The Rosa shows that sometimes taking something old and making it new again can come out quite well. The founder opened the family-style Italian gem in 1927 using the family home to do it. For 55 years Ralph Rosa fought all odds, including the Great Depression and Prohibition, and continued to provide Portsmouth great Italian classics. For the past 30+ years, The Rosa has continued under new ownership that remodeled and updated, but kept plenty of familiar dishes. Notable menu items include the house-made herb gnocchi with slow braised espresso pork shoulder and lasagna Bolognese. The vanilla cheesecake with an Oreo crust and strawberry compote makes the perfect ending to a memorable dinner or lunch at The Rosa.

    Everything about this place was OUTSTANDING!!! The dining room was very comfortable and the service was exceptional but the food was even better!!! The roast leg of lamb was done perfectly and the stuffed haddock was one of the best meals I've ever eaten!!! Will see you there again soon!!! Thank you!!!

    We had a lovely, lovely time at The Rosa for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere was so pleasant and we were very appreciative to have been seated in a comfortable booth. The staff greeting us entering and leaving the restaurant were ever so friendly. And we can’t say enough about our server, Kayla. What an absolute gem! She was so thoughtful of us the entire evening with a happy smile at each table side engagement. The food was delicious along with the specialty drinks. We look forward to our next visit.

    This restaurant rivals any pizza we have enjoyed in Sorrento Italy. My husband enjoyed the sausage broccoli rabe served with cassarecci pasta, it is his favorite! Finally a restaurant that does not disappoint, right down to the cappuccino served hot and delicious. Staff was wonderful, Lena nailed it! The new manager. Aiden stopped by our table, showing that he cares about his diner’s satisfaction. Good luck, We will be back! Anna Maria
