With a passion for family and food the Lujan sisters came together to open Agave Azul Kitchen & Tequila Bar in 2012. Their goal was to bring together a gathering of authentic Mexican home cooking that stuck to their roots. Their family originated from Zacatecas, Mexico and then came to Hughson, California to begin farming. With this heritage came recipes passed down from generation to generation. Food was the center of their life and growing up on a local farm allowed their family to cook at home with food grown on their land. Sandra and Gabby originally had the thought of opening Taqueria El Agave, but it quickly transformed into a full kitchen serving some of their favorite dishes such as pollo con crema y rajas. The unique thing about Agave Azul is their attention and focus to the quality of each of the ingredients that goes into their recipes and their commitment to never sacrificing on quality home grown ingredients.

    This place exceeded my expectations. The parking lot was full on a Monday night at 6pm which is always a good sign. There’s plenty of space inside for big parties. The service was top notch. Super friendly. The food was incredible. I got the ribeye and my wife got the ahi tuna salad. The drinks were great. My wife and I were very pleased. I usually don’t leave raving reviews but we will be coming back.

    My son took me here for Mother's Day lunch on Saturday, 5/9. They weren't super crowded, but we did have reservations. The service was excellent and the food was quite good. We started with the Meat/Cheese Tray which was delightful! Meats, cheeses, nuts, olives, crostini and dried fruits. Really big and lots of delicious variety. Next, we split a Caesar Salad which was just right for both of us. Had we not split it, it would have been meal size. Fabulous parmigiano-reggioano! I had the Pollo Marsala which was very good. The accompanying vegetables were wonderful. My son had the Calarami Livornese which looked fabulous and really flavorful. I might try that next time! I had eaten here once before for dinner with friends and had their special which was scallops and they were incredibly good! I would recommend Verona's for a special occasion or date night.

    I was so impressed with the service. The guy who helped us was so accommodating. He moved our party outside after reading the notes in the reservation request and made sure we had shade and AC due to the heat. He also was very helpful in giving menu suggestions and making sure our dietary needs were met while being so friendly and polite. Even my co-worker Golnoush mentioned how nice he was. We were taking a client to lunch and we will be back.
