The Chocolate Sanctuary
Very nice excellent chicken lollipops!!! Very nice and romantic. Very upscale dining
The BEST rolls and chocolate butter. Have enjoyed everything I have eaten here.
We had a 7:45 reservation during restaurant week. We were seated promptly... but then forgotten for maybe 15 minutes. Server was apologetic and blamed miscommunication. So the evening started off on the wrong foot. We also seemed forgotten between mains and desserts; my wife was ready to walk out.
The hostess offered us gratis truffles to take home, which we did. She offered first to comp an app but those were part off the restaurant week menu already.
Food and cocktails were good -- like our past visits -- but the service lapses soured the experience for us this time.
My partner and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary at the Chocolate Sanctuary. Our server was very kind and attended to everything we need. We received a small desert and drink for our anniversary. We had an amazing experience here and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Great night with amazing food. This place never disappoints.
Our server,Jillian was outstanding. Added much to our evening. Thank you.
Our server was great. Food was great. Easy to find. Will be back.
Slow service. Great food
We did the restaurant week menu & the dinners took about 45 minutes, the waiter told us they were having technical difficulties. we watched other tables get their dinners. When ours did come out they were not good at all. We had to ask the hostess for water. Over all not worth the special pricing even though it made the place affordable.
Only comment I can make is "try this place!". We've been driving by it since they opened always telling ourselves that it sounds intriguing. We loved it, the chicken with mole was outstanding, the pork tenderloin was as well. Our server, Thomas, was great. We went during Lake County Restaurant Week and we will be returning.
Calm and soothing atmosphere. Great for girls lunch. Great to come for a late evening dessert. And everything in between
Buffet selection was very limited for $25 Staff was very friendly.
If you go for brunch be sure to get their waffles on a stick. They make several different flavors every week. They are delish.
When we arrived for brunch we were taken by the hostess to a seating area outside of the main restaurant. We were initially the only people in this far room. It was like a banquet room without all the nice ambiance of the main restaurant. Then a few others were added. The main restaurant where the brunch was set up was not full. Our reservation was 10:30 and the restaurant opened at 10:00. One family wouldn’t accept a table in the room where we were put. My husband and I have eaten at the Chocolate Sanctuary many times but never felt disappointed about our table location and ambiance.
The food was delicious as always and the service was very good too.
It was Restaurant Week and very busy so service was a bit slow but the food was outstanding. Will definitely go back. Special menu included appetizer, entree and dessert for $25. What a deal!
We had a reservation at 7:45, unfortunately they were very busy and couldn't seat us (9) until almost 8:45, but they were extremely apologetic and provided us with complimentary appetizers and dessert. They were very attentive and concerned with our comfort and satisfaction, and we were happy with the outcome. The food was very good and the atmosphere was great. I would definitely return as they have great customer service.
Took advantage of restaurant week special. The offering really was a good deal with a starter, main, and dessert for $25. The starters were all outstanding, the mains good, but surprisingly the desserts uneven. I personally wouldn’t have chosen this had it not been for restaurant week, but I was pleasantly surprised.
First time there. Waitress was great but kitchen was backed up. Sat down at 7:25 and didnt get food until 8:45 and when it came out it was cold. My meal was taken off the bill. Hoping this was just a fluke so I will go back again.
We had reservations at 6:45 didn't sit down till 7:20. We order food right away and at 8:30 we asked why the food was taking so long and she said your up next. Well 9:00 came and still nothing we had to flag someone over to ask where our food was and she said it will be out shortly. We left at 9:10 without our food. 2 hours and no food. The manager came by and hardly seemed to care that we waited so long. Very disappointed!
This was a great place to bring the family we came in for a late lunch and had small plates and soups which we enjoyed , the chocolate bread put on the table was much appreciated by the smaller children too. The mark down was only because the condition of the female bathroom, though I could see that it generally was well maintained it wasn’t nice to bring my small child into to use that day I’m affraid but the staff were very good when we complained and accommodated my older children after that.
The chicken drumstick appetizer was wonderful.
A very strange first visit. Went for restaurant week and had the special menu. The kitchen had major problems. Our entrees came almost 45 mins after we were done with our appetizers. We they came my wife's salmon was only warm at best. My pork was virtually raw. It was sent back. A new order came about 20 mins later. It was fine. The desserts were also fine and timely.
The manager was however great. When the initial delay happened she comped us each a piece of candy for carry out. Then when the pork was badly cooked she comped the meal. I always appreciate a restaurant which steps up to fix a problem. The front staff did just that. We will visit again to give this restaurant a second chance.
