Bar Vendetta distinguishes itself in a space that had previously been a fairly iconic restaurant, The Black Hoof, with a beautiful (and imposing) Douglas fir ‘glass canopy’ and a completely different, 70s colour scheme, modelled (very loosely) on Jen's teen basement bedroom in Scarborough. Nothing says 70s like brown, orange and cream! We didn’t want it to scream ‘Italian restaurant’ because frankly it’s only Italian-ish, using the philosophies of Italian cooking with locally available ingredients and a strong devotion to seasonality. Our pastas all made in house, by long-time chef, Annalisa Latavo and our front of house team is simply a dream! The sort of secret treehouse-feeling back patio is hugely popular in the summer, but we think of it as the perfect restaurant for a colder evening, cozy for tucking into a beautiful plate of pasta, with one of your favourite songs playing while you have a very nice Italian red.

    We were there for a pre-concert dinner. This is our fave “local” in Yorkville. Good, reliable, upscale pub menu in a great old English style establishment. Wait staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The red snapper was outstanding as was the brine marinated pork chop. Both were done to perfection and accompanied by equally well prepared veggies. Wine list by the glass is good as well. Look forward to coming back soon!

    What an amazing restaurant. We went with another couple and had such a great time. The ambiance is so special - so may amazing details. The food was beyond delicious. It was so fresh and classic, great value. The sever and all staff were kind and engaging. Overall a special night and we look forward to returning!

    This was our second visit, and once again, we were blown away. Beautiful ambiance, quiet without being sad. Service that is above and beyond - classy yet friendly, and approachable. Some restaurants at this tier are stuffy, and the staff seem to look down on people. Not at Hy’s. Welcoming hostesses, smiling and friendly servers, all creating a very welcoming environment. Lorne was our server, and was fantastic. His recommendations ensured we left feeling full, but not overwhelmed. The food was perfection. We both had the special of two filet medallions topped with scallops, broccolini and arancini stuffed with crab as sides, as well as sautéed mushrooms that were absolutely delicious. We shared a piece of cheesecake - also amazing, and the chef kindly wrote “Happy Birthday” on the plate for my husband. Expensive? Yes. Worth every penny for a special occasion? 100% yes!!! Thank you Hy’s for a wonderful evening!
