With “Papa” and Sam in the kitchen and Angelika, Chris & Yianni running the front of the house, Papas Grille turned into one of the finest and well-respected restaurants in the Durham food scene. After eighteen successful years as Papas Grille, it was time for a makeover and with that came a new brand as well. The reconstruction took place in 2012 in which the changes brought a more casual setting and modern feel. With “Papa” retiring during the changeover, Sam took over the realms in the kitchen fine-tuning his craft which is highly focused on quality ingredients and consistent execution. The front of the house continues to be overseen by Angelika and Yianni.

A lot has changed in both our town and the craft beer industry since we opened our doors as the culmination of a business school plan I wrote my senior year at UNC. Today, we celebrate our North Carolina roots with a made-from-scratch menu focused on Carolina foods in a newly renovated building.     Every bite of food was delicious from tender lamb meatballs to warm dalmades set in tsaziki to succulent octopus and surprisingly delicate and lemony beets. The orangey chocolate tort served with a scoop of gelato with a hint of basil was delightful. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. I would absolutely return.

    Wonderful new menu, including ceviche and green salad with chicken. Lunch on the patio was pleasant. Great hospitality by both co-owners Brett and Payge. Friendly, helpful, and efficient server Arden. A very special neighborhood restaurant.
