The restaurant, was empty and were placed at a small table up against the wall with the pillar sticking out between me and my wife. The whole other side was wide open and noticed many nicer tables were open as we left.
Thus is the second time I have visited. The first was for a holiday buffet. Tonight was just dinner. Food and service are consistently top notch. Now on my favorites list.
Nice place to eat. Food was very good and wine selection perfect. Restaurant is a bit noisy.
The Stained Glass has NEVER disappointed! Always among the best options we consider for special occasions.
We have been going to the Stained Glass for more than a decade because we enjoy the great food, the fine service and the relaxed ambiance. Our last visit did not disappoint.
We love this restaurant. Excellent food and service. Great ambiance. Love the flights of wine offered too. Perfect night out!
Our waiter Joe was great
Great restaurant week menu but always great food. Love that you carry the Frank Family Pinot Noir, it's one of our favorites and hard to find! Great service, food and wine.
We celebrated a birthday during restaurant week. Our waiter was great and everyone had a great time.
We were 25 minutes passed our reservation to be seated. We felt that the staff at the door couldn’t care less, and our waiter who we mentioned this to just smiled. It will be a long time before we go back to this restaurant, which is too bad, because the food was pretty good.
It was a wonderful experience! Everything was delicious and the service was beyond compare!
We went for restaurant week, which was a crazy good value. Portions were huge on everything. Sauce on the steak frites wasn't my favorite but I loved the creme brulees and salad lyonnaise. Cocktail recommendation was also great. Many more items on the regular menu that I'd be happy to try when I return!
I thought that the food was not anything special. The Lobster Soup broth was delicious although the added lobster didn't help the soup. The crab cakes were OK. I had Baratta Ravioli that was served lukewarm and then when replaces with a hotter entree was not very interesting. My friend had the steak which was well cooked but the fries were limp and lukewarm. The bread was too dry and the butter did not help. The Creme Brulee sampler was delicious but the cheesecake was more cake not cheesecake. I wanted the food to be better.
Attentive service and quality food in a quiet cozy environment to enjoy for 2 or more. Neighborhood gem and worth the drive .
Absolutely fabulous food and atmosphere. Wonderful place for a special celebration!!!
This is normally one of my favorite restaurants. We dined on a Friday night during Restaurant week. The portions were huge. Almost too big. The service for us was REALLY slow. We ordered a drink and then our choices for dinner. We were there 2.5 hours. Other tables came after us and left before us. By the time our entree arrived, I wasn’t even hungry. I will still come back but this time was not the best.
the first time restaurant week, but not very good. Have't got a chance to try steak and fries, but it seems $48 for a $30 main is not that good value, since it's more like a pub food 70% fries with 8 slices of warm beef. desert is average like we can buy from grocery. not too much memory for starter, but soup is tooo salty for mushroom one.
Restaurant week night out, had a great meal! Don’t know why it took us so long to try the place, will go back for a great dinner again.
We were celebrating Special Birthdays, & we also were able to order from the “Restaurant Week “ menu.
The food was fabulous, & service was great also!
Very good service. Food was good. Very filling. Was there for restaurant week.
We have been to Stained Glass many times over the years and this time found the food somewhat disappointing and the servings too large. For example, the shave broccoli salad was excellent but the serving was enough for 3 people.
The food arrived very slowly but they were very aware of the problem and kept us notified and gave us free dessert.
We dined on a Sunday night and there were only 3 tables occupied, so the noise level was very low, which we like. Not sure what the noise level would be when it is full.
Our server was excellent and all the food was wonderful EXCEPT for the steak, which was extremely tough. Don't order it! We enjoyed the flights of wine that were offered as well.
This was one of my favorite restaurants but I have a couple issues with it based on my last visit. I was disappointed that the was only one fish entree. And whitefish? Service was super slow. Otherwise I love the atmosphere.
Tasteful, comfortable environment. Nice high ceilings. Friendly greeting upon arrival. Attentive service, although one item was delayed, and one glass of wine forgotten until reminded.
The food is beautifully arranged on the plate, and very tasty. Outstanding deviled egg appetizer. Excellent dessert choices.
Stained glass is always dependable for a step up from an ordinary dining experience.
I had not been to Stained Glass in a few years and I was disappointed. Aside from the Lobster Bisque, food was flavorless.
This was second time there. We had been there a 5-6 weeks ago. We had the same waitress and she remembered us.
The food and service was once again excellent and we plan to keep Stained Glass in our rotation.
We love this place. It’s been a favorite of ours for many years. It used to be very loud, but they’ve done some changes to the interior that has improved things. I love the flights of wine; a rare treat. The food is always very good, and we have gotten great servers that we have enjoyed very much. This time, our server was Joe...he did a great job! Highly recommend the Stained Glass to all.
Perhaps it was a slow night. Service was very poor, inattentive and cursory. We were never asked how our food was, for example, and that was not because the floor was crowded. Maybe the staff sensed that things were off in the kitchen. The house charcuterie was good, I will say, served with great toasted raisin bread, and we thought that the pecan tart was also good. However, both dishes can be found in better versions elsewhere. The duck breast was good and carefully seasoned, but the leg quarter was sadly overcooked, and neither was "medium rare," as I asked. The endive was nicely bitter, but was not an attractive plate, and the duck was not cooked to order. The artichoke appetizer is enormous and unattractive. The server did say it was not his favorite and we should have taken the hint, that being the one good turn he did for us. I have had better dinners here, but I recall being disappointed in the last one also. I find the enthusiasm of many of the online reviews surprising. The people who like this place the best have very little to say about the food. Stained Glass is off our list. The food is just good to average and on this visit the service was poor. It's cold and dark in there this time of year (January), if comfort makes a difference to you. Not at all recommended.
NYE celebration so the menu was limited but great food. I appreciated that our server worked with the chef to accomodate my daughter's extensive food allergies (eggs, grains) and she still got great food. The wine list is superb and when a bordeaux was off, the staff graciously replaced it with a pour from a fresh bottle. Everything was great but the staff especially made it feel very welcoming for a celebration.
Very attentive service, pleasant ambiente, some of the dishes quite good. It took them three tries to get the steak properly done, however. No excuse for that.
We went to The Stained Glass for New Year's Eve. I was extremely impressed with our meal. Service was superb. The food was exceptional. I have been going to this restaurant since they opened. Knowing that the ground has shifted underfoot for them over recent years, I feel like Stained Glass has regained its stride among one of Evanston's best.
Have had good meals here before, but last night the food was really uneven, a few good dishes, some mediocre and some really bad-cold tough steak with soggy French fries. We were a party of 9. Half of us did not order an appetizer and it took well over a hour for the mains to come. The waiter did not check to see if we needed anything. A very disappointing experience.
Wonderful food and ambiance. A bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
The duck was wonderful as were the salads and the wine choices were perfect. Our waiter was a bit pokey, but we had theatre tickets so needed to be moving along with greater dispatch.
Good. We went after a recommendation.
There is no wonder why the stained glass has been around for so long. Terrific food, amazing drink choices and outstanding service!
My fourth or fifth time eating there, and have never been disappointed. Great wine flights, wonderful food, nice atmosphere, knowledgeable service. Over all, one of the best restaurants in Evanston. They even have plenty of easy street parking right out in front.
