Bistro Aracosia has a varied menu of tasty dishes and I've been there many times. But this time didn't work out quite so well because of two items I tried and which I recommend others avoid: -- Afghania Dhood Palou, based on a lamb shank. It was supposed to be "smoked" but didn't seem that way to me and was on the dry side and without much taste, to the point where I asked for a salt shaker. -- Irish Coffee: the restaurant serves it without whipped cream. (They can offer you half and half.) Even though the restaurant is Afghani, Irish Coffee is not Irish Coffee without whipped cream, in my view. On the other hand, the several appetizers our table ordered were all excellent and well seasoned: Mantu (spicey beef dumplings); Aushak (leek and scallion dumplings), and baadenjaan bouranee (a very perky egg plant mixture).

Tables are close together so you hear everyone's conversation. The waiter said the dumplings were the best thing on the menu (as an upsell to the mini taste menu), and the dumplings came and were mushy and not very good. The people at the table next to us ordered dumplings also, thinking they were good, only to be disappointed when they arrived at the table, with the same feedback. "These are mushy and not very good." The waiter took my drink order, charged us on the bill for it, and then never made the drink. So, I got my drink after dessert, and he made the drink, then told me an ingredient was left out accidentally. But by that time, I was ready to leave. Everything on the taste menu was mushy except for 2 small pieces of lamb. We asked for extra rice, without telling us anything, they charged us $10 for more rice. I'm not sure if it's new management, new chef or what, but seems like multiple tables were disappointed in the service. The flavors were not unique and not delicious. Nothing I would recommend at this restaurant.

We arrived early and stayed late and it still wasn't enough time for the incredible food and atmosphere. SO tasty! Our server helped me navigate my garlic allergy with great ease and knowledge. Just wonderful.

i was looking forward to returning to this neighborhood restaurant but the experience was disappointing. 1. we stood at the front for 5 minutes before a hostess even noticed.us 2. we waited for far too long to have our order taken and then a. there was no bread service til we were finished with the main meal despite requests b. our wine order wasn't provided til after the main course was served despite requests and c. the main course with a large upcharge for the veal version had two small pieces of stringy veal [ possibly 2 oz] in a sauce that must have been warming for hours. to his credit the waiter apologized for the long waits and gave us a small takeaway container of a 'free' dessert. very disappointing indeed
