When we heard the space was available and the landlord was interested in having us as tenants, it was decided somewhere between the end of bottle one and the middle of bottle two that it would be a French Diner, and as soon as we put 'French' and Diner' together, the menu basically wrote itself. There is a strong connective line between bistro classics and diner standards: comfort food, so it was easy to see how happily beef bourguignon would share menu space with meatloaf and mashed potatoes, or how natural it seemed to have a choice between steak frites and chicken fried steak. It all comes together in a beautifully lit room that calls back to an old school diner from a bistro’s landline, all pushed through a smudgy, deco lens. Our main goal is simple, we just want you to have a nice time.Please note that, due to the small size of the restaurant, prime time reservations will have a rebooking! If you'd like to take your time dining, we would recommend booking at 9pm or later.

Bar Vendetta distinguishes itself in a space that had previously been a fairly iconic restaurant, The Black Hoof, with a beautiful (and imposing) Douglas fir ‘glass canopy’ and a completely different, 70s colour scheme, modelled (very loosely) on Jen's teen basement bedroom in Scarborough. Nothing says 70s like brown, orange and cream! We didn’t want it to scream ‘Italian restaurant’ because frankly it’s only Italian-ish, using the philosophies of Italian cooking with locally available ingredients and a strong devotion to seasonality. Our pastas all made in house, by long-time chef, Annalisa Latavo and our front of house team is simply a dream! The sort of secret treehouse-feeling back patio is hugely popular in the summer, but we think of it as the perfect restaurant for a colder evening, cozy for tucking into a beautiful plate of pasta, with one of your favourite songs playing while you have a very nice Italian red.

    I first went to Sotto Voce two weeks ago and had such a good time that I had to come back at the soonest opportunity, and bring a different friend so that as many people as possible get to experience what I did! I got the Campagne pasta both times and will be back for a third serving haha. Maddy, Tatianna & crew are so spectacular, it makes the experience that much more wonderful. Tatianna is soooo delightful and Maddy- truly girl, you are such a rockstar! Extra hat tip to the kitchen team, who pumped our delicious food out within what felt like a split second of us ordering. I truly will never shut up about Sotto Voce like, ever. We will be back a million times for more bevvies and delicious delicious food. Thank you so much!
