Pros: 1) LOVE the ambiance, always full of people, very lovely places to sit and things to see. 2) Service is top-notch--everyone is very attentive and friendly, even servers who are not serving you! Our waitress, Catherine, was very helpful and friendly. 3) The brussel sprouts with bacon were out of this world! I was skeptical because I am not usually a brussel-sprouts kind of person, but this was great.
Cons: I've always enjoyed the food here, but this visit was disappointing. The calamari had a very interesting combination of flavors but it was chewier than I typically find in restaurants. I ordered the crab cake with warm slaw and fries. The fries were the best part of this dish, unfortunately. The warm slaw was completely tasteless-just warm cabbage with no spices whatsoever. The crab cake was soggy and also flavorless. For dessert, I ordered the egg nog creme brulee and found it to lack flavor and the creaminess I associate with this dish. It was very egg-y and more "chunky" than I was expecting (although chunky is not the right word--that sounds gross, and it wasn't gross, just not creamy and rich, as I expected).
I will come back to give them another chance because maybe they had a bad night. All of the other times I've been here, the food has been quite good. But if the food continues to be like this, I will have to find another restaurant.
The experience once again was very good from the quick and no hassle Valet parking to quick seating to the excellent food quality.
Service was good, but response to special requests like more ketchup was a bit lethargic. I particularly appreciate the water pitcher being left on the table.
Your roast leg of lamb dish needs an automatic additional vegetable. The bean sauce is not an adequate vegetable. The cream of crab soup was delicious. Love your well-lit tunnel and waterfall fish pond! Great atmosphere. Magnificent mahagony wood trim dining room ceiling and art work.
Tower Oaks Lodge is an excellent restaurant for special lunches or dinners. I especially appreciated the quiet atmosphere; no loud music or loud talking. This is very important to me. The food was good and the service was excellent.
This place always satisfies; it has a sophisticated atmosphere while also being intimate. The service is impeccable and the food is exceptional. I would pick this place for different occasions.
The only thing I can point to that was a negative was having a reservation for 8:15 pm and not being seated til 9 pm. Food was excellent and well prepared ansd seasoned. The table service was great; waitress was attentive and responsive.
Reservation for 8:00, upon arrival we were told we could be seated about 9:30 because they were so crowded....what was the purpose of my reservation? I think they could have offered us a free drink in bar to offset inconvenience.
....but not so good at keeping the reservation. We knew that New Year's Eve would be crowded no matter where we went, so we made reservations a few weeks in advance. However, when we arrived at the restaurant at our reservation time, there were literally 100 people in the lobby trying to check in. After about 15 minutes, we were able to make it to the hostess counter, only to be told that the wait would be approximately an hour. This would be an hour after the time of our reservation. The restaurant and bar were both so crowded that we were able to find a corner to squeeze into to wait. In just about an hour, we were texted to let us know our table was ready.
Very unorganized and obviously the business operations of this establishment are greatly lacking. Once we were seating, the service was average and the food was below average. Our last time to this place.
When we arrived for our 7:30 pm Open Table reservation, we entered the waiting area to a packed mad house. As we made our way to the hostess stand, we could hear grumblings from other "diners" that Tower Oaks Lodge was not honoring reservations, and that the wait list was 45-90 minutes long. Indeed, once we weaved our way to the front of the crowd, one of the hostesses confirmed the refrain we heard. Even once seated in a booth in the bar, dinner was far from pleasant. It was loud, people in the aisles were staring at us like they wanted us to finish already. Then the food ... less that spectacular. The lamb shank was far from the "fall of the bone" one would have expected. Tower Oaks Lodge ... You Blew It.
We made a reservation for four on New Years' Eve --- which has become something of a family tradition. When we got there (on time, and at 7:30 relatively early for NYE), there was clearly a total breakdown of the reservation system. Dozens of people were trying to fight their way to the reception desk where they were told that the restaurant was full and that they were seating for 6:45 and that the wait would be at minimum an hour. Some senior citizen guests were in physical distress fighting through the crowd. We realized it was a disaster and just left. I called the manager the next day and he was apologetic, saying that the restaurant had counted on people leaving and instead they were "squatting." Really? At 7:30? We will try again because we generally like Clyde's at Tower Oaks (Tower Oaks Lodge) but not honoring reservations is kind of a basic thing, and the entire point of using Open Table.
