--it was phenomenal. The chicken marsala was outstanding as well as the salad with "chocolate balsamic vinaigrette--just a hint of chocolate that made it perfect. The dessert was, of course, my favorite--chocolate molten cake, homemade on premise.
We'll be back. What a nice treat. And, if you don't like chocolate, there's plenty of non-chocolate options.
We had a great time, great atmosphere and very great service!
First time here and was very impressed. The service was excellent and the food was very good. Had the filet and it was delicious. Give it a try
Wonderful food. Excellent drink and food recommendations by Thomas our waiter. Chocolate Old Fashioned and beet/goat cheese salad were fantastic!
Had an amazing anniversary dinner every dish was flavorful and cooked to perfection service was great and friendly. Cant wait to return and try more of the menu.
I love to cook and expect a meal out to surpass my ability. We were not disappointed. The entires and desserts were unique and delicious. The waitstaff was attentive but not intrusive. We are looking forward to our next visit.
I especially like their fixed price lunch. Ask for Blake if you want exceptional service.
Outstanding menu, service and ambiance. My 5-yr. old granddaughter wanted a chocolate fountain for her birthday and, rather than do that with 24 kids at her party, our family met at Chocolate Sanctuary instead. I was a little worried that ours wasn't the standard group for the restaurant but they could not have been more accommodating. We came in early and never felt out of place. Christin was friendly and knowledgeable, with great recommendations on our choices and portions. The food (especially the carrot and curry soup) was wonderful, and the hit of the night was the fountain. The quality was evident from dinner rolls to dessert. I am already planning a trip back for brunch with my girlfriends. Thank you for making everyone from 5 to 65 happy!
Fantastic experience. Staff is wonderful, food uniquely delicious. Great ambiance.
Went for lunch on Sunday - I thought I could order from the lunch menu I saw on line - but on Sunday they only offer a buffet brunch. Worked out well - excellent buffet that including cut to order steak, made to order omlettes, bacon, and excellent dessert - all for $25 per person
We took my aunt and uncle so it was their first time. we’ve been there many times. And they just loved it Yep. From the service to the food to the desert is just wonderful. Very different experience than other restaurants. They have the best butter nut squash soup in the world.😀👍👍👍
The food and service was great. We have been here several times, and have always had a great experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
There's always a little touch of cocoa in everything. That's what makes this place so great. Reasonable prices, a good atmosphere and a interesting menu make it special. Almost forgot about the great chocolates they make.
Great place. Will definitely come again. Menu was awesome
We celebrated our 25th anniversary here and had a great time.
Enjoyed celebrating our birthday there. Food was great, service outstanding. Fun lunch with a group of friends.
Brunch Is always a great experience. The mini pastries are delicious
We had a very enjoyable night out at Chocolate Sanctuary. Great food and great service!
I thought that every item would contain chocolate, however, that is not the case. The squash soup, however, was delicious. They said chocolate was in. I did not taste it.
Limited menu - but what we ordered was great. The table was too small for 2 people & even with a reservation was seated by the door. Due to the small table we ordered an appetizer & 1 entree. 2 desserts of course. Felt uncomfortable where we were seated
Great food and service, chocolate themed, of course. What more could a girl or guy want? If you're a chocoholic, this is the restaurant for you and yours.
We have brought several friends to The Chocolate Sanctuary because of ambiance, unique menu, value. Totally a zen experience. Courtney waited on us Saturday 12:15pm. We raved about TCS to a couple we wanted to treat to a unique chocolate experience. They ordered martinis, we order wine. Courtney was informative at the beginning an appeared to be conscientious. She was late in bringing the rolls...she did not refill water glasses...when I had her package the takeaway which was 1/2 turkey cranberry sandwich on flatbread and vegetables and the bread that was not eaten because it came late...it was all "dumped" in a takeaway container. No thought was taken in NOT putting cooked vegetables with bread. When we got home, all bread was soggy, it looked like a pile of garbage. The care and pride taken by the chef was ruined by the thoughtlessness of the server.
Waitress was awesome but my rainbow trout was very fair
Everything surpasses my expectations, however, it was freezing in the restaurant. If it were warmer, it would have been even better! I will be back!
