Located in Portland's Old Port District, Fore Street opened in June, 1996. The interior surrounds a unique brick and soapstone hearth with a wood-burning oven, grill and turnspit; visible from most tables. We believe that good food travels the shortest possible distance between the farm and the table. Our menu changes every day and is founded upon the very best raw materials from a community of Maine farmers, fisherman, foragers and cheese makers. Most of the Maine foods are organically grown or harvested wild, each brought to us at the peak of its season. In 2002 and again in 2007, Fore Street was named by Gourmet Magazine as one of the Top Fifty Restaurants in the United States. In 2004, Chef-Partner Sam Hayward was named Best Chef: Northeast by the James Beard Foundation.

Street and Co. is a Mediterranean, bistro style, all-seafood restaurant with a dynamic atmosphere and 35 years of experience, located right in the heart of the Old Port. Our chefs focus on serving the freshest seafood and the best ingredients available from local purveyors, fishermen and organic farmers. They prepare a simple yet creative menu that highlights the ingredients. Our personalized wine list truly complements the cuisine and we offer a classic full bar. We serve our full menu at the bar itself and feature a raw bar with a variety of local oysters. The bar is available to book the majority of the year but only available thru walk in for July/August. Our comfortable lounge is great place to get together for drinks and appetizers or to enjoy while waiting for a table. Al fresco dining is available thru walk-in only from Memorial Day through September, depending on weather. We book the majority of the dining room but reserve a few tables for walk in as well.

    The rhubarb crème brûlée was almost as delicious as I remembered it from last year—isn’t your first time always more memorable made even more so over time? The hangar steak was perfectly cooked with its fiddlehead ferns. The asparagus salad was awesome. Grilled calamari was very good as was the mixed green salad and veal breast three way was very rich but interesting. See you next year. (The morning bun and blueberry scone in The Standard Bakery the next morning were incredible.)

    Wow! The food was absolutely delicious! Best tiramisu I ever had!!! Loved that it had gluten free options for my daughter! The service was exceptional! Zoe was kind knowledgeable and super attentive! Can’t wait to come back to Maine and eat here again!

    We had most wonderful dinner celebrating my daughters college graduation. Scales acknowledged the occasion with a card and with a special congratulations cookie when we ordered dessert. The seafood stew is outstanding, flavorful and fresh, filled with a variety of seafood. The grilled sourdough is perfect for sopping up the delicious broth. The steak was perfectly cooked & the scallops were seared to perfection. Scales always has delicious food and a great atmosphere. We look forward to coming back when we are back in Maine.

    This is one of the rare restaurants in which every detail seems to have been considered and addressed. The setting - even the location on Wharf Street - is absolutely perfect. The space is a magnificent restoration of a nineteenth century Old Port building. The service is impeccable: friendly, welcoming, professional and prompt. Our server was attentive but not obtrusive. And then there's the food! My wife and I both ordered our favorite, sole francaise, but the truth is that we have tried other items on the menu over the years, and our meals were all outstanding. If you love fresh, perfectly prepared seafood, you could throw a dart at the menu, order whatever item you hit, and the meal that will be presented will be fantastic.
