Eat the Rich is an oyster bar by James Beard award nominee Derek Brown and award-winning oysterman Travis Croxton of Rappahannock River Oysters. Featuring local oysters and a menu inspired by the Chesapeake Bay, Eat the Rich is a tribute to mid-Atlantic cuisine and the great oyster houses of Washington, D.C. The kitchen offers seafood dishes ranging from smoked trout hash to skate wing. The bar, manned by bar manager Paul Taylor, serves oyster shooters, classic drinks, and signature pitcher cocktails.

This isn't your typical oyster bar. At Eat the Rich, you can eat, drink and listen to rock music. It's named after a Mötorhead song, after all.

Belle découverte. Une cuisine simple et efficace. Des huîtres évidemment et surtout des cocktails à la hauteur des plus exigeants.

The wait staff was phenomenal. Great service! The oysters were delicious and a good value. The crab cake was breads and dry, however. Sub-par. But the side dishes were well done. Not an A+ experience, but still good.

This was a convenient (to Shaw-Howard metro stop) place to grab a bite on the way to a concert nearby. But wow, was it ever loud inside! The dining area is communal picnic-style wooden tables, so you definitely overhear the conversations from parties next to you. (Also, parties of two are directed to sit side-by-side -- which irked me at first until I realized I'd have never been able to carry on a conversation across the table.) Oysters and drinks were tasty, although I wish I'd come at the late-afternoon or late-night happy hours as that seems like a far better price for the raw bar items. If I try it again, it would be during happy hour, hopefully before or after the peak crowds and noise.

We were looking for a nice seafood restaurant, but this is more a bar with a few tables. Good for what it was, but it isn't a special-occasion destination, more of a nice place to stop in for a drink and a dozen oysters. We had a pretty good meal made up of appetizers, but I wouldn't suggest this as a place to go for a romantic dinner.

This is a great little neighborhood place. We went early on a Friday night and it was quiet, but I imagine it starts hopping later on. There are two lively bars in the store front and a room in the back with communal tables. The oysters are the stand-out--very fresh with delicious sauces for dipping. And they are a real bargain during happy hour at $12/dozen! It's a small menu but covers the bases. Nice drink menu. The service was attentive and super friendly without being overbearing. Will definitely go again.

Way too much $ for what we got... Line for bathrooms, average service, VERY casual atmosphere. The mac and cheese is a very small portion. Crab cake was good and a good size, but had a TON of dill (?!). Fried oysters were delicious. Raw oysters were also delicious but $4 each. Not recommended overall but maybe for a splurge.

We went here for an early dinner before a show at the Howard Theater. We enjoyed ourselves and the food we ate was pretty good, I just didn't think there was anything special about it and it wasn't great value for money. I think Derek Brown is supposed to be known for his cocktails, but I found the cocktail menu not all that interesting. The oysters were good, and I usually like beer with my oysters but I thought the beer menu was very limited - no hefeweizen/wheat beer options. The other food we had was the redneck laundry (caviar and potato chips) which was good, the "meat and foods half smoke" which was essentially a $17 hot dog with some potatoes, and the charred carrots, which again, was tasty, but was essentially just a well-cooked carrot (it was a side, and appeared to be equivalent to about one average sized carrot cut into a few pieces). So a weird review for me - I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, but didn't feel like I got great value for the nearly $150 we spent. I love oysters and think it would be fun and much better value to come for oyster happy hour.
