Tower Oaks Lodge
Brought my mom here for her birthday. They were great about taking note of that from my OpenTable reservation and brought over a free dessert for her. However, our waiter forgot the forks which meant we spent about 5 minutes watching the ice cream melt on her cake. The food was cooked well but I wouldn't recommend it to any foodies I know. Presentation on the plating could be better to instead of the sauce going everywhere before I even start eating. Noticed lots of families and the bar scene seemed to be great in the evening. Probably would come back for the bar menu and some drinks but not really loving the dinner menu.
The ambiance was wonderful and the food delicious. And,
the server was fast, efficient and polite. Will definitely be back!
Have come to expect a quality experience - ambiance and food - and were not disappointed. In particular, the cream of crab soup, boudin ball appetizer, haddock, salmon and trout dinners were good. We had several questions of our server and she was great in following up with the chef and providing the answers. We had requested the Great Room on our online reservation and were pleased to be seated there. Credit to the staff for clearing the parking lot of snow.
Food is always good. Our server mistakenly thought we wanted one entree for some reason, when we ordered two. The second one was served late. The manager very graciously did not charge us for either entree, even though we didn't complain--very surprising. Quality management and food.
We love this place for a quick mid-week meal. I had the mushroom risotto, which was excellent. And my friend had the crab cake sandwich, which was also excellent.
This was my first time at any of Clyde's locations. My group included 2 adults and 1 teenager. We had the crab soup, chili, buffalo wings, fried pickles, artichoke crab dip, steak frites, trout parm, pork chop, and butterscotch creme brulee. Everything was delicious. The service was very good as well. I will definitely go back. The total bill before tip was $102.
My wife and I celebrated our 10 year Anniversaire at Tower Oaks. We had an online reservation and indicated the special occasion in the footnotes. We were treated very incredibly by the staff, maybe, on that account, but I believe that they are so professional there, that everyone comes away feeling that way, whether it's a special day, or any other. We were seated at a corner location, next to the big fireplace and near the moosehead. It was early in the evening and had just turned dark outside, and so it wasn't entirely full there, so the quiet lent to a very nice atmosphere. The table spacing is such that each one is like it's own little oasis. We next met Michael, the waiter, a rather upbeat fellow, who took care of all of our needs with polish and enthusiasm. He knew the menu, thoroughly, and made excellent suggestions which we took him up on. A seafood medley soup appetizer and chicken fetaccini (sp?) were especially great. The beef stew was good too. A highlight came for desert, but I'm a chocolate fiend, so we loved the cake. All in all, quite a memorable evening in a first class establishment. This may sound like a sugared-up, coerced write-up, but I assure you it's not. Overall Tower Oaks is just plain cool. I am trying to think of friends we can take there for their first time on our next visit. We intend to be back soon, I promise. Cheers, 10years&Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife and I went to Clyde's for our 20th anniversary last Valentine's Day. The exterior was very welcoming and we thought the Christmas lighting was a nice touch, helping the restaurant stand out among the industrial buildings in the area. Being from the Adirondacks, the interior brought back warm memories of home with the classic lodge feel and warm wood paneling. The complimentary valet was appreciated, especially since we got there in the middle of a snowstorm. Even though we were packed in the dining room, it was comfortable. The drinks were excellent - I had a very tasty small batch bourbon and my wife had a cocktail. The bartenders know what they are doing. The food was outstanding. Although it would have been nice to choose from a bone-in ribeye or filet, the NY strip was perfectly cooked to order and it was among the best I have ever had. The same goes for the crab cakes. The wine pairings recommended with the meals were perfect. The desserts capped off our special night - my wife thoroughly enjoyed the pistachio baklava and I the bread pudding. Our server was attentive, but not overly so, and the timing on everything was perfect. This was a great value since the bill was reasonable but the quality of the food was comparable to other higher priced chophouses in the area. We have since been back and tried the bar fare. The bar was very busy and lively. The food hit the spot but it was just good as bar fare goes. We would definitely recommend Clyde's for a nice dinner or special occasion. The food, wine, and dining room service was exceptional and the bill did not give me heartburn.
