Open Mon/Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun, closed Tues/Wed. Muoi Tieu is a cozy family-run Vietnamese restaurant and market in the heart of Takoma Park, Maryland, with a small but carefully curated menu that offers a combination of popular Vietnamese dishes (e.g., pho, spring rolls) and less common home-style dishes (e.g., braised pork belly, pan-fried fish with ginger nuoc cham) with plenty of gluten-free and vegan options. Our small market also offers a variety of common Vietnamese condiments, pantry items, and Asian snacks. Like our name, which means "salt and pepper" in Vietnamese, our concept is simple: we want to bring classic, savory Vietnamese food to our community.

Lovely dinner - the emphasis on local products and the cooking over embers gives the food a distinct flavor profile which is most pleasant. The porchetta special was really well prepared, presented and delicious. We had various seafood options as well, and the snapper and lump crab were super fresh and flavorful. The outdoor patio is quite protected from the elements so should be comfortable in all weather conditions. Frankly the background music level was better on the patio than inside. Music selection was great. Finally, a nicely curated wine list with wines for every budget including a few splurge options. All together a wonderful experience.

This was my second time to visit The Simon and I was joined by friends also on a repeat visit. In fact, they were the friends who recommended I try it in the first place. The primary reason I went back was because the service on my first visit was so outstanding, and this time was no different. During the previous visit, I and my friends sat at a table, but this time we spent a good portion of our time at the bar, and Sabrina was the stand-out. What a delight. She was attentive, and fun, and treated us as if we were old friends. In fact, on this visit, it seemed everybody around the bar was part of a friend group. The bar staff created an atmosphere that lent itself to cross-chatting, and we were all laughing together. When it came time to go to our table, i was a little regretful to leave the "fun group." The drinks, by the way, were spot on. Even after going to our table, Sabrina did not "abandon" us and sent over come complimentary drinks and snacks and waved at us periodically to check in. This is the kind of thing that, as I've said before, cements a relationship. Corny as it may seem, it's awfully nice to walk into a place and know that you will be treated as a friend and not as a burden or an object.
