Situated in Lingfield, home to the famed eponymous race course, The Hare and Hounds public house and restaurant has long been at the centre of the local community. A large blue painted old building given a whole new lease of life by its current owners, The Hare and Hounds remains full of charm and character, some of it integral to the pub but much thanks to the eclectic and quirky interior design in which boudoir chic meets country style meets gentlemen’s lounge. Outside, enjoy al fresco dining on decked terraces surrounded by greenery – the perfect way to relax during a lazy summer evening. The Good Food Guide 2010’s Pick of the Pubs, The Hare and Hounds not only offers a great line in drinks, ranging from the best local real ales to unusual wines from across the globe, but a stunning menu inspired by seasonal produce and the flavours of both Britain and France. Working with sustainable, local ingredients delivered daily the kitchen creates beautifully presented, delicious dishes.

    This is a great place for foodies to eat. Dining room to the back has been recently renovated and looks very smart. Great food and really friendly yet professional service.

    Although serving some pub classics, definitely beyond the average gastro pubs. Some fabulous taste combinations, executed with French flair. Quirky and comfortable, but tends to be quiet during the week. My favourite "pub-restaurant" in the area. Highly recommended.

    We came with high expectations, as this was "the best restaurant in Lingfield". The welcome and service was very pleasant and the atmosphere warm and inviting. I didn't listen to the price of the special beef dish (as the general level of pricing was not cheap, but appeared reasonable) so I was very shocked when I saw it was just under 30 pounds. The crab starter was unexceptional, really poor value with a few clumps of crab strings interspersed amongst the greens and my beef was maybe 150gm - if that !! It was however, tasty. My wife's pork dish was excellent.

    Food was at best average. Expensive and then you have to pay for your sides on top. Chips £4.95!!! Would not eat here again, building needs external decoration as do the toilets. If a pub is full then normally a very good sign - this pub was empty now we know why. Sharpen your act or reduce your high prices. One positive comment the waiting staff were very polite and efficient.

    We ate at the Hare and Hound on Easter Sunday and it was surprisingly very quiet. Although the restaurant was quiet there were a few occasions where we were left waiting for a waitress but overall the service was very good. The only down side is that there are no baby changing facilities at the restaurant so I was encouraged to change my baby on a rather small ledge over the hand basin. There are also no high chairs for babies but they do have a booster seat.

    We were rather disappointed with our evening at the Hare & Hounds. We had to ask for the music to be turned down so we could talk comfortably. There was a draught around our legs. The service was extremely indifferent. We waited ages to place our order despite there being only 2 other diners. We asked for tartare sauce only to be told there was none - surely a staple in most restaurants ? The food itself was fine, but there was generally a lack of concern.

    Always amazes me to discover little gems like this outside of major cities. Couldn't fault any of our courses. Don't waste time on the pub grub, go for the specials. Will be going back soon.

    I love the relaxed feel to this place. My hubby and I decided to grab an early Friday evening supper. We just went for a main course which was Rib Eye Steak and Chips although there was plenty to choose from! The steak was very tasty and not too fatty. A really nice early evening meal in nice surroundings.