We went out on a cold Friday night. The parking lot was jammed packed! We lucked out and found a space just when I was ready to say forget it and go somewhere else. We were seated at a table in one of the rooms with a big bar. It was really loud. Service was a bit slow and felt unorganized because the people bringing your food are not the waiter who took your order. The cold drafts coming in the big windows were amazing. We thought the windows must not have been shut but they were. A huge waste of energy. We has to scoot as far away from the windows as we could to stay warm. The food was ok- some dishes were really good, others were mediocre. I noticed the quieter dining room as we walked out. If I ever go again, I'll ask to be seated there where you don't have to shout across the table.
Good food but nothing to write home about. The restaurant is overpriced.
I asked for oysters fried and they fixed them - delicious. The Caesar salad was dynamite.
A bit too noisy but its a popular place and noise comes with it.
My son's omelet came as described on menu---not as ordered. It took 25 minutes for the correct order to come out after everyone else was finished at the table (his girlfriend and I). No mention of it being taken off the bill. Paid it, but may not come back.
I came there 2 years ago and the food was great,I had a ribeye steak dinner which was excellent, the ribeye steak is no longer on the menu very disappointed
Awesome experience!!!! Bar-Tender A++++++ made great drinks and what a personality!!!! I felt bad leaving when our table was ready! Knowledgeable and really really a great experience!!!!
I am always satistied after dining at the Lodge. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable.
We normally go to Tower Oaks Lodge for Valentines Day and our anniversary. The food is always excellent, and the wine selection fine.
Had great time on Valentine's Day. Good quet romantic atmosphere good menu selection and wine list. Definitely rocommend. Will come back soon
We are never disappointed with our dining experience at Tower Oaks.
We have been there twice and both times our reservation was given away and we arrived early both times, we were told to go to the bar they would text, after our reservation time had passed we went up front and were told that they called our name (no text) someone came up so they gave our table away, if this was the first time I would let it pass but both times we went there, so this tells me it must happen all the time, the servers and food are great but when I make a reservation to take my wife to dinner, I should not have to wait an hour to be seated, and a free desert does not change the fact that we had to wait an hour (after our reservation time) both times we had a reservation, we will not be returning.
My husband and I visited Clyde's for dinner on Valentine's day. This is a beautiful restaurant in Rockville, MD tucked away in a lodge off the beaten path. When we arrived the staff seated us immediately, and accommodated my request to be seated near the fireplace...very romantic. For starters we ordered the scallops, a trio of oysters, a cosmo and mojito. Oysters/scallops were very tasty and drinks were great too! I ordered the parmesan crusted trout and my husband ordered the roasted bone-in pork chop for our entrees. Both dishes were cooked to perfection....very good! We ended the evening with dessert the salted caramel bread pudding to take home to eat in bed together. I highly recommend Clyde's at Tower Oaks. We can't wait to visit again. Perhaps we'll go for happy hour on the weekend.
I found the menu to be too innovative and exotic for my palate. I frequent Clyde's Chevy in Chase and their menu is more mainstream. Why can't I find [on a lunch menu] a more simple salad with grilled chicken, steak or fish? Perhaps Mahi-Mahi or Halibut? Serving farmed Atlantic salad is not as desirable as wild salmon. If folks want dried berries or cheeses in their salads, make some add-ins optional.
In the end, I ordered a small plate of lobster spring rolls, which at $12.95 for two 4" logs was far too $$$ for this food. It was tasty but not nearly enough to eat. Dining on Valentine's Day, I had hoped they would serve some simple elegant menu items.
My date's lunch was a chicken sandwich but the 1/2 breast of chicken was hard to bite into and chew as it was not sliced into thinner servings. We appreciated their desire to serve and show us they use "whole" chicken but trying to bite into and chew this chunk was difficult.
My stick with Chevy Chase for my Clyde's experiences.
Tower Oaks has great ambiance combined with a relaxed setting. Food is great, we recommend anything from the oyster bar. Decent range of wine and beer, including local options. This is our "go to" spot for special occasions.
We were surprised that our server was apparently unprepared to handle requests about Gluten Free items on the menu. The caliber of the Clyde's restaurants is strong, but gluten free menu/requests is something that has become mainstream in the food industry.
Service was great, very nice to my family and grandma on her 90th birthday!!
