My first bad experience here. We were forced to sit in auxiliary back seating area even tho we were there early and had a reservation. Zero ambience. Main dining area still wide open when we left. Terrible. All food only luke warm. Skimpy portion of root vegetables not even edible.

The service was very slow, so much so the manager comped our desserts, which was nice, but dinner turned into a 3 hour affair. My salmon was great, but my husband was very disappointed with his steak.

Dinner before a show. My mother and I had dinner at The Chocolate Sanctuary on Saturday before heading to the Genesee Theater. Unfortunately, that space itself, is the only thing it has going on. Our server/bartender greeted us right away, on the second trip told us about the specials, and 15 minutes later, finally asked to take our drink order. We put in our dinner order at the same time, since we had been waiting so long. We ordered the chicken drumsticks, which mom liked, the popcorn shrimp that were extremely salty and didn't have any sesame flavor, nor did the lemon aioli taste like lemon, and a chop salad w/ chicken and flavorless dressing. The portions are smaller, they match the price point, so it is ok. I asked for an espresso to go, since things were moving so slow. It took at least 15 minutes for it to arrive and it was cool enough for me to just shoot it, not hot at all. We waited so long for our server to run the card, I finally hand to hand it off to the bartenders myself. Again, cute space, in the right location, but The Chocolate Sanctuary is not worth a second visit.

We loved the food and service. Seating is another story.

When you walk in the front door, it seems so cozy and inviting. Then we were taken to our table in the new section. I felt like we were at a different restaurant. It was cold and they had a large screen TV with music playing. No décor on the walls just the tv. This area could really use some "warming up."

The food was good and fun. The server we had was fair. He was slow and he didn’t return at the end of almost 2 hours. We would have liked coffee and desert, but didn’t want to sit any longer. He apologized, said he was doing silver in th kitchen. I don’t think his boss would have found this a viable excuse.

Food was delicious and plentiful. Waffle pops were fun. Service was friendly. One dish I almost overlook but glad I try was the oatmeal. I could eat that everyday for breakfast. Cervich was another not to miss. The ribs were dry but the bbq sauce save them. Sweets were wonderful. I would have liked hot tea include with brunch instead of add on. I will definitely go again. And recommend chocolate sanctuary to friends.

We were in the north Chicago area for the weekend and found this special treat on TripAdvisor. The Sunday Brunch was a fabulous selection of deliciousness! Everything from chocolate bacon to waffle pops to carved meats to shrimp cocktail to custom made omelets. We will be back next time we are in the area!

I am a chocolate lover, so my husband took me to The Chocolate Sanctuary for my birthday. Our waitress was very kind and the atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious (and for a great price too). I absolutely loved the birthday surprise that was prepared for me by the restaurant! Thank you so much for helping to make my birthday so wonderful!

Had to wait 25 min past resvervation for a table. Service was great, some food was good, some not good, and some way undercooked - hamburger ordered medium served rare. Fries cold/limp.

Seemed very busy so perhaps we just got unlucky.

Fantastic food and very professional service. We arrived right when they opened for Sunday Brunch. The hostess seemed a bit overwhelmed placing everyone at their tables. We were seated in a back room that has very little ambiance or atmosphere. The rest of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. We will definitely be back!

Very friendly and inviting hosts with a knowledgeable server. He really understood the different parts of the menu and how they would pair together( such as beer, cocktails and wines with apps and entrees. Presentation was beautiful, and food was just as good as it looked. And then there was dessert - the best part of the evening. Price was a little high. But no more than a good steakhouse. Highly recommend, but even with 2 inches of snow piling up outside, it was full by 7pm. Make a reservation.

Went last night to celebrate our daughter's 26th birthday, it was her choice and our first time here. We were seated fast and our waiter Michael was fantastic. He answered all our questions and made sure he was always around but did not hover over our table. My salmon was excellent, my wife's whitefish trio was cooked to perfection. Our daughter's T-Rex short rib lived up to it's name and was well cooked to melt in your mouth. The deserts were to die for if you're a chocolate lover. Over all the service was top notch, from our server Michael to the others who kept our water glasses full and cleared out plates. Everyone should experience this well managed and pleasurable dining.

