My father and I had a wonderful time celebrating our birthdays at this restaurant. The food was excellent, and the team went out of their way to tailor the menu to our dietary needs. The attention was incredibly personal, warm, and thoughtful, and the service was truly among the best I have ever experienced. A fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommended!

“Tankuma” was born on the banks of the Takase River in Kyoto, famous for “Takase Fune” at the beginning of Showa period. Takasegawa-suji is a place where Ikushu restaurants serving seasonal river fish were lined up in the Edo period, but our “Tankuma” has been working hard since then. After the war, we continued to make steady progress with the support of Ryosensen, Junichiro Tanizaki, Isao Yoshii, and other literary artists. The name “Yugyoan” was named after the long-cherished “Rishinyusho”, which has been the best delicacy in China.

Our chef Yuki was incredible. She explained every dish she was making and prepared them expertly. She was a delight and a wonderful addition to an amazing meal. The views of Kobe harbor from the restaurant are fantastic especially after sunset when the lights of the city come on. The food and service were both top notch. A fantastic experience I can’t wait to have again!
