This restaurant, from renowned chef Ashley Christensen, is dedicated to the technique of cooking with wood fire. You can find a delicious wood-fired steak, of course; but much of the menu showcases the element of fire in more subtle ways. Don't miss dishes like roasted oysters with preserved lemon and chili butter; rabbit cotechino with embered kale relish, mustard frills, smoked rabbit jus; and luxurious pastas like the buttery agnolotti with grilled maitake, chèvre, lemon thyme.The space itself is sophisticated and sleek, and full of character. The building was established in 1907 and has formerly housed a funeral home and a bank (the restaurant's name is a hat tip to these former tenants).     Great food and service. Our server was very helpful picking out dishes and a wine we would enjoy. Caffe Luna catered our wedding reception 20 years ago and I’m glad to still see them in downtown Raleigh so many years later. Great locale for a celebration dinner.

    Bida Manda has always been a spot I’ve visited from time to time, but tonight’s experience genuinely surprised me in the best way! With the recent change in ownership, I’m not sure what’s changed behind the scenes, but the food tonight was absolutely bursting with flavor. Every bite was delicious, from the savory grilled beef to the rich, comforting curry noodle soup. Everything tasted so vibrant and well-seasoned! The service was just as memorable. Our waitress was incredibly sweet, attentive, and accommodating, especially with our toddler. Dining out with a little one can sometimes be a challenge, so that extra warmth and patience really made a difference. The ambiance was beautiful as always, with its warm lighting, cozy atmosphere, and inviting decor that makes it a great spot for a date night or dinner with family. I’ve been here several times before and always thought it was just okay, but tonight felt different. Between the flavorful food, wonderful service, and lovely atmosphere, this visit definitely changed my impression. I’m excited to come back and see what else is in store under the new ownership!