The food and waiter service was great. However, we had a 7:15 reservation, and did not get a table until 8:30. When we arrived at 7:10, they we just seating the 6:30 reservations. Obviously, someone did not plan well for the New Year's Eve crowd.
I would like to see a better selection for dinner. I've been going to Tower Oaks for the last 10 years and I like simple fare, not food served with side dishes that I don't recognize. Some of their dishes are very unusual - the ravioli for instance but I don't like exotic looking dishes, just simple good tasting food.
Went to Tower Oaks on New Year's eve with a party of 4. We had a reservation for 6:45 and got there a bit early. The lobby was absolutely packed with people -- a bad sign. They said they were behind -- way behind -- and had not yet seated the people with 6:00 reservations. We waited in the packed lobby until 7:35 and were finally shown a table. From this point on, it was good. The service was attentive and not rushed -- and it was quiet and relaxed -- totally different from the frantic and crowded lobby. The food was good -- not really great but ok. I had the braised lamb shank which was delicious -- also the fried pickles were a great appetizer and only $2.50. At the end they took 20% off of the bill because of the long wait which was good and really necessary to leave us with a good feeling about the evening.
Waited 40 minutes past reservation to be seated. Our waitress maintained a friendly demeanor but appeared to have more tables than she could handle and could not maintain the prompt service we had seen previous years on New Year's eve. Management jumped in the breach to help her and gave us a complementary appetizer because of our wait to be seated. I had an entrée salad that was thrown together with little care, while other members of our group enjoyed their meals. The Lodge has always been a "goto" place for us, but the recent experience begs reconsideration.
1 hour wait with reservation. Would have been longer if we had not queried the host stand. Tower Oaks staff was overwhelmed and unprepared for the evening. Service did the best they could - Restaurant ran out of Pinot Noir at 6pm -
On New Year's eve, while the food and service were excellent, the restaurant management failed to schedule enough time between diners and we had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation time. The lobby was a chaotic mix of many people also waiting for tables. When we asked the staff - we were told that "people were not leaving" as the excuse for the wait. Not very good management and we were very disappointed and will not return to this restaurant for holiday dining.
It was early on New Year's Eve and they were very busy, but they had good staff and handled it quite well. When we got to our table, the service was good and it did not feel that busy. There was a cool breeze as if there was a door open somewhere. It was an enjoyable experience.new
Enjoyed our dinner and the food was supherb. The downside is the parking lot is always full. If you don't mind using valet parking then you'll be ok. We finished our meal, waited about 20 minutes to get our check, another 20 minutes for the waitress to pick it up and process the credit c ard.
Wonderful restaurant and ambiance!
It was a lovely evening. I left saddened only because it was my father's 89th birthday and though I had told the front desk, and they said they would take care of a cake for him, they never showed around dessert time. I didn't want to get up and ask again, and maybe i should have, but I just let it go. I would have let this go now but you sent an email asking for feedback.
Overall the waitress, food and evening was lovely.
I have always enjoyed my dining experiences at Tower Oaks. It is one of my favorite restaurants and I am glad it is relatively close to my home.
Great happy hour menu, $2.50 house wine. Great food, lovely location, great experience. Clyde's always delivers consistent service and value.
No wait when we reserved through open table during very busy holiday season. Great food!
Food is always great. Staff is always hospitable. It's my favorite place to dine when in town. I mostly come here for lunch. If you can arrive around 2pm, it's not too busy. Great place for kids and/or large parties. I like sitting at a booth and they have plenty of those. I also like the decor. There are 3 large dining rooms and each has a different vibe.
I went with my boyfriend and his parents this past Monday night and we had Eugene as our server. Being in the industry myself, I've found that my biggest concern with going out to eat is being nervous that our food isn't ordered or other things can go wrong during the experience. Thankfully, Eugene was fantastic. He was super nice and knew the menu well. He was very professional and charming, and he took excellent care of us. The ambience was insanely beautiful, and the foot was also very very good. The half-priced oysters were a lot of fun! Having Eugene as our server - along with the food, ambience, and hosts - made it an amazing experience, and we will definitely be returning. Thanks!!
