The Chocolate Sanctuary
Although we had made reservations we were not seated until 1/2 hour later. Then no server for at least 10 minutes. It was much noisier than I remember in the past, but then there was a group near us celebrating a bday and having fun. Perhaps not enough servers showed up because refills , taking dirty plates ( brunch buffet) was slow. But as always the food was excellent. Although the omelette was very good, we come for the chocolate infused ribs, bacon, and the chocolate pastries. I had planned on trying the nutella waffle on a stick but was too full for any more. I have only come to the Sunday breakfast buffet but looking forward to attending the once a month afternoon tea party.
3rd time here and not disappointed. I have done their brunch each of these visits.
We decided to order appetizers rather than entrees to essentially have shared tapas and were thrilled. The cocktails were amazing as well. We will be sure to visit this restaurant again soon!
A phenomenal experience! So very classy and warm. Food was outstanding and service was impeccable! We definitely will be returning.
We had a lovely Birthday lunch to celebrate my Mom’s 82nd Birthday! Wonderful food, service and ambience.
Awesome place! Awesome food! Terrific staff! Highly recommend!
This was our first time going to this restaurant. We went for the brunch. It was simply delicious. I would go back just for the prime rib and waffle pops. They were delicious. Our waitress was just a bit slow in getting our requests and the only draw back is the wait in line for the omelets and the waffle pops. But overall, the brunch was an excellent value for the money. The restaurant was not too crowded when we got there, but was pretty full by the time we left. Try the brunch.........we will be going back for it.
We went to Sunday brunch. The setup is HORRIBLE. You have to wait in a very sow moving line to get an omelette, waffles and carving station items. But the worst part is you can’t even get bacon without waiting in that same line. Or scrambled eggs. The line never seemed to get shorter. The self serve items are mostly pastries and shrimp cocktail. They need to offer scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage in the self serve stationss. I get the impression they want you to fill up on the pastry items by making the hot entrees harder to get
This place was amazing for brunch! What a great menu and great service! You would be absolutely insane if you did not give this place a try!!!
we had the trio of salmon, shrimp, excellent
we had to ask for the bread which was wonderful with chocolate butter and chocolate rolls
the squash soup was delicious
we loved the chicken lollipops appetizer could have made a meal out of them
agnes our waitres was wonderful
dessert was was spectactular chocolate over dry ice that covered the table like a cloud
cannot wait to go back
One of our favorite restaurants. Had our second dinner there, and ever since we keep coming back with every special occasion we have.
Great food and really good service! Provided special presentation for our anniversary dinner with friends! Nice touch!
They have the best grilled cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. Four kinds of cheese oozing out of crispy bread. Not a small size either.
Our preferred restaurant when we are driving through from 120 miles away.
Super pleased with the Chocolate Sanctuary for any meal!!
First time that some of the food was dry. Think it wasn’t changed soon enough. Most of the food was the regular high standard.
Nice place, but bring a fat wallet or credit card with lots of head room. 4 people for this Sunday’s Brunch was $132... had dinner that same day, again 4 people, at Giordano’s $62. Just sayin’.
Seated 25 minutes late with reservation, drinks and bread 20 minutes later. Service overall mediocre and very slow, but they were pleasant. Some of food was great but other was real bland. Expected more. Special included veggie that was out of season - poor choice. Nice ambiance.
Cute gimic with the chocolate. Way overpriced for what you get. $32 for 4 shrimp 1 piece dried out fish and a scallop.
Its in gurnee not chicago. Waitress tried hard though crowded. Seated late with reservation, food took a while to arrive.
Great food and service was outstanding! Nice touch in recognizing two couples anniversaries!!!
I have introduced 3 friends to your special events on Wed, nights. All have come away with having a wonderful time and a new experience in culinary events. Keep it up. Your special events have been missed in the past few months.
We went for a birthday brunch on a Sunday morning. Our table was ready in arrival, and we had a fantastic celebratory brunch: food, drinks, and service were great! I definitely recommend.
Food was great - really loved the hanger steak! Our service was just ok. We didn't see our server as often as we needed to and after dropping dessert menus, we waited almost 30 minutes before asking to speak to a manager. By that time no one wanted dessert anymore and we just got the check. Would go back for the food & hope the service improves or it was just an off night.
Food selection and service (Thomas) was excellent. Have dined there one other occasion and will return.