Thank you, Allison! My family of six came here to celebrate my birthday. I reserved ahead on OpenTable, and requested a table (not booth), and an accommodation so we could have a quiet conversation. Wishes fulfilled. Allison was our server, and her cheerfulness, dedication to making us happy, and her going the extra mile to get information we wanted made us have a wonderful evening together. We found the food portions to be as expected, and the flavors were delicious! Despite a little confusion at times getting the right dishes to the right people, these were very quickly corrected with smiles all around. We got there early, and the place filled up around us. We never felt rushed. To top it off, I received a fabulous happy birthday dessert. One of the best I have ever had! Highly recommended.

I have driven by this place several times over the last three years. I was unsure about a chocolate restaurant so waited to try it out. Boy was I wrong! We loved this place! Everything was wonderful! The wine we selected was no longer available. So, the manager came to our table with two options for us to try. She allowed us to taste both and then gave us a very generous glass of the one we selected. She also came back to the table and gave us a token for a truffle. The soups we ordered were delicious. The two entrees we ordered - chicken marsala and salmon - were expertly prepared and a wonderful blend of flavors. The ambiance and noise level were just right and made for a nice intimate atmosphere for dinner. We are definitely going back!

Probably because it’s in the suburbs this place was nearly empty when we arrived at 5:50 for a 6 PM reservation. We were a little concerned, but sat down. The place is quite large. We ended up sitting in the back room behind a gas fireplace that has purple colored flames in a window box where you can see the flames from either side. The tables are dark, the lighting is semi muted, so it’s not crazily bright but not dark either. Overall it’s a pleasant ambience from a visual perspective.
What really threw me off and brought down this review were two things - the way the food was plated and the really bad, dirty rug smell that was permeating the air in the back room. It is a well-known tenant of the restaurant business that you don’t put carpeting in a restaurant unless you are so high-end that you can clean it (meaning shampoo it) every single night. This place is too big with too many people dropping food to be able to clean the carpet well enough.
The service was very nice, they didn’t have two of the draft beers on the menu but they had a third that worked. The pear martinis were fantastic, slightly sweet but not too much, with a nice lime tartness. A thin slice of D’anjou pear topped it. Our fourth diner ordered a Manhattan straight up but they brought it on the rocks. He did not request that it be changed. Another smallish strike.
The bread service needs to be changed to heat the bread in a regular oven. It came out wrinkled and wet and so fast after sitting down it seemed obvious they used a microwave. They need to offer regular butter along with the very low salt chocolate butter. One more strike.
Beet salad was really nicely seasoned. Calamari appetizer was too small for the price. Ribs tasted warmed over. Green beans on my plate were not good looking, some brown, some green. Roasted root vegetables looked haphazard too but were tasty. The pork chop was overcooked (last strike) but the cocoa bbq sauce was tasty. Hard to return due to rug smell.

I have been here a dozen times or more, usually for special occasions. It is sadly inconsistent. Our waitress was kind and knowledgeable but for a not so busy night each course took was too long.

My daughter who came in on crutches and obviously in pain was the last to be served her meal. Chicken tenders. I think our waitress was as baffled as we were.

Scallops, salmon and filet’s were exceptional as always but one of the pasta dishes was over salted and didn’t resemble the description on the menu. All in all the experience was not great due to the delays. Almost a 2 hour dinner.

I visited the ChocoIate Sanctuary for brunch and felt the food was mediocre as was the service. Some items were tasty like the omelets cooked to order. There was not a wait at this station. However, the "wafflepops" - which were very popular - and also cooked to order, involved a long wait. Patrons were given a number, so they could return to their table while the "pops" were being cooked. My daughter's "pop" was not ready before we had to leave about 20-25 minutes later. Deserts varied in tastiness and my friend and I were never offered a second cup of coffee and had to ask for it.
While the atmosphere was attractive, I would not likely return.