The food was interesting. The chocolate influences worked for us on a few dishes-for example the bbq sauce on the chicken wings- but not on others- the sauce on the pork. The desserts were very good.
The kitchen problems were substantial but the manager was great even without us complaining. That is great service. Like I said a strange 2 1/4 hour evening.
We went before the dinner rush but server was very attentive
The Sunday brunch was amazing! Would recommend to all. Waffles pops were awesome and who can turn down creme brulee in a buffet? Not me...
I went on a Saturday, which can explain why the customer service was slow and somewhat poor. But, it does not explain why my food was EXTREMELY plain. I ordered the Chicken Marsala, and it has absolutely no flavor. Wish the chefs would learn what spices are.
I loved the warmth of the fireplace on the cold Chicago land evening. The Chocolate/Cocoa infusion was just perfect, not too savory, not too sweet. The Mole Chicken was truly amazing. Some dishes that I had seen on the website (Seafood Trio) were not in their menu - I was told they change Menu every 6 months, and the website wasn't updated. While they offered to try making the missing item, I decided to opt for the Whitefish prepared 3 ways. The dessert was the best, as it should be fitting their name. The Sanctuary Turtle Mousse in a Misting display made our day.
0verall the lunch was very good, However when I made the reservation I mentioned we were bring a
guest with a Birthday. When I arrived I mentioned that we had a guest who we were celebrating birthday
however the never mentioned it and that was not the first time we brought someone for a birthday and they forgot. I would suggest that if your taking someone out for a special occasion the Chocolate Sanctuary may not be the place to go. I was disappointed with the failure to follow up.
A great place for brunch, lunch and dinner!! Service is wonderful too!!
Everything was excellent I will definitely will be back there again .
We had one of the U shaped tables near the bar for just the 2 of us. It was odd. Not a great table or location. Service was slow. Took a while for everything even in the beginning when it wasn’t busy. We’ve had much better experiences here in the past. Food was decent but we’ve had much better there before as well too.
Restaurant served a Valentines Day menu with a sampling of favorites. We tried the cocoa rib appetizer, whitefish and salmon entrées which were very good. Complimentary birthday chocolate mousse was wonderful. Excellent service. Definitely will return
The food was amazing as was our waitress (Jillian)! The chocolate bread was to die for and she made sure we got some to take home with us. We did have a reservation and I recommend making one. When we got there at 5:45, they were saying that the next opening was after 8 pm. I would request a table in the room with the fireplace. We got seated on the side room (and even in the smaller room off the side room) and it had a totally different vibe. The fireplace room seemed cozier and felt more upscale. I will say the side rooms did seem quieter so it depends on what type of experience you want.
Our food was great (ribs/wings for appetizer, scallops for dinner for me, and my fiance had hanger steak). The German chocolate cake martini and tiramisu martini were also good (tiramisu was not as sweet which was nice for after dinner).
Our dessert was fantastic! The brownie was out of this world and the misting dry ice display was so cool!!! We will be back!
This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We celebrated a few days after Valentine's Day and were able to choose from the special menu.
They have a great menu and great service. Loved the chocolate rolls with the chocolate butter.
The Chocolate Sanctuary is an intimate restaurant where we immersed yourselves in their creative and delicious food - all touched by chocolate - even my martini. My family and I couldn't have selected a more appropriate place to celebrate my birthday. Kudos to Blake our waitress who helped the newbies navigate the menu, while being attentive and sharing in our fun. We'll definitely return!
Appetizer was very salty that I had to drink a glass of water to wash it down.
I’m sorry i really had high expectations after viewing everyone’s reviews & pictures but ur food was 45 mins late to show up cold/room temperature. My husband ordered a scallop dinner to get 3 small scallops & 2 pieces of carrot worth $30? I think appetizer we’ve ordered in the past were double this dinners size. Same with my steak dinner which was almost $40 literally 3 spoons worth of mashed potatoes few broccoli strings to go with 3oz steak if I’m correct. The food tasted great but for the price/size & wait i wouldn’t go back . I am happy that our waitress & her service was fenominale she did apologize for everything and had the food remade as well as brought us soup & dessert on the house & gave us 50% off the bill for the cold food . And let’s just say this was supposed to be a romantic dinner for Valentines Day.
Nice atmosphere. Excellent food and service. Menu changes regularly so it’s always fresh.
We really enjoyed our Valentine's weekend dining this year! The menu was creative and delicious and the service was excellent.