Salmon dish was great, Trout dish was very good, my steak was done just right..but, portions have gotten smaller from last year...hmmm Also, I substituted a strange vegetable choice for cole slaw, which came in a bowl and looked like a milky soup. I turned bowl on it's side and gobs of stuff poured out onto plate.. couldn't eat it. Cole slaw should be fresh and lightly wet with dressing .
Will try again.
I have been several times and food is consistent. My friend was not happy with the way her hanger steak was cooked, she asked that they cook it more well it came back the same way. Manager came over and apologized but we didn't have time for a third try, he did take it off the check.
I have always enjoyed the crab cakes but this time they were not good - they seemed old. Deserts were excellent. There was a private party of about 15 students in our room so it was noisy. Service was good.
My parents visit regularly from out of town - this is the only restaurant in a land of many that they want to go to when in town...
always great service and amazing food
Consistent, reliable food, though somewhat mechanical service. Convenient location that offers a pleasant escape from everyday dining experiences. Reasonable prices.
This time for a family get-together for a special occasion. I arrived a bit early and had a drink at the bar, which was packed but bartenders were on the ball. When the gang arrived we were immediately seated (right on time for our reservation made via OpenTable) and received a comfy booth in the "canoe room." Food was all perfect. Waitress paid us little attention, but drinks and food came fast and pace was perfect for our needs.
Clyde's is the place to go when you want to meet friends and have a nice, relaxing meal in a beautiful setting. It isn't too loud and the tables, especially in the great hall room, are arranged so as you feel very private. The food is fine, not outstanding. Service was excellent and not intrusive at all. Definitely our go to place to meet friends for a fun, relaxing meal.
We had a very nice time celebrating a birthday dinner. The staff recognized we wanted to take our time and did not come over and bother us every 5 minutes like some restaurant staff will do. We spent nearly four hours having a leisurely dinner, drinks and desert and enjoyed every minute of it. We will be back.
My husband and I went to this Clyde's late night after a show at Strathmore (around 10:30). We were seated immediately. The server was nice but disappeared after the entrees arrived - which was 45 minutes after we were seated (I don't know why the place was practically empty)! The read was COLD (not even room temperature), the appetizers were good. I had the crabcake which was undercooked in some spots. My husband had the strip steak which he loved but the AU gratun potatoes were CRUNCHY! Also our seat was close to the bar area which was extremely loud. I'll never go back to this location again.
Love Clyde's, I think they have great options, none of which you can go wrong with. This location in particular has the most fun vibe and decor and it's nice that it's set back and away from other shops and restaurants nearby in Rockville. We made a reservation for 7:00pm, arrived closer to 6:40 and we were seated by 6:50 or so. We got a nice booth for the two of us which was really nice. Our waitress was not overly friendly, but she was attentive and fast. Food arrived very quickly and everything was prepared to our liking.
Incredible oysters, great food, superior service. Second trip, can't wait for the next visit.
I went with my eight year daughter to celebrate my birthday. Service went above and beyond what I expected. The kids meal (fish and chips) was adult size and well prepared. Food was served promptly. My daughter requested a brownie sundae with a candle and not only She got her wish but they made it complimentary. We used the complimentary valet parking and that was quick and efficient. Overall a great experience
Overall, good dining experience. The ambiance was fine - not too noisy. The view is nice. And the interior is amazing - you feel like you are in a lodge in the Adirondacks. Very cool!
We arrived an hour early for our 6:45 reservation( our movie was short so we got there early) they could not honor our resv but sat us in the bar. Service was slow, they said computers were down. One salad never arrived. Had to ask other server to find our server so we could order more drinks. Food was good. They comped our drinks due to poor service, we didn't complain or even ask! Place was packed when we left at 7pm. It's been awhile since we've dined here. I really wanted it to be good. It was just okay for us.
Love this place. Food, service, atmosphere excellent. Pot roast special was delicious. Have only been here for lunch but look forward to dinner and brunch in the future.
Everything was very affirmative, i.e., reasonable (cost) valet parking, quality of the food, professionalism of the server
Eating here is like entering one of the old, huge hunting lodges. The food is good and we had a wonderful server, but the best part is the large room with big windows and all that paraphernalia hanging in the ceilings, standing in the corners.