The food, service, and delicious and one-of-a-kind deserts which is great for allages
Took our Navy bootcamp graduate here for a celebratory family dinner. The food and drinks were fabulous, and they made his accomplishment feel special.
We were in town for son's boot camp graduation and saw on Open Table. We were greeted warmly and they treated our sailor very well. Food was good, our server was excellent. Kitchen messed up the timing on one dinner so that was really the only complaint. Good, reasonably priced wine list. The cocoa menu is interesting and tasty. Overall I'd recommend
The food and service were exceptional. What a lovely restaurant. And one of the best looking restaurant ladies room!
I've been here a few times for lunch and for brunch. The brunch is my favorite and I was excited to bring my 88 year old mom, who absolutely loved it. Never saw her go so crazy over a restaurant meal. Our waitress asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, and we jokingly said that my mom was marking her 1/2 year birthday (She says at her age, it matters!) The waiter brought out a a beautiful chocolate mousse dessert at the end of the meal with "Happy 1/2 Birthday" written on the plate! This wonderful restaurant is doing a great job maintaining their quality and uniqueness.
A number of tables were celebrating special occasions when we went but they made sure to look after everyone with even the hospitality manager stopping at most tables to make sure everyone’s needs were met. We went when we found out we were expecting and went again this last time to celebrate closing on our house. The staff there is incredibly friendly and the chocolate fountain dessert (and tiramisu, etc!) is divine! We will be back!
the only problem I had was even though I had a reservation, I had to wait for them to accommodate my baby with a high chair. The host seemed to forget us,but the very professional manager stepped in.
the chocolate brownie and gelato both were the best I've ever had.
the crowd was not very diverse, but welcoming.
Also another host seemed to be eyeing my misbehaving 1 year old like she couldn't believe he was talking loudly, umm he's 1, I wanted to tell her. So if you bring young kids please have thick skin for some who may think you should have left them at home!
WE will be back soon!
Every meal I have ever had there was delicious and inventive (those 2 often don't come on the same plate!)
We've been here a handful of times during our first year living here--seated at both the bar and in the restaurant--so it's obviously a favorite. I haven't had a bad dish yet, though some are better executed than others. (The ceviche, for example, is tasty, but the ingredients really need to be cut into more bite-sized pieces--it's hard wrangling a full piece of calamari and a longish skewer of yellow pepper.) Our waitstaff has always been amazing and friendly, but if they're busy it may take a bit longer for the check than normal. They handle minor requests easily (like splitting a milkshake for two kids or a dinner between a couple) and do a lovely little surprise plate for special occasions. We've been happy with every visit and will continue going back!
We had the best experience! The food was incredible, - so unique and every bite was more delish than the last! The drinks are as tasty as they are ecstatically appealing - chocolate martinis like you have never tasted before! I gave service a 3 star because, while our server was amazing, they were very clearly understaffed and I didn't feel like the Manager was stepping in to help our server. He had to work an event, our indoor section, and the outdoor section! Our food came quick (and hot) but we ordered desert and waited 45 mins for our plate and my 2nd drink. Our server was a rockstar and this was NOT his fault - he needed HELP! When he brought the check he comped the dessert and apologize profusely. It was truly a remarkable evening and we plan to go back soon.
Butternut squash Homemade daily is wonderful. They have other soups to and they’re all excellent. Food is excellent.Fantastic desserts also
An amazing find...... When you first walk in you’re greeted an welcomed. The menu was explained and the daily specials. We opted to start off with lollipop chicken. It was lick smacking good! We ordered crusted coated salmon and t-Rex short rib (it was more like the long rib) both were delicious. Sides were also very tasty! On the specials for the day was a dark chocolate smore we had already decided on that dessert, the waiter came by with a dessert menu we opted for 3 more desserts. We took home left overs.
The Chocolate Sanctuary provided a wonderful anniversary dinner. Our server Allison was friendly and took care of every question and request. The manager stopped at our table to chat and offer congrats. We were surprised with a decorated plate with a message (in chocolate of course) and complimentary dessert and Champagne.
The ambiance was great! It was cozy and the service was friendly. The lunch menu offered a good choice of appetizers and entrees. I love the soup, sliders and the fries I had. They were simply yummy! The little chocolate treat was a sweet way to wrap up the lunch. I love it!
