I made a last minute reservation to sit at the bar and really treat myself to an experience. First time dining alone and Boka exceeded any expectations I may or may not have had. I knew going into it that I wanted to do the tasting menu and the mocktail/non-alcoholic drink pairing. I will be thinking about the tarragon, chamomile and citrus mocktail for a long time. Refreshing, herbaceous and perfect in every way! I wish I could say I had a favorite course, but I can't! Not only pleasing to the eye, but every sauce, foam, preparation, variety of what was served... sublime! From the (and I'm simplifying this) creamy fois gras with rhubarb jam on brioche. To the deliciously cheesy, melt in your mouth sweetbread ravioli with a touch of caraway seed. The roasted miatake mushrooms with perfectly toasted sunflower seeds and the smokey-sweet and sour mushroom and black tea mocktail just danced on my pallet. The riff, or at least that was the food memory that triggered in me, the riff on PB&J with the childlike "cereal milk" over tiny ice. DEAD! Strawberry everything, with peanutty crunchy bits and what I can best describe as a "marshmallow fluff" and white sesame ice cream - so fun and playful. Did I mention the bluefin tuna? Stunning, punch of acid right in the mouth. The summer tomatoes, English peas, asparagus, strawberries... the most amazing produce in every dish! I was literally dancing in my seat with every bite! The service and presentation was outstanding! Again nervous to sit at the bar alone, but everyone was engaging and friendly. I was encouraged to take my pictures and text my friends in real time. YES! I was one of those who was taking a pic with every course... I simply couldn't help myself! My only critiques... it was difficult to eat some of the courses from how they were plated and one less pinch of salt on some of the dishes. I can't thank Boka enough for just doing what you do best! It was a perfect night!
