Muku (“無垢”), meaning “purity” or “innocence,” is a Japanese restaurant in New York City led by award-winning Chef Manabu Asanuma, whose experience spans acclaimed kitchens in New York, Japan, and Taiwan. Rooted in seasonality, simplicity, and intention, Muku draws inspiration from kaiseki while celebrating "goho" - the five classical techniques of Japanese cooking: raw, grilled, simmered, steamed, and fried. Each dish is crafted with restraint, using only what enhances the true character of the ingredients, resulting in a focused, expressive cuisine that honors tradition while offering a refined, modern Japanese dining experience.Guests are welcome to bring bottles not featured on our beverage list to enjoy with our menu. Corkage is $175 per 720ml sake bottle or 750ml wine bottle, with a limit of two bottle per reservation. Please email us at info@restaurantmuku.nyc to confirm whether we carry a label.

Tsukimi's tasting course immerses you in a modern take on kaiseki by Chef Takanori Akiyama and his team. Our 12-seat counter dining room offers a communal dining experience alongside a thoughtfully curated beverage program. For any food restrictions, please reach out to us first at info@tsukimi.nyc before making a reservation. Please note that we cannot accommodate vegan, vegetarian, seafood-free diets, and gluten-free diets. We may include raw ingredients, such as caviar and sea urchin, in our courses which cannot be modified. With advance notice, we can accommodate pescatarian diets and adjust the menu on a case by case basis for single ingredient restrictions.

Late arrivals to the reserved seating may result in missed dishes as courses are served at the same time for all guests. The experience lasts about 2.5-3 hours. Reservations are prepaid and all sales are final and non-refundable. We may honor rescheduling with at least 72 hours notice to the time of the reservation.

You won’t want to miss the two-level Soho outpost of this popular Upper West Side and Chelsea Japanese restaurant — with a 12-seat sushi bar, cocktails on the ground floor, and a plush dining room overlooking St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral upstairs. The fish and shellfish selection is unusually large, the kaiseki menu is imaginative, and the kitchen turns out everything from miso black cod to crispy duck.
