First time at this restaurant. We were celebrating our daughter’s birthday. Rare did not disappoint. Amazing wine list and outstanding food! And the service was absolutely top-notch! Yes, it’s pricey, but you know that going into it, and we believe it’s absolutely worth it. Cannot wait to go back.

Exceptional service and food! Not a bad thing to say. Our server made incredible recommendations with our wine and dessert. The steaks were amazing, as was the bone marrow we started with. It’s really saying something when the mushroom and truffle risotto was the least touched dish on the table (incredible, but so was everything else!)

Probably the best steak I ever had the side dishes were exceptional. Also, the rice risotto was phenomenal and the asparagus was fantastic.

The Boathouse is a casual waterfront dining spot along the shores of Lake Mendota that serves up hot fare and cold craft beers every day from 11am-10pm. The long-standing tradition of waterfront dining in Wisconsin is not lost here, in fact, it is very much at the forefront of this restaurant. Our chef takes casual classics like burgers and cheese curds and puts his modern spin on them to make lakeside life even better, all while being right in the heart of downtown Madison.