When our kids come for the holidays or special event, we always plan a visit to Tower Oaks. And this dinner reminded me why. While the place was busy, we were seated promptly at our reservation time. Front desk staff were friendly, waitstaff was extraordinary. And the food! We have four very different meals, and all of our food was great. Although we could have made a delicious meal just from the bread and salted butter, we ate every bit of everything we were served. Some of us ordered favorites off the menu.....including salmon and kale salad. Tried the steak frites on our server's suggestion.....fantastic!
It wasn't just a great meal, it was a great experience. Can't wait for my next visit.
Dinner at Clyde's Tower Oaks always is a pleasure! The food is ample and delicious; the service is consistently good; value is excellent, and the atmosphere is lovely (especially during the holidays, when they "deck the halls" so festively).
This is a great restaurant that I have been to many times for lunch, dinner, and for special occasions. it always is a great experience.
Big fan of Clyde's Tower Oaks...big.
The service was good - Drinks were good - Atmosphere lively. Holiday singers were a nice surprise. Fine dining it is not. I ordered steak medium and it was raw. Blue meat raw. Creamy crab soup had no crab. I have to remember that this is really a bar.
The service was great from the host (Chris) to the waitress (Anita) The service was friendly, pleasant, timely, and excellent. The entrees exceeded expectations, especially the ravioli with mushroom bolognese sauce.
I eat here pretty regularly, but after this visit I am starting to ask myself why? The drinks are not really that good and the food is not particularly exceptional. So I will probably go once more and if I still feel the same way that will be my last time.
Food was excellent, Service was prompt and efficient, and we enjoyed the meal. However, we were slightly disappointed with the exterior Christmas Decorations. We seem to remember a more attractive presentation, but the white lights were nice as far as they went.
There is nothing to be done about the encroaching buildup in and around the restaurant. When it was located all by itself in the woods, it was a much more attractive area. I guess there is no stopping progress, is there?
Clyde's is reliably good food, with a rotating menu. Tower Oaks lodge is a great location for groups. The noise level is well managed and you are never rushed. The service on this visit was not as good as I have received in the past, but not a deterrent.
For me probably the best of the clydes restaurants. the restaurant itself is like an old lodge and I find the ambiance of it very charming. the food is also very good and affordable. 3 of us got out of there under $100... that included appetizers and a couple glasses of wine. my only complaint is that the bernaise in my steak frites was just awful. I ended up just eating my fries in the garlic mayo which was much better. other than that, a great experience.
The Great Room has impressive ambiance of the Black Hills ... I always feel like I've gotten far away for a short time ... & the service & food is outstanding!
I always appreciate it when I'm given my favorite booth.
Great ambiance. Wonderful service. Lovely cuisine. It doesn't get much better than this.
A friend and I went for brunch early on a Sunday. Attractively decorated and relaxed in atmosphere, Clyde's at Tower Oaks was a perfect respite from holiday madness.
Pros: $4 mimosas! Little squares of coffee cake as soon as you're seated. Prompt and attentive service. This is huge with me as it no longer seems to be the norm it once was ( in restaurants in general). Our server cheerfully complied with my request to substitute a hard-boiled egg for the usual poached in Eggs Benedict. The dish was, on balance, okay...but I must rave about the fried potatoes on the side--delicious!
Cons (minor): for my taste, the smoked salmon in the Eggs Benedict was a liitle too salty and the English muffin a little flabby.
We always enjoy this restaurant because of its handsome rooms, good food and service.
The only complaint I would make this time is that we were placed right next to the kitchen and the waiters and bus boys were constantly going by our table. As there were empty tables and booths on our way to this table, we should have voiced a preference. However, once seated we realized our mistake when the constant stream of servers, etc., began. On a good note, the hostess as well as the waitress wished us a Happy Anniversary and we received complimentary desserts which was a nice touch so all was not lost. The waitress was quick, pleasant and attentive. We just think that for a special occasion it would have been nice to have been placed near a fireplace or a more pleasant location.
The service was very good and the food was also quite good. The trout parmesan and crab cakes are always delicious here. My only complaint is the position of the spotlights. I have had to request to have them dimmed almost every time I come . They are a little too bright and, depending on where you are sitting, ending up shining right into your eyes. Other than than, the atmosphere is fun and vibrant.
